What's Working for you? Naps, food etc.

Hello! Just wondering if any of you have some advice on anything that is going well. Example for me.

Naps- were horrible but now I put her down every 90 minutes of being awake, before she gets over tired. Going okay.

Feeding- I find 4-5 oz every 3 hours has pleased her.

Constipation- a q-tip with a little Vaseline touching her anus helps her poop after not pooping for 3 days (tmi?)

Now you go! About anything that is working! Lets feed off each other :)

  • Ooo I like the prune juice idea!

  • Naps- we are struggling with big time. His naps have been so irregular lately.

Feeding - 6oz every four hours starting around 6:30a. Last feeding is at 9p and he gets 8oz at that time. Not sure why or when we started the 8oz for the last feeding but it seems to work well for us.

Constipation - thermometer or the qtip seems to get things moving

  • Thank you @katielou711‌ I will try that! Loving seeing all the things that have been working. I thought of another one.
MOTN feedings- play The Beatles lightly on my phone. She loves it and drifts off quicker than without

We seemed to have naturally fallen into a sleep-eat-play and repeat pattern. When she wakes we feed her 6 oz (she is FF), then she will be awake for 1-2 hours for play, then nap and repeat. She averages 6 oz every 3-4 hours. At night we give her between 6-8 oz before she goes to bed, usually around 9pm. She will typically sleep until 6 or 7am. She starts getting fussy and rubs her eyes and flails her arms when she gets tired, so we've been following those cues for naps and bedtime. Constipation hadn't been a big issue here. We use Gerber Soothe and it has been working well.
  • Naps: I struggle and mostly end up holding him for naps on the weekends. I accomplish nothing and my house is a pigsty since I fired the housekeepers. However, he naps great for the nanny.

Food: breastfeeding here still, so 4 oz every 2.5 hrs or so.

Constipation: unheard of. He poops like 3-7 times a day. Sometimes it seems like too much poop, ya know?

Entertainment: I just got him an exersaucer this weekend since he has outgrown his baby gym. He can roll both ways now so when he's on the floor he needs wide open spaces and got mad getting stuck on the gym bars.

  • Great thread! I like reading what others say. Here's mine:

Sleeping: I put a heating pad on lowest setting in her PAC n play. She likes to cuddle up to the warmth (she's a belly sleeper) and helps with the transfer of being put down.

Playtime: entertainment provided for free by her toddler sister. She can always make my lil one smile.

Feeding- I give DD a drop of gas relief drop in the evening when she's gassiest.

Naps: He gets tired every 1.5-2 hours. If I hold him while he naps I get around 1-1.5 hours out of him. If he's in the swing or crib he sleeps between 30-45 min. So I try to do some of both each day to balance it out. I've been trying to do crib naps with one arm out of the swaddle but haven't had much success. His issue is not so much his Moro reflex, which seems to have calmed down. His problem is he starts rubbing his eyes, which makes him mad and wakes him up. I dread the day he roles and we lose the swaddle.

Eating: He eats every 3 hours during the day and 1-2 times MOTN. He used to only have one MOTN feeding but that changed when we moved him to his crib a week ago. He is EBF so I have no idea how much he eats at each feeding.

Entertainment: He loves Sophie. Everything goes in his mouth. He loves sticking his tongue through the holes in the oball. Also staring at the fish tank or the dogs playing. He still likes his play mat and rolling around trying to catch the mirror snail thing.

Constipation: No issues here. He poops at the same time every day after his 11:30 feeding.

Other: He has also been very clingy. He wants to be held or have my direct attention all of the time. Like @Sing2phins I am hoping it is just WWs and will pass soon! He used to be much more independent.

Question: How long are your LOs napping? I feel like his naps are getting shorter which is making me wonder if I should try less frequent but hopefully longer naps. It seems like he gets fussy in between when he only naps for 30 min or so.

Naps - I put her down religiously every 2 hours or sooner if I pick up on her cues earlier. Naps are 40 minutes tops but she sleeps decently at night so I'll take it. Still swaddling.

Feeding - BF when at home with her, and she's a snacker. I'd like to consolidate feedings somehow but she's not having it. While I'm at work she eats at least every 2 hours but never more than 4 oz at a time.

Entertainment - Recently I've been playing the Baby Einstein station on Pandora and doing some goofy singing/dancing around and she loves it. DH thinks it's pretty amusing too.

  • I appreciate this thread because it just now occurred to me that DS could be constipated, and now I have tricks.

Naps - he takes an hour long nap around 10am, and a 3-4 hour around 1pm. If these get screwed up he's up a few times at night. Obey the nap time.

Teething - Hylands Teething tablets have been working great. My baby has the temper of a thousand suns and these and a lot of singing turn nuclear meltdowns into meltdowns.

Entertainment - We swing him around a lot and play Superbaby. He also loves spinning in circles. Daredevil baby doesn't care for toys.
  • Naps - depending on when she wakes up, she takes a few 30 minutes naps and 1 2-4 hour nap during the day.  This only happens during the week.  She doesn't like naps when daddy is home. if she falls asleep on her own it's normally in the bouncy seat.  If I put her down it's normally the swing.

Eating is 5oz ff every 3 hours or so.  at night she gets a 6oz before bed.

Entertainment - loves her exersaucer and sitting in her bouncy seat with a toy.

  • I EBF so I have no ideas how much he gets, but N eats every 2 hours during the day and twice during the night.

Best thing I have done lately is set up a bedtime routine same time every night.
Bath, back to nursery, turn lights low, sound machine on with lullaby, dry off, diaper, lotion, PJs, bedtime prayers book in rocker until he gets fussy, swaddle, switch sound machine to ocean and off to bed no matter how long it takes.  At first it took a n hour and a half now we are down to 40 min and he has been sleeping through the night much better.
