White area on nipple

About 5 days ago LO had a bad night and wanted to stay latched all night. In the AM I was sore and bruised. It's been sore and hurts when he latches since then. Then 3 days ago I noticed a white spot on the tip of the same nipple, over what seems to be a duct. I thought it was a milk blister, so I followed Kelly Mom's advice. No change. There's no "head" to it. It's tender to touch on the white area as well at the side of the nipple along where the duct would follow. There's no lumps in my breast making me think it's clogged. It's just very sore and I don't know what's going on.

Re: White area on nipple

  • I have gotten blisters a lot over the last couple months and that sounds like exactly what I deal with. They always pop up if I co-sleep (I don't normally). I guess it's the angle and her latch isn't quite right. I usually have a small clog when they first appear but it clears up fast. I've always had to pop the blister though. I sterilize a needle with alcohol and just barely poke a hole. Hurts like hell for a few days though. Bruised feeling and burns especially the first couple minutes after she latches. It takes about two weeks to feel normal again every time. Give it time, it sucks but it'll get better!

  • Ok, so I've been following this advice. LO is nearly two and only nurses about 4 times per day. There has always been milk coming from the duct and I'm not getting anything hard out. Now I am getting random shooting pains in that boob in the same area. No redness, no lump. And the veins on the aeriola right below the shooting pains are sticking out. Help?
