Babies NEED a place to sleep, a way to eat, clothes, and diapers. The end. As we have learned for our friend over the pond...FTM's in England don't get showers. It's not a thing over there. So no..not a necessity.

Exactly. I'm a FTM and when it comes to what I NEED to have for my baby my thought is: Tits and a blanket.

Don't forget something for them to shit in!
Unless she's going to do that whole read the baby and take them to the toilet every 5 seconds thing.

  • You mean I chose to have a child and now you're expecting me to actually pay for the things they need MYSELF!?!

But how does that make any sense!?!

Oh yeah, because I'm a grown ass woman and a kid is a financial obligation that I and my spouse alone are responsible for! Duh!

I'm not quite sure who your referring to since
I have never stated that I had a problem providing for my child. I said I wanted the experience and was excited because I'm a ftm and I wanted to celebrate. All I asked for was proper etiquette. Not beg for gifts.

I believe that was directed more to the "all FTMs need a shower because babies need toomuch stuff" lady.
    Ok thanks

Yeah, not directed at you OP.

I totally failed to hit "quote" for the person I was actually referring to.

@smittysmiles‌ Actually I was reading all of the responses. And yes this is is my first post here. I don't have a issue with any of the answers I received. Why would I? I solicited them. Is it a problem with you that I'm new here?

No problem with folks who are new. I stand corrected and glad you came back to respond. Clearly I hit post too soon. It's not uncommon for people to post and run. Snark aside, since the invites were just sent out maybe ask your aunt how she wants to handle canceling. Since she was hosting, it should come from her but maybe she will have a creative way of still having it, whether that be by getting help from others or something else.

Its OK. I'm just coming over from baby center because of all the glitter shitters. I couldn't stand it. I need some snark in my life. I have heard that the bump was not very welcoming to newcomers this late in the board so i lurked a few days. Im still figuring this app out.
I was lightly considering having a meet and greet party but i don't think I'm going to feel comfortable with that many people around my baby at one time so soon. I will update when I decide on what to do. So far its looking pretty cancelled.

  • I understand wanting to share the happiness/experience with others. Nothing wrong with that at all :)
    I hope everything works out.
Regardless: you have tits, a blanket and hopefully, as @Pandadair pointed out, something for your baby to shit in. (I'm not sure why, but my brain went with a spittoon there...which would be gross/hilarious.) And a baby on the way. Not sure anyone is ever really ready for a kid. But we always manage.
  • @Aziebella, @sarahjanisse and anyone else who thinks that throwing yourself a shower is okay, I have a serious question. Do you honestly feel no shame in throwing yourself a gift-giving party?

My mom is hosting my shower from out of state. She planned and paid for everything and has kept me in the loop. While I have two girlfriends who offered to help her, one lives out of state and the other lives 40 minutes away from me and the restaurant where the shower will be held.

My mom and stepfather will be coming down the day before my shower with baby's furniture, cake, and whatever else my mom is bringing for the shower. She called me last weekend and told me that it's going to be too much for her to bring down centerpieces on top of all that since she wants flower arrangements, and would I mind going to a local florist and choosing/ordering them myself and using her credit card to pay for them. The florist is not even five minutes from my house so I said sure.

Honestly, I found it so awkward and uncomfortable to go in and sit down to design centerpieces and tell them it was for my own baby shower. I felt like they must think it's so sad that I'm doing it myself (even though I explained the mom/out-of-town situation). I really can't imagine planning my own shower and not feeling any shame in doing so.

  • Hahahahah glitter shitters.  OP, either you're an AE, or I like you.

    What's AE?
  • As I do agree with previous post, wait and receive full confirmation that your gm is canceling, as she can still host and get others to help decorate and set up as she will not be able to do so herself, before you go canceling all plans. And as for throwing your own baby shower, I'm Cuban and from Miami, and that's usually how we do things around here. It is not looked down on, at all!! It is usually co-ed, loud, and with plenty of food! But that's just us. We find any reason to celebrate and get together. I'm an event planner and own my own party rental business and will be in charge of setting all the rental equipment, food, decorating, music, and entertainment for my guest (which is 99% family and will be there to help set up). With that being said. If your family can help you out, I say go for it. Who cares if you threw the party yourself. I wouldnt listen to much to all these online etiquette snobs. Their not going to be there, So who cares! Lol. Best of luck!

    What's AE?

    .

    AE = Alter Ego

Are you Beyonce?! Ladies! B is in our BMB!!

Lmao!! I wish I was Beyonce!
  • I agree, OP you can stay :) I'm sorry about all of the drama with your shower. I can understand being disappointed. You were being thrown a shower to celebrate, and now it's just falling apart. I hope your GM can figure out a way to make it work, or you have someone step up and host it.

    Oh, and welcome to M14!

    Thanks
  • Ok ladies, lets not get our panties in a bunch. I said "online" not specifically on here. As in don't go off of what you read online. But if the shoe fits.... hey. And I am a party planner and own my own business and by rental equipment I meant tables, chairs, and bounce house, if you must know! And the op can do as she wishes. Obviously she is down about her situation, lets not make this about ourselves.
  • Because it had to do with what the op was questioning to begin with. So, no she should not cancel, you FT!
  • The new must have feature of a baby shower... BOUNCY HOUSE!

Gawd, you're all just jealous because you're not getting a bouncy house at your shower.
Shit, I knew my shower was missing something with DD1! Guess I'll just need to throw myself a shower for DD2 now, so I can get the full experience, bouncy house and all!

Don't forget that the only way to show each and every kid that you love him/her is to celebrate the impending birth with a shower and gifts. I mean, obviously.
  • You do realise that nobody actually needs a baby shower? If you don't have one, it's not the end of the world. Just throwing that out there.

    (I'm not having a shower)

I vote AE - way too quick on uptake of using the @so-and-so.

Either way, thank you for making my day with the colourful and sparkly imagery @nolo0514. I am now expecting this to be an ongoing theme each time you post :) Welcome to M14

The fuck is FT? You also seem fairly new here, now may be your time to exit dramatically. We won't mind, it's been a while since we've had a good GBCB. OP is welcome to stay though, she's on the level. You though, just NO.
I have no idea what it actually means.  I've decided it means "fucktwit" because that seems like a fun new word that could be applied to lots of shit on TB.

Also, a fucking Bouncy House at a baby shower?  Nothing says fun like a woman 8 months pregnant in a bouncy house.  God the visual is frightening.
If she's a party planner and thinks a bouncy house is an appropriate thing for a baby shower, she's really not very good at her job.

Also, I feel like a bouncy house at the moment.

I can't even picture getting into it!

No. I'm actually new here. After the first 2 comments back I made and I realized it wasn't going to the direct person I was talking to I just tried the quote button. Its not that different from how I had to respond on baby center.

Ha ha its OK. Ask hole had me cracking up
  • Oh come on, you all know you're disappointed you didn't host your own shower, hire a party planner, and have a bouncy house.

  • I took DS to a bounce house a couple of weeks ago. I had to get in to get him to play. That was really fun. Now I feel like the shower I had in which my aunt rented a hall and had finger foods and cake was lame. Who knew I needed a bounce house?? Or fancy decorations for that matter!

    Bouncy houses are the shiz.

I would be like that puppy who can't get out of the bowl. Haha.
