Home/Birth Center/Med-free Hospital Birth Check-In

BridenamedMeg is busy with her new, littlest little, so I'm starting this!

How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern?

Anything else you want to talk about?

And of course, most exciting of all: if you've had your little one/s, how did it go? Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Home/Birth Center/Med-free Hospital Birth Check-In

  • @scooter028, CAN you push back against the induction date at all? That only brings you to 41 weeks, right? If you're not comfortable with that I think it's totally reasonable to fight for 42. HUGS.

  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby? 38w 4d team ding dong

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have? Med free hospital but I will take any at this point!!!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? Pre labor this time around is worse than actual labor the last 2 times :(

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern? Worried about LO turning back from sunny side up. Going to ask about flipping LO around today at my appointment.

Anything else you want to talk about? This has been a rough 9 months. Between morning sickness, blood clot, now pre-e I feel like LO and I are always being poked or prodded and we are both stressed out! And I love Golden Graham's <3
  • @proudmommy030614, from what I understand, many posterior babies move during labor itself. My LO switches from posterior to sideways at best, so I was anxious about this too, and again my amazing midwives talked me down.

There are positions to take during labor that encourage LO to turn, too, like hands-and-knees.

  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?
39 weeks (due March 23rd), girl

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?
    Planning on med-free hospital

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
I've been rereading books with coping strategies and feel ready for my little girl but right now she seems to have other plans!  I am glad that our doula will be there to remind us of things to try during labor.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern?
My spring break due date has wreaked havoc on our support personnel for this birth which has been stressing me out.  Our NILMDTS photographer, OB, and priest are all taking vacations at scattered times and unless Caroline comes very late, someone will not be there for her birth.  Luckily we have substitutes lined up but ideally we'd like them all there.

Anything else you want to talk about?
Just that I am excited to meet my daughter soon!  It will simultaneously be the most joyous and the most difficult thing that I have ever done.

@bennieangel I am fighting for the 42 weeks and feel mixed about it. Everyone else does 10 days.... I know its the increased stillborn risk but from what I've read and doc's I've talked to, the BPP every 3 days is supposed to negate that extra risk. Then I think, hell if I am going to be induced Friday, lets get this show on the road on WEdnesday? Is that selfish?
I had my 2nd (my 1st vbac) at 42 weeks. Lots of my friends had babies between 42-43 weeks.  Never a bad outcome :)

How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?
Boy - 8 days old (born at 41w3d)

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?
Home water birth - 2nd VBAC

And of course, most exciting of all: if you've had your little one/s, how did it go? Inquiring minds want to know!

I went into labor the day before I actually gave birth. Early labor was awful.  It lasted 30 hours.  All because he was in a really odd position and didn't drop into my pelvis correctly.  Finally, around hour 30, I had an insane contraction that felt like my pelvis shattered. And contractions went from every 5/15/20/55 minutes apart to 5 minutes apart.  They didn't let up when I got in the bath either.  I knew it was the real deal.  (He moved into the right position)

Baby was born 2 hours later, and I barely pushed! My body did all the work.  It was awesome :)
(my midwife made it with about 20 minutes to spare.  her assistant was thankfully able to make it before her because she lives closer.  my photographer made it with 7 minutes to spare!)

  • Yes, thanks for this thread! We need more positive and non-newborn-related posts around here!

How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?
    39+5, girl

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?
    med-free hospital

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
I've been walking and doing squats (well, ok, squatting while weeding and working on the landscaping).

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern?
I had my 40-week appointment today, and I'm not progressing towards labor at all. The OB did say that he sees this all the time, especially for FTMs, and that he will let me go to 42 weeks before inducing. I'm waiting as patiently as I can, but I hope my baby decides it's time soon!

Anything else you want to talk about?
I scrubbed the washing machine today. Does that mean I'm nesting, or does that just mean that my mom is visiting in a week? :)
  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?
    - would have been 40 weeks yesterday, instead, have a 6 day old boy

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?
    - Planned on med-free hospital - had induction with pitocin, med free delivery, including episiotomy

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
    - I was so ready for baby. Things are going well with him. I'm glad DH actually has the time to spend with us this time around

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern?
    - not overly excited or worried about anything.
Annoyed about MIL throwing a fit on the day I gave birth. She really pissed DH off and didn't even come to the hospital. She was a total bitch.
Now she keeps telling me that I will NEED time without DS1 to concentrate on DS2 when DH returns to work.
Yes, I'd like time, but how about you not make it sound like I'm inept?!?!

Anything else you want to talk about?
    - I'm excited that I've lost most of the weight I gained this pregnancy.
But it is now really obvious that each pregnancy is different.
My first pregnancy I gained a lot of weight and took a short time to fit into early pregnancy clothes.
My second, I gained average weight and it took forever...in fact, I still wasn't into early pregnancy clothes when I got pregnant with this one.
This time, I'm looking at this fabulous dress I bought years ago, thinking I may actually fit into it again soon. :D
  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? 41 and change, team blue

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have? Med free hospital with OB, though we might not get that now....

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? We're done. Any time now, baby.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern? We have an induction date for Next Thursday.  I am still hoping for this to start on its own and avoid the potential use of any drugs, but I'm worried that at this point it may not happen. My doctor, who is on board with the med free birth, wants to starts with the Foley bulb if we do need to induce, but I'm afraid that it won't be enough and then I'll get the intervention filled birth I don't want - pitocin, elevated pain, being tied to an IV pole, and ultimately a c-section because I won't be able to move enough to get labor going along on its own. In the meantime, I'm trying every play in the book for Operation: Baby Eviction except castor oil. That's just gross.

Anything else you want to talk about? No, the rant above about covered it!

  • @miliska Thanks for the good induction story!  We don't get a lot of those on this board.

  • @kaking78 My pleasure. I was really scared to be induced, but my body reacted very well to the hormones I was given with the IV. I must admit I was really lucky though, and the support of my midwife and DH definitively really helped be go through the ridiculously intense contractions and the pushing (only 3 pushes!!).
  • Thanks for posting the check in @pepperedmoth!

How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?  Lydia is 3 days old and was born at 39 weeks, 2 days.

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?  We planned for a homebirth, ended up with a transfer to the hospital, but I was still able to go med free...didn't really have much of a choice!!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?  I think we were about as prepared as we could have been for the birth.  The only things I would change would being a bit more prepared for the transfer itself.  We had only been to the hospital once before, the day I went into labor, but we were driving from a different direction so we really didn't know how to get there and if we'd been much longer finding the hospital she would have been born in the car.

And of course, most exciting of all: if you've had your little one/s, how did it go?Inquiring minds want to know!
Even though it was a very tough half hour in the car I'm glad we were still able to go med free despite everything.  One the way in though I was thinking about the epi...I wanted it and couldn't wait to get it - as things got harder a c-section under general also sounded VERY tempting!  Definitely thoughts you have in transition, but I didn't recognize it until after.

  • I am hoping that if I make it to my induction on Thursday that all I will need is my water broke and not the drugs. My doctor said that as long as my cervix is favorable we will go this route. Fingers crossed!
  • I would like to share that if I go post-dates I would not be induced until April 7.

    April. 7.

I am really happy that they are not induction-happy but AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have? Med free, hospital

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I keep finding new things that I should get done. It's almost like I think that she's waiting for me to finish everything before she comes, so I'm trying to get it allll done and leave nothing unfinished. (I even had a bunch of material that I bought for burp cloths that I had to get out and prep so that they'd be done for her).

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? I'm kind of in limbo right now. I don't know that I'm really ready for her. It's been almost a decade since my last birth and newborn and I just feel like I don't know what ime doing anymore. If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern? Trying to make sure I have everything done and together so I can at least FEEL ready.

Anything else you want to talk about? Nope :)
  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?I have a 6 day old outside baby boy!
What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?Planned a homebirth, ended up going to the hospital.
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?My bottom hurts. :)
Anything else you want to talk about? What natural infant and postpartum care are you doing? Herbal sitzbath? Natural drying herbs for the umbilical cord?
And of course, most exciting of all: if you've had your little one/s, how did it go?Inquiring minds want to know! Here's a link to my super long and detailed birth story: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12296673/from-home-to-the-hospital-an-extended-birth-story#latest
  • I would like to share that if I go post-dates I would not be induced until April 7. April. 7. I am really happy that they are not induction-happy but AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They'll let me go 3 weeks overdue (if I'm OK with that... um... we'll see) - which would be April 18th - April 22nd (18th is 3 weeks after the due date we're going by, April 22nd is 3 weeks after the latest possible due date).

    I'd rather not.

How far along are you? 39 weeks and a couple days. See siggy.
    Boy or girl? Boy

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have? Planning home birth

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? Mostly good, but I slacked on lining up Rhogam (I'm RH-) for after birth. So if I don't get something set up I'll have to go to the hospital to get it if I need it... and the anxiety of that all sucks.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? The above a bit. Also, I'm due on my mom's birthday, so baby can't come that day. And my mother is pushy and wants to know when I'm in labor and probably pop up, so I have to avoid calling her and then hear about that forever after. Ugh. She's already pissy that I talked to a friend about watching DS while I'm in labor instead of going to her.

Anything else you want to talk about? Nope.

  • I've never posted here, because to be honest, I'd love to have a med free birth, but I'm a FTM and really don't know what I'm getting myself into. But I've read here a bunch and gotten inspiration. I also really need to post lately so thought I'd hop in!

How far along are you? 39 weeks today.

    Boy or girl? Girl

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have? Medfree hospital with OB. Seems like the office and the hospital are very med-free friendly.

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I feel like I'm as prepped as I can be. If I keep trying to prep, I think I'll overdue it and drive myself crazy. I've read a couple books, scoured online resources, have an arsenal of tools in my brain (that maybe I should write down so I don't forget), and talked to DH about what I want and how he can help.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? I'm only worried about something going wrong with me or LO. I'm totally okay with doing whatever needs to be done to get LO out and keep LO and me healthy, but it's the things I can't really control that freak me out.

Anything else you want to talk about? I just don't want to go back to work this week. I can manage pretty ok when not working, but I just can't stand being at my job anymore.

  • How far along are you? Boy or girl? If you've given birth, how old is your baby?
I am 39w3d today. We are team green.

What kind of birth are you planning/Did you have?
We are planning a med-free birth center birth.

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Everything on my checklist is done. All we need is a baby.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? If you're worried, what are you doing to work through that concern? I am mostly excited but I did have a pre-e scare last week. I am monitoring my BP and changed my diet/activity to keep the symptoms away. I am hoping this stay normal so we can continue with our birth center plans.

  • I just noticed there is a natural birth board! Where have I been for the past how many months?
I love there natural birth board. The ladies there are amazing. A lot less activity but the quality is great.
  • Jt7dreamz said:

Update: I made it to 9 cm but the baby isn't moving down. The doc thinks I'll have to have a c section because of her head. I am so proud I made it to transition with no epi. I actually got an epi to see if she can be birthed naturally vs a section. If I fully dilate and she moves her head it might be possible. Still unlikely.

Good luck! We're all rooting for you, and either way you'll have your precious girl soon!!
