Sick babies

How many times has your LO been sick?

What is your childcare arrangement? DC, nanny, other family member, or you and/or Your SO?

We had to pick up A from daycare this afternoon. He has pink eye and his fourth cold since I went back to work less than 2 months ago.

I know babies catch everything and they come down with a lot of illnesses their first year. I'm just wondering if this is excessive and feeling like my poor little guy really needs a break.

Re: Sick babies

  • Poor baby. Four colds does seem like a lot for 2 months, but don't forget our LOs have started day care during the height of the cold and flu season. Is A at a large day care center? A coworker has a child at large center and her almost 1 year old has been sick as many times.

E is just getting over his first illness. I was surprised at how high the bar is for illness keeping a child home at his small in-home day care. The provider was fine with his wet cough as long he didn't have an uncontrolled fever. We had the option of keeping him home, so we did.

My guy is still home with me and has had 3 sick visits at the Dr since December. I do have 2 other children who are in school so I blame that. His congestion seems permanent.
  • Evie hasn't caught her first cold (knock on wood). We are very fortunate in our daycare situation. We have family members come to our house Monday thru Wednesday. Thursday & Friday she goes to my moms. She has very little exposure to other kids.
I hope everyone's baby's get to feeling better very fast!
  • DD2 just got sick for the first time starting on Sunday. She's 4 1/2 months. Both my girls stay home w DH during the day, so minimal exposure to other kids. I actually think they picked up this bug at the pedi's office.

My coworkers' kids who go to daycare are always sick.

  • SO stays with LO most of the time. She does go to another inhome care provider twice a week for two hours. She hasn't been sick yet, knock on wood. I do work in a school with children, but I change clothes when I get home. I don't shower though. So she is exposed to the germs through me.

  • Layla is currently dealing with her first cold now. She is congested and has a little cough. Tim and I are both congested and have a cough as well so I'm not exactly sure who brought it into the house. One of my dogs even has a little kennel cough despite vaccinations.... Its noisy around here lol.

  • He had a very very small cold that lasted like three days because DD had gotten sick. Me and DH are the childcare arrangement since I SAH while he is at work.

So far he has not caught much but  I think it is because he is not in daycare and we just started putting him in the nursery at church last week. 95% of the time DD gets sick is because she caught it from a kid at church so I am sure the same will happen for DS.

  • DS has been in daycare since January and he has been sick on and off ever since. The colds aren't too bad, because they usually don't bother him much.

That fucking stomach virus was the worst. We stayed home with him for 3 days, until his poop was solid again. But his bowels didn't fully recover until this week, making the whole ordeal two weeks long. Not to mention the raw-skin diaper rash. A combo of bag balm + extra strength butt paste (and probiotics to ease up the pooping) finally cleared things up.

God sorry, I'm still pissed about that stomach virus. /rant

  • Thanks for all the replies ladies. @CFox815, I'm sorry C started coming down with something. I would wait and see since you have the pedi appointment Monday.

What seems to help to some degree is putting the humidifier right at the edge of his crib so he's directly under it. We put a few drops of peppermint oil in with the water. On nights when he's been terribly congested I have let him sleep in the carseat so he was elevated. I slept right next to him to make sure he was okay.

I hope all the babies are feeling better soon.

I am so tempted to pull him from daycare and hire a nanny. But he does really seem to love his teachers. And my Mom assured me that if he doesn't get exposed to all the germs now, he'll get sick just as frequently later on when he is in a pre-school setting.

This. As much as it sucks when they get sick, the positive is that it helps build up their immune system.

So far only once and that's enough for me... Isaac had RSV and bronchiolitis..

What is your childcare arrangement? DC, nanny, other family member, or you and/or Your SO?
Isaac goes to day care 3 days a week and my mom watches him two days a week.  I texted his teacher to touch base this morning and the infant room next to him has a chicken pox outbreak.  SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?! This is the last thing I want to deal with after our lovely hospital stay

  • @klongoria11‌ Poor Cadence. I hope the new antibiotic takes care of things and she's feeling better soon.
That's horrible the little guy in her class is so sick all the time. How can his Mom just not answer their calls? I can't imagine!

@katie.725 I'm glad Isaac is better. Chicken pox in an infant room is scary stuff.
