3rd Trimester

Induced

I'm being induced Friday cause of my blood pressure although I'm happy to meet baby as soon as I'm nervous that it's not going to work and I'll end up with a c section which is something i really don't want. I just hope it works first time with no complications. Feeling nervous

Re: Induced

  • Hope it all goes well! I have blood pressure problems also, I'm on bedrest right now because I'm only 35 weeks and I'm hoping I can make it to 38 weeks. How many weeks are you?

I'm 39 weeks and 2 days have they put you on medication?
  • Yeah, labetalol. They up'd the dose too but my BP is still high :(
  • That's the same medication I'm on, it's still on the high side that's why they're going to start me off tomorrow. Totally gutted my birth plan has gone out the window but they know best is how I'm looking at it. So nervous now though I just hope it works and doesn't drag on. 8 hours that's pretty good that would be lovely
  • I've been induced twice and not need a c-section at all. It just depends on how your body reacts to the indcuction. Best of luck to you!

  • I was induced with DS due to chronic hypertension. I needed a cervical ripener the night before the induction started, but everything went smoothly.

Epidurals are not statistically shown to lead to C-sections. If you want one, get it when the pain is more than you can manage. My epidural anecdote: I got it at 4cm, and after getting it I dilated very rapidly and was complete within 4 hours. My best friend was induced with her second; she got the epidural before the pitocin was even started. She felt one contraction and labor was five hours. Next time, I'll get the epidural first.
  • I was induced last pregnancy and had a vaginal delivery.  Good luck on Friday.

  • I was induced and had a vaginal delivery. I too was very worried about needing a c-section, especially as my induction started with 24 hours of cervical ripeners before the pitocin was started. Get the epidural when you want to, as it will keep you more relaxed and that is more important to labor progressing. I waited until the pain became more than I wanted to deal with. I labored without pain meds for about 3 hours before getting one - no idea how dilated I was when I got it because I chose it solely based on pain level. Its very tough to labor when induced without any pain management as it's tough to be able to move around/get comfortable since you're hooked up to an IV. You can't walk the halls or really get out of bed.

    Good luck!

  • Well been in hospital for 24 hours and going to be checked in an hour nervous my cervix hasn't dilated but we will know more in an hour been in pain but will see how it goes. Feeling anxious
  • Good luck!  I was induced with DD for hypertension. I was on labetalol, which helped but not enough.  It took 3 days of gel for them to be able to break my water.  They started me on pitocen a few hours later and she came quickly after that.  I was planning to have an epidural, but a shot of pain killer (nubain) worked for me and she came too fast for me to get to the point where I needed the epi.

Hopefully everything goes well for you!
