My LO has these horrible screaming jags and the only thing that will get him to chill out is to put him in the Bjorn and wear him. He INSTANTLY calms down the minute he is in the Bjorn. The obvious answer is...he wants to be close to you/he wants to be held. But simply holding him closer will not calm him down. He has to be worn. Anybody know the reason for this?
EDIT: Also, obviously this situation may be unique to my little one, but I have heard of other babies being calmed by baby wearing but not by being held.
Re: Does anybody know why baby wearing calms LO down when holding him does not?
@Ziggy903 -perhaps. I've tried to recreate the hold with just my hands to no avail. Oh well, breaking out the Bjorn is a very small price to pay for peace and quiet.
@Junebugz1: good theory. never thought of this. He HATES being swaddled, but maybe the Bjorn provides him with a type of restriction he likes.
I wear DS everyday from 5-7 pm. It helps a ton with the witching hour.
Mom to Lily and Colin!
Everybody's LO is unique, but for my baby the carrier immediately calms him 85-90% of the time. The remainder of the time, he calms down if I make dramatic movements with him in the carrier....I will strap him in and if he doesn't calm down I will march in place, do squats and even lunges for 5-10 minutes. He loves it and calms down and I get a mini workout!. Then I just walk around the house and move about as normal. On the very rare occasion that my mini workout does not calm him down, it has always been because he was hungry or had a wet/dirty diaper and I just didn't realize it. Once I feed or change him and put him back in the carrier he falls fast asleep.
