clearance stock ups

Are you ladies hitting sales buying sizes for next winter for LO?

We have a huge consignment sale in April near by and I'm not sure if i should by winter stuff or not. I'd hate to spend the money and him outgrow it before he can wear it.

  • You actually might not find much winter stuff at an April sale. Typically they have mostly stuff for the coming season so you will probably find mostly summer clothes. At least that has been what I have seen around me.

I usually try to find clothes in the next size up for DD (3), but she is in each size for probably a year so it doesn't matter what season it is. I also buy anything in a much larger size if it is something that would last over multiple seasons and is cheap enough. When she was a baby she was tiny and didn't gain weight very quickly so she wore all of her clothes forever and ended up with summer and winter stuff in nearly every size.

I started to keep a spreadsheet of what I had in what sizes so that I wouldn't have way too many of one thing. Having a list of stuff to look for was really helpful for me.

I'm a list maker! I'm totally doing that!

Thank you ladies for your input!

  • Kohls has an AWESOME return policy. You can return at any time, even with no receipt (although you'll get less money most likely if no receipt). I've been stocking up there on great clearance deals. Some that I am not sure of sizing, I keep in a separate bag so I can potentially return.
  • Since my 8w-old is now in 9m clothes (he's crazy long, mostly torso), I know better than to try to predict sizes. It's a risky game.

I failed miserably at buying ahead for DS1, my summer baby. Luckily DS2 is a winter baby so he's able to wear everything DS skipped over so far.

  • I have always done this :) I'm cheap no shame here :) and for the most part it has always worked out. I got this LO set for fall/winter for 57 bucks!! All name brand stuff to :) our local consignment does these crazy sale days they had all the boy stuff one day down to a 1.00 an item then I had a 70% off so it was .30 freaking cents for the stuff! I got the cutest gap sweater and grey wool pants for thanksgiving or Xmas outfit. I got mostly 12 months some 9 and some 18 month :)
  • The only thing I fail at is shoes size! Some years my kids feet skip sizes all together. Boots I usually guess ok on thou. :)
