GTKY-love at first sight

Did you fall in love at first sight with dh?

Dh and I were friends in highschool (I was dating a friend of his) he was 2 years older and once graduated I didn't see him again until I graduated college. We re-met one night at a local bar and within 4 hrs we did the deed.

But I won't lie it wasn't love at first sight. He DOES not drink and I love to drink so that was weird (we met at a bar, he took 1 shot of tequila and was all girly drink), he also worked out every day and ate healthy, i on the other hand was still a college slob. He was just so rigid, but man did he have abs!! But within 2 weeks of constant hanging out I was hooked. We eloped on our 1 month anniversary and have been married and happy for almost 5 years.

So I ask again. Was it instant love with you and dh, or did it take some persuasion?

  • Uh I don't know. The image of when I first saw him is burned into memory but I was way too cautious and him too jaded.

  • For me- no. I was engaged to someone else when we met. DH didn't even register for me. My Ex and I broke up like 2 yrs later and I asked DH on a date just to "get back on the dating horse." I didn't realize I hit the jackpot til we were dating like 2-3 months.

DH knew he wanted to date me the moment he met me. He still tells me how jealous he was that I was with someone else. He says he knew he wanted to marry me immediately after we started dating.

Noooo. He was into me but I swore up and down that I was not going to date him, or anyone at that point in my life. I had just graduated college, was trying to figure out what I was going to do, and I didn't want to feel tied down to the area I was living. I guess he was just persistent :D

  • I though dh was hot back when we meet as summer camp counselors, he says he was "interested" whatever the heck that means.

We dated during summer, did the long distance thing, broke up, then two years later he invited me to visit. I flew over on the Friday then he proposed on the Monday :-)
  • Noooooppee. Funny, we were just reminiscing about this two nights ago Lolz. I believe my exact words as I practically sprinted to my car were, "I am never going to see that guy again!" Our first meeting was super awkward. But I guess he felt differently and kept perusing me. I'm so glad that he did! :x
  • Nope. That has happened to me though. It ended up being a self destructive relationship.

  • Not really. When I was stationed at Fort Bragg he was the first person in my unit that I met. He took me around helping me inprocess (it was actually valentines day!) but we were both dating other people at the time so didn't really think anything of it. Then a couple weeks after I got there he asked me over to a party at his place and we ended up DTD.....oops. He says he had already broken up with the girl he was seeing but who knows. I was dating a guy from my previoua duty station but it was going nowhere. Needless to say, DH and I have been inseparable ever since. He says he liked me right away and was just looking for the right moment to make his move haha, I was definitely a little more hesitant because the guy I was with at the time really broke my heart and messed with my head, but DH made it all better. Awww I just love him! Lol

  • Nope. We were 16 when we met and he thought I was cute and I thought he was annoying, haha. We were friends with the same group of people so we hung out a few times during the next couple years. Then he went away to college and when he came back for the summer he had changed a lot and really caught my eye. It still took some time before we ever dated though.
  • I would say yes for both of us. We met on a dating website, but I had only joined as a joke with a guy friend and hadn't intended on meeting anyone until he messaged me. We talked online and on the phone for probably a month and a half before meeting IRL. My friends were scared shitless he was some crazy so we met at the local Walmart. Classy right? :) We talked for a long time and he spent the night at my place (both fully clothed on top of the covers...awkward!) We started dating about 2 weeks later and have been together for 9 years, married for almost 6. Ironically DH hates the guy who I joined the website with, but I keep telling him we wouldn't have met if it weren't for him.

  • No for either of us. We were force set up by mutual friends, it was super awkward and we hated that. However we found a mutual love of video games and had a few group game nights that turned into me asking him out.

  • It wans't love at first sight but there was a major connection the moment I saw him. After our first day I knew I'd met someone who was going to be a huge part of my life. I was hesitant to say he was "the one" so quickly, but I think I knew deep down. After about 3 months of dating we both knew & were talking about marriage
  • I would say yes even though we were both dating other people at the time. He said he thought about me a lot after we met and I did the same. We were only 16 at the time. We ended up together and have been married almost 10 years now.

  • I would say there was a definite connection at first sight. I was actually on a "break" with my HS sweetheart of 3.5 years & the minute I saw/talked to DH I just knew I needed to break it off for good with my bf. We went out on a few amazing dates and he asked me to be his gf 4x before I said yes! I'm so glad he was persistent. We've been together almost 7 years, married for almost 3. :)

  • Side eyes for eloping at 1 month, girl!

DH and I met in HS. I crushed on him, he dated my BFF at the time, I cut them out of my life, two years later we reconnected and sparkly flew.

  • I wouldn't say "love" at first sight, but I definitely was intrigued.

I was on vacation visiting a guy friend that was in the Marines, and DH was a buddy of his that came to a party we were at. I had finally ripped myself out of a year and a half long toxic relationship and told myself that I was NOT looking for anything but me time.  He had a girlfriend at the time.  Something about him caught my attention, and I found myself thinking about him after I had left.

DH says the same thing about me.  His relationship wasn't serious, and they were on the verge of breaking up (they did break up a few days after I left).  He says that there was just something about me that he couldn't get out of his head.

Two weeks later, my friend from there called me, and they were all together.  I couldn't hear my friend so I told him to borrow DH's phone (so I would have the number.)  A week or so later, I texted DH acting like I didn't know why that number was on my phone. DH later revealed to me that he had saved my number to do the same thing but hadn't worked up the nerve.

It isn't like we only knew eachother a month. Best friends in highschool. Didn't see eachother for 4 years and then re-met? When you know you know!

  • Dh and I had a one night stand during a college party... So love at first sight, no. But he was hot and I was a slutty college girl.

We ended up having a class across the hall from one another and started dating. It wasn't long into our relationship that I knew he was the one I wanted to spend my life with.

  • Not really. DH is 4 years older than me, but from the same small town. I had actually never met him (moved to that school my freshman year after he graduated) and we were at the same party when I was a Senior. He was known as the "hot Jock" in town and was playing baseball in college. He was only home for homecoming weekend. He kissed me that night and gave me his number. But, I knew my parents would be totally against me ever going to visit him and I figured he was just a player, so I never called him. Fast forward to the next year, I was in college, he was in college in a different town and we were both at a bar after the bedlam game. He saw me, came up to me and we started talking. He kissed me again that night and told me he wanted my number, since I was obviously not good at returning calls. That was 1 day after my 19th birthday and I am 32 now!!

Funny coincidence... I kept the paper that he wrote his number down on that first time when I was a senior because I thought he was probably the hottest guy I would ever get to kiss!

  • @hartsl01‌ lol at slutty college girl!

It was for my husband but not for me.  I was trying to get into the airforce at the time and had no intentions of staying around. I was in party all the time mode when we met.  I told my girlfriends that he was "a stage 5" and blew him off for awhile.  It was almost a year later when I got my head out of my ass and I sent him a facebook message (I know I know) to apologize to him for my behavior, let him know that I thought he was a great person and that I felt I had really screwed up.  Being the great person he is, he forgave me and we have been together ever since... Turns out he was the real deal and I was just scared of it :)

Edited bc I forgot to mention that I couldn't imagine how my life would be if he wasn't in it <3

  • DH and I met in high school. I was definitely more into him then he was into me. He asked me to prom and then asked another girl to prom. He went with her and I ended going with some guy.

After prom we hung out with the same people but didn't talk.

We graduated and moved away for college. Then after college we both moved back home. He asked me out multiple times before I finally caved. After our first date we were inseparable.
