  I haven't posted here in ages (long before my son was born), but I am unable to sleep tonight so I thought I'd catch up. As a "Newfie" I think it's hilarious that other Canadians think they don't have an accent. Here in Newfoundland anyone that doesn't sound like us must be a "mainlander". With that being said, I totally agree that a lot of Newfoundlanders sound ridiculous. Just watching cold water cowboys embarrasses me on a regular basis, but like Southerners I think it is what makes us unique not stupid.

  However, not one of us said that Newfies were stupid my ex was actually a Newfie and he was anything but stupid.
  
  I totally get the 'mainlander' thing though. To you guys, we must sound very different!

  Oh no I wasn't thinking anyone said we were stupid. I was just comparing it to what people were saying about those with a southern accent. I think a lot of people hear the the thick (from the bay) accent of a Newfie and automatically think their stupid. I can totally be guilty of watching tv and after hearing some people I shake my head and think "and that's why people think what they do about us. It's kind of ridiculous that they feel the need to put us in shows with subtitles, I guess that's the true definition of an accent. Despite all of that I am super proud to be a Newfoundlander, I think we are an extremely unique and awesome group of people (if I do say so myself).
