Success after IF

pelvic rest & the big O

Do you know if pelvic rest refers to intercourse or any "activity" in general?

I had a naughty dream last night that had a very happy ending and although I can't really control my dreams, I wonder if this was breaking the pelvic rest rules.  'Cause I sure wouldn't mind another one!

Thanks for your insight, girls!

Re: pelvic rest & the big O

  • I've been told pelvic rest means no big O, but that said you can't control ones in your dreams.  I have had several in my dreams and that really can't be helped.  I had cramping after each of those (especially in the first trimester and before 20 wks).  I had a bleeding episode after one of these, but I'm not sure it was related to that or a low lying placenta.

So I tried to watch plain tv for awhile - you know no movies with people kissing/making out.  I watched 'house hunters' or other HGTV shows before bedtime.  Ha!

That is so not what I wanted to hear.  I didn't expect pregnancy friskiness, but here I am and I wanna get some.  Funny you should mention cramping - I have been cramping this morning too.  Crap crap crap.

  • I had that bleeding at 11w3d, so pretty early on.

The good news is that after a certain point, I think I had one in my sleep and it didn't affect me.  I think after 20 wks.  After that, I started watching anything on tv, etc.  :)

It's something you can't help and if you don't get any cramping - enjoy it!  Not everyone gets those in the sleep.  I only get them while I'm pregnant I guess.

If you do get cramping, it does go away - not sure it affects anything at all.  My cramping only lasted the morning after and it didn't occur in the middle 2nd trimester when I had this (so after a certain point I didn't have cramping and felt OK to have this).  Hopefully you will be off pelvic rest soon - I know the placenta moves up for most people pretty soon.

  • I was on pelvic rest in the first tri, and beginning of the second.  I had several fantastic dreams, and asked my doc about Os.  She said you can't control them, and not to worry.  She also said to ask her anytime I had questions like that.  I'd probably ask your doctor at your next appointment.  And until then, try not to worry because you can't do anything about them :)
  • Ditto JGirl, I avoid if within my control but you can't help the ones in your sleep. I also avoid watching anything "frisky" on TV (my pelvic rest is self imposed though, not imposed by my doctor).
