I'm glad we could talk this out. I was an only child for 7 years and 2 days. Now I'm the oldest of 5. 5 very different people. We push each others buttons, and of course there are fights. I'll admit I used to cry every time mom sat me down and "had to tell me something". And we call my 18 year old sister "the planned one", but I've really enjoyed growing up with my parents, who had me fairly young, and being able to watch my siblings grow up. I also have 4 parents.
Our mother's time was always spread thin, and not just because she had 5 kids, but because she had 5 kids, and her own identity, which included running her own business. We never went without our needs being met. Not once. But then again I was brought up in a 6 figure (on a bad day) household. Nothing was ever perfect though, and I'm not quite sure what a "perfect" parent-child relationship is, but I love my crazy beautiful life, and I know it wouldn't be the same without my siblings.
@awc1986 I didn't recognize you at first, you took your pic out of your siggy!
My UO: Whenever I see a generic avatar/siggy I assume you are a newb. If you want people to remember who you are put some effort into it and personalize it a bit. You don't have to put your name and phone number in it but don't go complaining about not being let into the facebook group because nobody knows you. You made your bed.
Ditto this. I am also guilty of assuming newb or lurker when I see a generic avatar. But @awc1986 is an exception. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a Bump crush on her.
I used to get @awc1986 & @awknyc confused all the time. But it has finally ingrained itself into my brain that awc is the English one.

oh me too...I was just sad that she took her beauty wedding pic out and that I almost didn't recognize her.
Unless they ask you to you should give ladies who have had their babies a chance to post in the labor announcement thread instead of doing it for them to collect love tits.
^^^THIS. Stealing a mother's thunder instead of letting her AW her own labor, birth, and adorable squishy baby makes you a W. (That would be an AW without the A. That's right, a big fat W.)
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
My UO is that I don't mind when older women (assuming they have the body for it) wear clothes meant for younger women. I saw a 50ish woman in the elevator today in cute leggings and a top. She looked good. If you are 41 and want to shop at "Forever 21," I say go for it! I am much more irked when women of any age do not wear clothes that are situation appropriate. You don't need to come to a professional office or church with your tatas hanging out. Save that for the bar.
to add to this: just because it comes in your size doesn't mean it "fits." the UO here: dress the body you have not the body you dream about.
edit 'cause words are hard
Agreed. Plus sometimes I wonder why they even bother with sizes at all. Last time I went shopping for non-maternity clothes I ended up with clothes in sizes 2, 6, 8, 12, xsmall, medium, large depending on the store/brand. What is the point?
It's so one day we buy a size 2 then the next day we're in an 8 and "Gasp" now we're on a diet cause we need to be a certain number.
I guess mine's not really a UO but I kinda don't understand all the planning and researching so many people do. I would stress myself to death if I had to read a 10 page article on every available car seat on the market just so I could register on and then my in-laws are probably going to pick a different one anyway cause it had a cute butterfly pattern. I mean if you do by all means that's awesome it's the people that try and guilt me into thinking I'm a bad parent cause I didn't know that this pacifier was #2 not #1. I think if what you get for your child is safe, you do your best to make sure the child is fed, clean, clothed and loved then you're being the best parent you can. Everyone's situation is different.
Unless they ask you to you should give ladies who have had their babies a chance to post in the labor announcement thread instead of doing it for them to collect love tits.
Did someone actually do this??? Ballsy. And gross.
I think people over baby proof their house. I have friends who are just shy of padded walls with the baby proofing! I swear that I could leave my kid there and go take a nap because there is literally nothing for him to get hurt on. I understand lot wanting your kid to get hurt but let's not shelter these kids to the point that they don't know what getting hurt is like. She never has to tell her kid no because if it's out he can play with it. I don't enjoy telling my kid no but he knows what it means. He has had to learn there are things he's not to play with or climb on. He had learned boundaries. I just can't imagine how hard it would be to have a kid so sheltered then take them somewhere barely baby proofed at all. I have the kitchen gated off so the dog has a safe place to go and outlet covers. The end. He climbs on the hearth and I redirect. He starts grabbing cords and I tell him no. He climbs a toy (not made for climbing) repeatedly and it gets taken away for the day.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
Ok maybe another UO, I love my brother and consider him one of my best friends, sure we fought, had sibling rivalry etc growing up, but I can't believe that their are people still harboring these issues as adults.
I think you can't possibly judge until you know the dynamics of an individual relationship and the environment children were brought up in. My DH's resentment for his sister was probably more to do with the fact that the family unit wasn't happy when he was growing up. They get on great now, but he still has these "sticking points" that sound silly to others, but mean a lot to him. I think the toys thing may be more to do with what was going on at the time rather than just "sharing".
My mum hated her brother growing up, but she had good reason. He was 2 years older than her and he beat her up on several occasions. Even when they were in their late teens. He was the only boy out of 3 kids, so he was the one the family pinned their hopes on. She used to keep it to herself because her parents would never take her side. I think it's fair to harbour that kind of resentment as an adult. She's passed now and I know for a fact that he feels awful about how he treated her. He had his wife come talk to me at the funeral because he couldn't handle it. Too little, too late.

I took the pic out because it was the old sig challenge, but i can put it back in by popular request if you like. I haven't picked an avatar entirely out of laziness. Message received. I shall work on it tonight!

On the more than one child thing, what anyone else does is completely up to them. For me, when my dad passed away and my mom was struggling with cancer my sister was my rock. I can't imagine going through everything without her.
I wanted to give my daughter the gift of a sibling. To me, they're your oldest and truest friends. We're on baby number three and it's probably our last. It comforts me knowing that our family will go on when DH and I are gone. Sorry lil deep.

I haven't been able to figure out his whole siggy thing.. so I just made a signature
Newborn photo shoots strike me as odd. Especially the newborn photos where the baby has no diaper on. I tend to feel like an undiapered baby is a ticking time bomb. A cute little dirty bomb, in fact. Sometimes even a diapered baby can turn into a dirty bomb creature.
I wish we could give our child siblings. I mean its physically possible- my response to p17 and cerclage has been off the charts excellent so if I just started them even earlier I could have every expectation of carrying to viability again. But it's just so hard to get pregnant (IVF), and then so complicated to keep me pregnant... I think it would be a disservice to Elisabeth to lose her mom for 9 months just to gain a sibling. Plus for the cost of the treatments to give her a sibling- we could get her started with a nice college fund. It's not ideal- but we will all muddle along as a trio.
Friends for 17 years. Married 10. TTC since Jan 2009.

I think that doesn't become an unpopular opinion until you say why. (I voted Republican for president, but might just straight to libertarian next time.)

I loved having a little brother (he is 2 years younger but he is still MY little brother). Of course there are things that bothered me about having younger siblings (I also have a little sister but shes 7 years younger than me) but overall I am thankful for them.
Making the decision to have a child - it is momentous.

Agreed. No disrespect for an informed choice.
My dad and I tend to vote on opposite ends of the spectrum but I am a lot more aware of what his party's policies are and their track record than he is. When asked about his choice, he says he votes for whichever party gives him the best tax breaks.
Y's where they don't belong in names. Enough. I can sort of get the y instead of i thing but seriously, putting them where they don't belong like Jayne. Eww.
I disagree. To me Camrynn is no more uniquely spelled than Lynn, Brynn, etc.

Those aren't the best names to choose as an example, as they're the traditional spelling of those names.

I understand that, which is why I don't understand the issue with Camrynn "rynn" rhymes with Lynn, Brynn, etc. so to me it's not youneek.
Now "y" in place of an "i" I can see as unnecessary, Symon as opposed to Simon.

Ummmm….but the point is that Lynn and Brynn are traditional names spelt traditionally. Cameron is a traditional name spelt traditionally. Camrynn is a traditional name spelt youneekly. The fact that it rhymes with other names doesn't mean anything.

Even if a kid gets the traditional version of a name, they'll still have to spell it forever if there are youneek variations. I have an incredibly common name and still have to spell it for people regularly, same with the name we gave DD.
OMG ALL THE QUOTES.
I get the same. My name is Amy and all my life I've had to say "Amy with a Y" because people insist on trying to make it more complicated than it is.
My point to PP was that you can't really justify a youneek spelling because it rhymes with the traditional spelling of another name. It doesn't make sense. Don't get upset about it. Just accept that it's youneek!

I vote Republican as well but lean more Lib. I truly feel that the more government reach there is in our daily lives the worse off we are. I believe that capitalism is what has made our country as amazing as it is and truly am worries what our country will look like 20 years from now. I believe the constitution is just as relevant now as it was when it was drafted and should be adhered to by all branches of the government. regarding social issues, I feel that the government should not have a say in what I do with my life - and that goes for gay marriage, abortion rights, legalization of Mary Jane, etc. I believe that people are adults and can make the decision for how to live their life without Big Brother telling me that it's right or wrong. With where our country is at this point in time, I feel the social issues however must take a backseat to the bigger problems such as international relations and policy, the deficit, and the shitstorm that is brewing overseas right now.
That is why I vote Rep until there is a legit candidate to run on a third party ticket.
@awc1986 I'm not going to sit here and argue. My daughters name is youneekly spelled, I own that. I could care less if she has to spell her name for the rest of her life, my name is traditionally spelt and I constantly spell my name, so really it has nothing to do with her youneekly spelt name.
I could've used a better example, though I don't know that there is one.
Regardless, my kid is awesome, beautiful, and totally owns her name.

My UO is that I'm really dang pissed off that my FIL and his wife haven't contributed to the arrival of their grandchild in any way, shape or form. My dad is a widower and has bought the travel system and several other bits for us. He's probably spent about £800 on her so far.
The UO part of this is that I know it sounds like I'm expecting people to buy stuff for my baby, but over here it's a tradition that the grandparents help out with the big stuff.
*********Stuck in quote box*********
We have a [kind of] similar situation with my MIL except that it's my mom who loathes my MIL for not doing enough/much of anything for us.
FWIW - my parents have always gone above and beyond for me (and DH when he entered the picture) so I'm used to being spoiled, but I never complain when my mom doesn't offer to buy/pay for something. And I never ask her to.
I guess my UO is I don't really care how names are spelled; I care more about the pronunciation of a name and spelling is more of an after thought. I have a fairly common name (Carleigh) and regardless of the fact that it's spelled pretty uniquely I would have to spell it for anyone anyways, like most names. I also don't get butthurt when people spell it wrong, shit i mean even my own DH spelled it wrong when he first met me. My mom claims she picked my name because of how she saw it spelled, not how it sounds when you say it out loud. I have always thought that was strange because names are said out loud far more than they are written and spelled out.

So mine is thick, dark brownish/red and wavy. Kind of weird but very much me.
It sounds so amazing it's making me stabby. DH has beautiful long, thick, wavy hair. He's like Eddie Vedder circa '91. I'm hoping that all this heartburn means LO will get her daddy's hair. Mine is like an insult to hair.

I wanted to give my daughter the gift of a sibling. To me, they're your oldest and truest friends. We're on baby number three and it's probably our last. It comforts me knowing that our family will go on when DH and I are gone. Sorry lil deep.

My dad and I tend to vote on opposite ends of the spectrum but I am a lot more aware of what his party's policies are and their track record than he is. When asked about his choice, he says he votes for whichever party gives him the best tax breaks.

I understand that, which is why I don't understand the issue with Camrynn "rynn" rhymes with Lynn, Brynn, etc. so to me it's not youneek.
Now "y" in place of an "i" I can see as unnecessary, Symon as opposed to Simon.

What the fuck ever. Obviously that's my child's name already, my poor child will have to spell her name out for the rest.of.her.life. What a pity!

That is why I vote Rep until there is a legit candidate to run on a third party ticket.
I could've used a better example, though I don't know that there is one.
Regardless, my kid is awesome, beautiful, and totally owns her name.

I don't know that there is an example I could've used. Youneek is youneek. I get too worked up about it. I need to get over it. We cool?

P.S. My name is Anna. I have to spell it every. fucking. time. I also get asked how to spell my son's name, it's Rodney.

DH has beautiful long, thick, wavy hair. He's like Eddie Vedder circa '91. I'm hoping that all this heartburn means LO will get her daddy's hair. Mine is like an insult to hair.
