Re: Genevieve?

  • I love it! One of the few names that I love equally whether pronounced the English or French way.  Works super well with Caroline.

  • Love it! Don't like the NN Genny but love GiGi or Evie, Eva
  • I have a niece Genevieve. It is a beautiful name but it is almost too much if you're using the name frequently without a nn, which I didn't realize until I started saying it more. I think it goes pretty well with Caroline.

Our last name is really short (one syllable) so I lean toward longer names. I just think they sound a lot better. Genevieve doesn't seem too long to me w/o a nickname maybe because it's 3 syllables like Caroline. I'm not a nickname person.

DH probably wouldn't even go for it though. Elizabeth is his favorite girl name (besides Caroline).

  • Very pretty, feminine and not over used.  I do not care for some of the common nicknames people would use but love  Vi  I can't handle another Eve, Evie, and the like
  • Thumbs up...pretty and underused. I only know two Genevieves: one is DD's playmate, and one I knew in college.

  • Love it! Caroline and Genevieve would make a great sibset.

  • Love it so much that I chose to use it as my confirmation name.

Would you be opposed to nn genny, gen; vieve?

  • I'm a Genevieve. I didn't like my name when I was little because it was hard to spell but I love it now. I went by Gen until college. I make up another name when I order food, though. Spelling it out for other people is annoying. People mispronounce my name all the time. Just today my ultrasound tech called me "Geneva."  My FIL called me Guinevere for a long time.
  • I recently learned it is a family name, so it is growing on me. It is very pretty.

Would you use the American pronunciation? That is my sticking point on it. I think the French pronunciation is better, but worry it would sound too pretentious in my region.

  • My DD is Genevieve. Clearly I love the name :) We go back and forth between calling her Genevieve and Jenna. I think it goes really well with Caroline!

  • I love Genevieve! No nn nessasary.........my mom and niece both go by Genevieve, no nn, and no problems at all!
  • I love it -- it's in my top 3 at the moment.  Would probably use the nn Vivi or Vieve.  I'm a bit worried it's about to enjoy a major popularity surge, though.  Not that that's the end of the world by any means.
  • I love it in a french accent.

  • I love Geneviève, hate the American Genevieve. Gorgeous coming from a French speaker. Still, without the accent the name will always be Genevieve. Yuck. Ça me fait penser au lai de Marie de France, Lanval !
  • Love love love! Genevieve and Caroline are both on my hypothetical girl list. So is Elizabeth, actually. :)

I would probably use NN Evie, but I don't think a NN is required if you don't want it.

  • I love the name Genevieve! I only know one, who has never gone by a NN.
