  • I equate a southern accent with not being smart. I know there are smart southerners but I have difficulty separating my "dumb" character voice for "southern" character voice in my head. Sorry southerners, I've been northeast for too long now!
(I do have two very good southern friends who are smart ladies but I can't help but make fun of their drawl!)

With the exception of daycare, I don't think babies are that expensive. We BF, CD, and almost all her toys and clothes are hand me downs or gifts.
Yeah, daycare cost is ridiculous! If it weren't for that, our main cost would be formula and clothes, and there are ways to save on both.  But daycare costs as much per year as a couple of years at a community college!
  • *I think the older generation IS, not are...sorry @chicagochic82

I don't understand why people still say they EBF. I think all of our LOs are on solids right now, so I don't feel like the words "exclusively breast fed" fit in anymore. I always just preferred to use BF anyway. I don't think in the context, anyone would confuse it as boyfriend lol. I feel like the only thing EBF actually means now is NFF (not formula fed). SWIDT? Lolz. Moar acronyms!

When I first joined and people would have EBF badges that would say We EBF for 1 year, I was very confused because of course they need solids so they are not EBF. I get that they mean no bottles, but at the same time is an occasional bottle really that big of a deal?
The whole EBF thing is just a covert way of looking down at ff or bottles in my mind. And this is from someone who "EBF" for the first 6 months of both babes. The E is unecessary.
I think that's ridiculous. I have used EBF before and all it has (ever) meant to me is that the baby is being only BFed at the time. I think you can supplement with formula for a while and then go to EBF when there is no need for supplementing anymore.

I'm so freaking sick of people looking for ways to fuel mommy wars. There is nothing "covert" about the E at all.

I just feel like breastfed suffices. The word "exclusive" has snooty connotations almost everywhere it is used. It may not be meant to sound like you're looking down at someone but that word just implies it.
I get the whole won't take a bottle thing because DS1 wouldn't take one but I still just said he's breastfed and there everyone knew he got the boob from that so why add another word?

Um, FFTC is EBF really no bottles? I always thought it was that baby gets only BM.

No way! I consider J "EBF" until solids and she got a bottle every feed :)
    I agree.

  • Ooh, I have one. Sometimes I wish I had the tv on a little more when I was on maternity leave. LO literally has no interest and the one time a week I want him to just sit for 10 minutes while I straighten up, it's a no go. Luckily he loves the Ergo and still loves the jumparoo.
@violet1183 I had the tv on all the time while I was on maternity leave and DD still has no interest in it.

@calikat80 my step-dad is an incredibly intelligent man with a thick southern accent.

  • I always wanted a southern accent as a kid...
  • Ha! You guys I didn't say all southerns were ignorant or not smart. I obviously know that there are smart people nations wide. But it's kind of like what wren was saying about NPR- they sound like the smartest people in the world to me and you can't detect an accent from anywhere. I had a hardcore buffalo accent before I went to college and I lost it quick because I didn't hear how bad it sounded until I had a roommate from California (they have like, no accent). Also my two good friends from Louisiana had serious drawls when I met them, but after being at school in the northeast they all together dropped it. I don't know what the deal is but most people seem to strive for no accent.
And giggle no, no duck dynasty here but I did watch magic mike and Matthew mccounaghy have me some serious evidence for my stereotype!

  • I am pro-feeding babies.

    Southern accents are sexy.

My family is much more important to me than any career and I refuse to feel bad about that. When I go back to work full time it will be so we can pay for extras, like vacations, and savings for the kids. Not to work my way up any ladder. I will say no thanks to that stress.

My family is much more important to me than my career too. I don't know anyone who would say otherwise. That doesn't mean my career isn't something I care about nor does it mean I should give it up. Working my way up the ladder does not imply that I am choosing career over family.

You are right about the stress though. It is an added stress to juggle both.

NPR has it's own accent. Every time I listen to them I think about how they have an accent all their own. It's weird!
