Breastfeeding

Refusing to feed after a small accident

My 16 wk had a fall yesterday and now he's refusing to feed from the breast.  We think he may have hit his chin (because there is a scratch), but if you press on his gums he gives no complaint.  We haven't tried to bottle feed warmed breast milk.  We've tried feeding him freshly expressed milk, which he does not eat.  Needless to say, I'm a little worried.  Can I get him back onto the breast?!  Or am I stuck with continuing to bottle feed?

Re: Refusing to feed after a small accident

  • We've seen to the Dr. about the fall.  Did a CT scan.  He's feeding from a bottle, but is refusing the breast.  I really don't want to give up breastfeeding already.

  • I'm sorry you are going through this! I hope your son goes back to breastfeeding soon.
(New to this thred so hello!)
  • I just had a small fall on my chin and I can tell you its a but sore. Maybe sucking from breast may hurt him more than from the bottle. Maybe keep offering him breast and once he is less sore he may latch. But this means you will have to pump.

    So glad he is ok.
  • I'm glad he is OK and I would also pump until he starts again. Maybe offer the breast every 2-3 hours and see how he reacts.

Try feeding him when he is sleepy. Right before a nap or middle of night feedings.
