I get anxious about planning, so it was important to me to at least try to meet with the pedi ahead of time. I researched a few practices nearby and chose one I thought looked great. We went for a prenatal consultation earlier this month and had a great experience. It's a big practice, but they have teams of nurses and doctors so that it feels small. The receptionist alone was really friendly and helpful and gave us a tour. And then our doctor--awesome! She totally fits our style and her patience and openness impressed me. It's just my personality, but it makes me feel happy and prepared just knowing exactly who our pedi will be with no doubts or expectations to change doctors later.
I didn't, but we went with the same pediatrician our friends take their sons too, and I was able to ask them my questions ahead of time. Our doctor is awesome and we love her. We've also had good experiences with all of the other doctors at the hospital.
In regards to enrolling, at least around here, you can call for availability, but pediatricians' offices won't enroll an infant as a new patient until the baby is discharged from the hospital.
I thought about meeting the doctor before the baby arrives but decided to just meet the doctor on our little ones first visit. My friend just recently recommended this doctor to us and swears she's great. We shall see!
We didn't. There are a million options, so if I'm not happy, I'll just switch. We're starting at a large, well recommended multi-doctor practice because of their hours and locations. Plus my OB uses them with her baby so that's a good testament. I asked my OB if I should meet with them and she didn't seem to think it was all that important. They don't have you meet a dr, just the office manager. No thanks.
We won't be. Generally, in the Canadian system, the GP is the go-to for everything and a pediatrician requires a specialist referral. Some areas don't completely follow that but mine seems to.
We didn't meet our pedi before DS was born. It just wasn't that big of a deal to me. I figured I could always switch later. We ended up loving him though and he is a perfect fit for us.
Re: Anyone not meeting with a pediatrician before baby comes?
It's just my personality, but it makes me feel happy and prepared just knowing exactly who our pedi will be with no doubts or expectations to change doctors later.
