Bump Anomalys- EDIT

Sometimes (ok, a lot of times) I read about things on here that I have never encountered or heard anyone else mention IRL.  It sort of makes me think that maybe I am from outer space.  Can anyone relate?  I am talking about things like:

1) 4 month wakeful.  WTF?

2) Gender vs Sex (I DO totally understand the diff between the two and why it's offensive to misuse gender when you mean sex, but I have never in my life heard anyone IRL get as up in arms about it as I have seen here.)

3) Extended RF in car seat (meaning past age 2)

4) Sip and sees

There are so many more-- this is just off the top of my head.  Anyone else?

EDIT-- how did you guys let me go so long without correcting my spelling of "anomalys".  WTF spellcheck?  Where did you go?

  • A whole bunch of topics on TB I've never seen anyone IRL gets so worked up on.
4 month wakeful didn't happen with DS so I guess that's why I never heard of it. The gender/sex thing. Never heard a debate on their usage in everyday conversation. ERF.. I only know of one person who went to almost 2. We're the only ones who have gone past two so we're the strange/"odd" <- according to DH's mom this weekend so I guess I've experienced the opposite. LOL but still, never been in any kind of debate or really care enough to point things out to other people.
& I've never heard of sip & sees.

I guess people are just more passionate online because it's easier to netbattle than confront someone IRL.
We RF'd until 2, but I honestly have no clue what me friends do/ did.  It's never come up.

andplusalso, the pouch & sweatpant hate. It's seriously not that serious IRL. LOL

Not sure what the sweatpant hate is?  I mean, I hate sweatpants on grownups in public (unless you have the flu?  In that case, please stay at home).

But DD regulalry wears sweats.  I sent her to DC today in Minnie Mouse sweats.

Also, she hates pouches and I wish she loved them because they are so damn convienient.

People hate pouches?!! I think they are awesome.
  • Also rather you breastfeed or not. What you feed your baby specifically. When to take them to the doctor. Mainly just people on here that think they know everything about everything and everyone else is dumb so they are just snarky to them.

Cart returning?  What is there to have an opinion about?

The charting is another big one for me too.  I kinda sorta paid attention to my cycles while TTC, but aint nobody got time for that.

I don't think we would spank, but I have swatted at DD's hand more than once and made her cry.

  • I never heard of showers for a second (or more) baby until the bump. Though I can tell from the BSB that there are a lot of people who had the opposite experience!
This is another one for me!  I am boggled by 2nd showers, but I have learned that is highly regional.

On the toddler boards people talk down about pouches all the damn time. My kid eats one every damn day and it is AWESOME.
WTF is the problem with them? They are applesauce!!! They come in a pouch instead of a container! Whatever my kid eats them all the time.

Why is teaching your kid to feed him/herself lazy?!
  • Sorry, sorry, sorry! I agree with cart returning. There is NOTHING that pisses me off more than buying a BRAND NEW CAR and coming out of the grocery store and seeing a cart against it.  Just no.  It happened to me, and I could have cried.  That's why I wish peeps would take 2 seconds to return them.

    Agree with everything else.

I'll add wearing sneakers with jeans. I live in this.
And leggings. I think leggings and boots are SO super cute, as long as the shirt is long enough.
I also don't get the sex/gender thing. I mean, I GET it.  But in real life, this just isn't a thing and I don't care.  I kept chuckling yesterday when Savannah Guthrie came out with her pregnancy and there was a "gender" poll.. I said outloud "OHHHH snap!!!!  The BUMP would rip you all apart!!" hahaha.  Meh.  Who cares.

If pouches existed when DD was a baby, I would have used many pouches.  I wish they were. Alas..

I also think some pretend to be healthier than they are :P
Ain't no one got money to eat 100% organic, no fast food, no preservatives, etc etc etc.

  • Never been to a gender reveal party! Definitely a bump anomaly.

One of my best friends kept her DS rear facing until 3, and that was before the days of TB. That's who I learned about it from.

TV time I agree. My DD started watching TV before she was a year old. She's testing for gifted classes next year so if it did somehow damage her intellect I'd be afraid to see what she'd be like without it.

  • Many of the anomalies I would've listed have been brought up.  I've seen way too many over the years, both here and on TN boards.

As for a few of them:

    - Carts.  I get really stabby when people are too lazy to push their damned cart to the corral or to the front of the store.  My car may not be brand new, but I don't need dings and scratches from someone who is going to be rude and leave their cart hanging around.

    - The R word.  That's not really an anomaly on TB.  Even using it as slang is offensive, and it upsets me when anyone uses it period.  It's not even a correct term to use clinically anymore, and I wish it would disappear from the language period.
I agree with the R word.  I will admit to using it in the past as slang, and I regret doing so.  I would encourage DD to use the F word before I would tolerate the R word.

  • I've also encountered all of these things in blogs, the magazines, etc but not so much IRL. But I'm also in a rural area.

The real-life grief I get for pouches is the environmental waste angle.

Just for the record i return my cart. If someone doesn't i will side eye them but i'm not going to say anything or let it ruin my day.

I have used the R word in slang. I have also used gay in slang. I have matured and realized those are not appropriate terms to use and no longer do so. HOWEVER getting into a netbattle and flaming someone over using it in a slang way is just absurd to me. Point it out and let it go. Personally i know use mentally challenged and i'm not even sure if that is the proper term. SOMEONE please let me know.

  • 4 month wakeful kicked my ass. I only knew it had a name because of the TB, but it totally existed here. Pouches are awesome. Please return your cart. I know many anti-vaxers because I am quite crunchy and the two tend to go hand in hand (obviously not all crunchy mamas don't vax, but it is seems to be more prevalent in that crowd, and that's the crowd I run in). Also, while no one wars over it IRL, I've had several bfing/formula conversations with real people.

Gender reveal parties -- one of my fb friends recently had one and wholly obnoxious. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was just a party with the added perk of sex reveal, but it was seriously insane. Plus, she got the envelope with the sex a few weeks in advance and posted almost daily about how she couldn't wait to find out at the party.

I still have no idea was a sip and see is.

    Me either.  Someone please explain!
A sip and see to my knowledge happens after the baby is born. Its a small gathering with light snacks. Gifts are not required. And everyone gets to see the baby.
  • I have a trans friend.. and even they don't care about this issue, maybe that's why it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.  And I definitely don't enforce gender norms... my little girl has super short hair and plays with trucks on a daily basis.  My best friend is a lesbian, married to a woman.. and I'm bisexual.   So I'm most certainly one of the most open minded persons you'll ever meet- I love everyone, and I'm s FIRM believer in equality rights for ALL.   And even that all said, I still can't seem to get up in arms regarding sex/gender.  I always say it properly.. but I don't tend to correct people who don't, or get cranky over it.
