Seriously, maternity clothes make me stabby. I'm so awkwardly proportioned, shopping is not fun. At least they have cuter options than they did in the past.
i wouldn't say there's anything cute for plus size maternity. they are just eh.
shorts & pants are no good for me. i have two pairs of shorts & they are so long. i think they're supposed to be bermuda but they're so awkward.
I think I found three tops I can actually say I like, everything else is "I can live with it." I'm too scared to even look into dresses or skirts. Why is every top stripped and every skirt made for very tall women?
It will all depend on if I can find something. Some of the maternity dresses are so cute until I try them on. It doesn't help I am so short so even the cute little dresses are an awkward length on me or my lack of boobs doesn't fill out the top enough. Who knows. I did order a couple of cute shirts from Zulily last week so worst case scenario it's one of those and maybe I can find some capris that are the right length too. Short and pregnant are not a good combo when it comes to clothes shopping.
@izzetoot that's a really cute dress. You could wear it over leggings or jeans too and it could be nice casual or dressy depending on your shoes and accessories. I might need that dress too lol!
I know!! Its so adorable and versatile. I think im going to go for it... You should too!!
i bought this dress from ASOS maternity since the price was reasonable with the 25% off coupon code i found. i'm having 2 showers and will wear this to both. the pink and blue seemed appropriate since we are team green, so i'm repping both colors!
When I was trying on clothes the other day I realized I hadn't looked at my legs in a while! I literally wondered to myself, who's legs are those?! I quickly decided I'll need a long dress! I didn't want to spend a lot, so I headed to Old Navy... I found an inexpensive, cute cotton maxi maternity dress to wear. Since my shower will be nice but not super fancy, I hope this will fit the bill?! I can spruce it up with a little cardigan and/or colorful belt above my belly?!
I got a brand new $80 Pea in the Pod dress with tags still on it for only $25 at thredup.com. So comfy and flattering, and I'll also be wearing it to a wedding.
I LOVE to dress up, so once I found out where my shower was going to be, I first tried on everything I own. It's a somewhat fancy restaurant, to my surprise! When not a single dress fit, I went online and ordered two dresses at Target. I tried a few other sites, like pea in the pod, and just cannot bring myself to spend that much. I ordered two dresses because my family back in NY throwing one and my in-laws here are throwing a small one, too. Target had great, stylish options for really reasonable prices. I will either try them on and return one, or keep both if I'm in love. I prefer online shopping because store dressing rooms just make me depressed~ lol.
Well my 1st shower will be in Chicago in April. I bought a cute spaghetti strapped, ruffle front, khaki romper since my shower colors are pastel. I planned to wear a cropped denim jacket over it since my arms have grown with my belly. However the polar vortex or whatever the heck has been happening there this winter may not let me get away with it. I have a cute warm beige sweater dress from Target as a back up though.
I am getting my dress made for my shower! I want to be really coordinated with the theme of my shower and I also want something that is going to fit really well. So I will be getting fitted the week before and crossing my fingers my belly stays the same!
I hate spending the $ on something I will only wear once but I'm having a very big shower at a little bit nicer marina. I didn't have much luck with dresses hiding this awesome new vericose vein right above my knee so this is what I came up with.....pants & lace top from Destination Maternity. Hopefully I won't hate wearing heals in a month! Bringing backup flats of course
when I got a bunch of maternity clothes we grabbed a few dresses, mostly because I like dresses. I have 4 that would all work equally well, despite the fact none were purchased specifically for the purpose of a shower.
I actually found a dress I love today at Motherhood (picture attached) only problem is they didn't have an XL in store and the L was really tight in the bust for some reason. Usually their stuff fits me fine but this is a delicate silk fabric with no give. Hoping they get an XL in stock so I can try it on. The shower isn't till may 4th. I'm afraid these puppies may keep growing. Pretty soon, nothing will be able to contain them. Bleh. Still cute dress and only $44.
I wanted to do a dress but my shower is in April and it's just a little early here for something summery, and I'm not wearing tights... So I found a pair of sea foam green capris that I'll wear with a navy blue lace top (hoping they fit)... Ordered them from the loft a few days ago with a 40% off coupon.
I'll prob hit the consignment shops nearby or pick up a maxi dress from Ross or Target. Since this will be my only pregnancy I don't want to buy a bunch of clothes I won't wear again.
We have a goodwill here and I look all the time. Usually it's all old fashioned out of date maternity clothes but the other day I found 10 shirts in my size. All name brands for $2 each!! None nice enough for my shower but def needed!!
I wore these two outfits for some of our maternity pictures...they are actually size large from target in the regular women's clothing. Some maternity clothes just aren't cute.
I'm worried now that I'm getting bigger I won't find something cute for my shower
I bought three dresses and haven't decided when to wear which- I got a bright blue Rosie Pope one from Shopbop, a Black and white striped long sleeve dress from Pea in a Pod, and a crazy floral print on black one from Topshop. They're all knee length and body con because I think it's most flattering on me when I show off the bump instead of covering up with a trapeze style.
A little PSA...if you have a Burlington Coat Factory near you, they have maxi dresses for $19.99. Most maxi dresses are stretchy and will work for the majority of your pregnancy. Please note they do also have a maternity section with some but I hated those. I scored three that I love!
I actually found non maternity maxi skirts that fit me and have a bit of stretch for more growing (at walmart of all places) in the length so I'll more than likely be pairing one with a nice top. Maxi dresses are always inches too long and I hate jeans at this point.
I have to order a maternity bridesmaids dress for a wedding. I will be wearing the dress when I am 39 weeks, 3 days. I have to order the dress when I'm 34 weeks. It is custom sizing so I have to take measurements. How many more inches to the belly should I add to my 34 week measurement to make sure it fits?
Absolutely- this is the last shower that I'll have, and I'm a "girly girl," so I really do want a new dress! (I'm having/had 2 showers, so don't judge!)
I tend to favor tight dresses because I figure there's no hiding the belly! (Plus, I've heard people want to see it!) I've worn the first one already and got TONS of compliments on it!)
@Kinipela7 I have no idea about the measurement, but you're in a wedding at 39+ weeks?!?
Ha! Yeah, if I'm still around with no baby. Sounds fun - right? It's about 20 minutes from the hospital and the ceremony is only 10 minutes long and I am free to go if I don't want to do the reception so it shouldn't be too horrible. Well except for the fact that I will look like shamu by then.

You should be able to go into the place it is being ordered and they should be able to help you out better. Most of the people that work in the wedding shops are usually pretty familiar with all body types. Good luck.

It's a store online only. That would be nice though!
OK just ordered these 2 from Old Navy to hopefully wear to my shower and my BFF's shower the weekend before.. lets hope they're as cute on as they are online - PS they're having a "Surprise Sale" online today - just got 30% off

I agree! I'd maybe talk to the bride and see if she's willing to make an exception for you on the dress. Bridesmaid dresses are costly anyway, and for one that you could possibly be in the hospital having a baby instead of wearing, that seems like too much. I'd try to sell her on you being able to wear one in the same color palette/style.
Re: will you buy a new dress/outfit for your baby shower?
