Re: Book worm check-in! What are you reading?

  • I'm reading Voyager which is #3 in the Outlander series. And thus far I'm LOVING the series!!! Right now, I don't have the mental capacity to read multiple books at a time :( But I'm def bookmarking this thread, lots of great reccomendations!!!!

  • I love YA too! Big Harry Potter fan, and waiting for new books by Richelle Mead and Cassandra Clare to come out. Such guilty pleasures!

Just started reading Cuckoo's Calling (JK Rowling wrote it under a pseudonym).

I read most of Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. I agree with PP - it's very "meh." Has some good info, but the author comes off as completely unlikable half the book.

DH and I have been married 3+ years. This is our first PG, and we are thrilled!
Can't wait to meet our baby BOY, Mateo in October!!

Reading girlfriends guide to pregnancy it is fine nothing to write home about. Was also reading the second book of the matched series but stopped to read pregnancy books need to povk it back up again Can't wait for the last book in the selection series to come out in May
This! Have you read the about the drama regarding the author on Goodreads? Apparently she and the publisher were caught conspiring on Twitter about faking good reviews on her novels on Goodreads. Turned me off to the author but I still want to read the last book - will just get it from the library though.

Oh I forgot about this series- but I loved it! :) Definitely want to read the third book. And I didn't hear this drama either, sounds lame on their part. I mean, look at the terrible reviews Allegiant got and it's still being made into a movie. ;)

  • I just started Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell (I think two other people mentioned it already).  I read Fangirl at the beginning of the year and it was wonderful. Incredibly well-written and really captured the fandom experience. Anyone who has been involved in a fandom (particular of the HP variety) I think would really enjoy it.

Movie adaptations? I'm among those looking forward to The Fault in Our Stars movie but also know I will cry my eyes out...

I have some time off from work coming up so I plan to catch up on a lot of reading!

I just started The Wolf of Wall Street yesterday.  It's entertaining, but God is that guy a douche!  I'm really not sure I can get through the whole book.  Anyone else read it?

I'm listening to The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan, about humans' evolutionary relationship with different plants.  I'm a gardener, so I really like it, but it is a bit dry sometimes.

Ken Follett's final book in his Century Trilogy comes out this fall, and I'm excited about that.  I also think the new Outlander book comes out this fall.  While I'm not caught up in that series yet (I just read book 5 last fall), I'm still excited for another book to look forward to.

I am excited to see the Divergent movie that comes out this weekend, though!  And I'm looking forward to seeing the movie for The Fault In Our Stars, but I won't see it in theaters because of the ugly crying it will induce.  So I'll wait for DVD.

For parenting books, I really enjoyed Bringing Up Bebe.  What I think struck home with me was the fairly laid back, independent approach to parenting that most Europeans tend to take, as compared to the "helicopter parent" that I've seen too often in person.  There's also something true about the idea of treating kids as the little human beings that they are, and respecting their personalities, opinions and choices.
I think we have similar taste in books! I didn't think I would make it through the Wolf of Wall Street either... it definitely gets better and omg I know, for a majority of the book I was like--- what an a-hole this guy is!!!  I still haven't seen the movie, dying to see it!

Also can't wait for Divergent!  I loved that series!  I agree with waiting for DVD or Redbox for the Fault in Our Stars.  I tried to read that book during my lunch break at work a couple of times and it was so embarrassing cause I'd be like teary eyed.

After that one I decided to take a break from emotional stuff and went back to mysteries.  I love David Baldacci.  I recently read "The Innocent" and just started "The Hit".
  • Just finished The Invention of Wings. Now starting The Book Thief, I know I am a bit behind...

The Bronze Horseman series, by Paullina Simons, which was recommended to me because I just finished and loved the Outlander series.

This is on my list too! Let me know what you think...I hear it is so good!

  • ladybug0088:   So far, the first book was fantastic, the 2nd book less so.  Great story, and excellent depiction of WWII Leningrad.  If Outlander is not yet on your list, I'd put it on there ASAP -- one of my favorite series (and soon to be a miniseries on Starz!).  Let m eknow if you have any other rec's!

I just finished Unbroken - it was really good. Trying to find a new one to get into. I am thinking of either starting "The Monuments Men" or the Jim Henson Biography.

@TicketTuesday - hope I dont sound like a creeper, but I am pretty sure we were on the month boards together when our LOs were babies. Good to see you! Finn is still a major cutie.

Just finished the Uglies and Matched trilogies. I'm about to start Unbroken which I've heard is ridiculously good, but now @MrsSinner402 has got me itching to start HP again... Sigh.

Question for the Divergent fans, has anyone read the third book yet? I read the first two over a year and a half ago but after reading the not-so-great reviews (and a spoiler or two) I just have no desire to read the third.

    Is it any good?
IMO, nope.  In my head, that series is restricted to one book.  That first book was SO GOOD, but then the other two just got worse and worse and the last one was no good at all.
I am reading the third book right now in the Divergent series. Its not as good as the first one but I am going to finish it eventually, I think
