Pregnant in heels?

I don't get dressed up often, but when I do, there's usually a pair of heels on my feet. This weekend I wore a pair to my friend's birthday party and a male attendee commented that "you can't wear those while you're pregnant". I don't take kindly to anyone who can't get or has never been pregnant giving me pregnancy advice, but I thought his feelings might be a good point of discussion, so I thought I'd ask you ladies for your opinions.

IMO, it is okay to wear heels as long as your balance/equilibrium isn't off. Also, I wear them very rarely (maybe twice a month) I'm 4 months, and barely showing, so balance has not become an issue for me. If/when it does, I will wear lower heels and/or remove them from my wardrobe altogether.

What do you guys think? Do you wear heels or think they are okay? Or do you think they're a big no no??

I think heels are fine during pregnancy, but I personally am avoiding them as much as possible because my foot doc told me your foot tendons stretch and often do not shrink back during pregnancy, if you wear heels it can exacerbate any existing foot issues you might have...which I have plenty of....from wearing heels ;)

  • SS here. Use your own good judgement and bring a pair of flats in case your feet swell. If you're feeling good and balanced, by all means...work it grrrrrl!

For me, I can barely function in heels on a good day. So, heels for me in the next 6 months will be a no no.

  • brittneyandadam An extra pair of flats is a MUST! Pregnant or not. Lol!  Also why I usually wear heels when I know I'll be able to sit down at will  ;-)

  • Wear them! I got crap for it a lot with my last pregnancy but I wore them until I was uncomfortable.

This time, I hardly wear them because I'm chasing two toddlers do I'm already exhausted.

    People need to SHUTUP.

I just can't do it!! I walk like I'm learning how to roller skate or something in them. It's terrible and too painful for my dear ole hips! I do kittens or just very low heels if I must. My balance was never tip top to begin with either. I'm just asking for trouble wearing 3+ inches.

  • High heels are no worse for you than flip flops. I wouldn't wear them all day, but I see nothing wrong with wearing them for a special occasion.

  • I think people criticized Jessica Simpson a few years ago for wearing heals while pregnant. I don't think it is a big deal, if you are comfortable go for it!

  • Wear what you are happy and comfy in. I personally only wear heels to job interviews and weddings but I went to both last pregnancy and rocked them! Don't do sausage feet ever...see above previous poster pic.

baby #3 arrived in September 2014...cannot get ticker to work no matter what I try!

  • I wore them my entire first pregnancy. Not so much this one I wear cute boot flats but that's because I have a 2 year old son I chase around. But when I go out I do!

  • If you can wear them comfortably then go ahead. My feet were so swollen last pregnancy in 3rd tri I wouldn't have worn anything except flats.

  • My thought is whatever feels comfortable to you.  I've seen some pregnant ladies wear cute heels (albeit not 5 inch heels or anything) throughout their pregnancy.  I wish I could do that but I didn't feel comfortable wearing heels for long periods of time prior to being pregnant so more power to you if you feel comfortable doing it!

  • The last two months or so of my last pregnancy, I switched exclusively to flats.  But, up until then, I was all about my heels.  Granted, they weren't crazy hooker heels, but I do love a good wedge in the summer especially.

  • I say rock them if you can.  But not to the point of pain or limping.  Nothing worse than a pregnant woman in heels walking like her feet hurt.

I very rarely wear high high heels because I'm already 5'9" so anything above 2-3 inches and I look like an amazon.
Rock that Amazon look, woman! I'm 5'11" and wear heels most days in the office. DH is almost 6'4" and the heels I bought for my wedding dress put us eye-to-eye, which he loves. Amazons unite!!

Absolutely!  I didn't create the poll to get advice on what to wear, or because I needed confirmation that my choices are okay... I was just wondering how other pregnant women felt about wearing high heels.  This is about getting perspectives, not permission.  :)

Ditto birttneyandadam! I think it depends on each person, and what your comfort level is. I usually wear low heels for work, and plan on wearing more flats and wedges instead of heels. I definitely plan on wearing heels for an upcoming wedding though ;-)

I didn't mean a ridiculous conversation for the board, I meant ridiculous that somebody would comment on your pregnancy footwear / apparel choices in real life! ;-)
