Supplemental Nursing System

Has anyone heard of this or tried it? Basically its a way for the non-bio mom to feed and bond with the baby. Two tubes taped to her nipples allow the baby to suck milk from a bottle around the mothers neck. Essentially, I would pump my breast milk as the bio-mom, put it in a bottle and allow for my wife to feed the baby. I think that it would be a great way for them to bond since she isnt carrying. I want her to be involved in every way possible and to have the same bonding experiences as if she were the bio-mom. The system is made by medela which is the company that makes the breast pumps if anyone wants to look up the system.

  • I have heard of this but don't have any experience with these systems. We are starting a new induced lactation group, you are more than welcome to stick around and check that out!

  • Yes I am definitely interested in that. I read that with the system I mentioned that after a while, my wife would begin to produce her own milk which would be great for when I'd have to return to work or couldn't make enough milk.
  • I currently am using an SNS. I induced lactation using the Newman Goldfarb protocol and am making milk just not enough at the moment to handle a feeding all on my own. I use the lact aid kit which works well. Takes a few tries to get used to but it works for feeding him and letting my wife get more sleep. By using it my supply has def increased, but we have a piggy baby who eats a lot so I'm hoping over time my supply continues to grow to keep up.
