I loved Anica (and still do), but a friend named her daughter Annika so I didn't consider using it for DD. If DS had been a girl, Anica would likely have been the name, though.
DH & I had decided on Liam as our boy name during my pregnancy with DD. Obviously she's a girl so we didn't use it. When we found out DS was a boy, we didn't even consider Liam. It just didn't feel right anymore. We'll probably never use it now, even if we have another boy in the future.
I love William, but it's a family name. Except my grandpa, every make family member named William/goes by Billy has turned out to make some awful life choices. So the name feels cursed/tainted. Loved Liam as an alternative but it's too popular. I always loved Olivia and Lucy, but both are way you popular for my taste.

I have a lot of names we cannot use simply because of our last name, which is close to Lily. Like nothing with an L (e.g., Lucas Lily- too many L's) or anything with a Y Gregory Lily- again repetition at the end, or William (nn Willy Lily).
For a girl I used to really love Cora and Delaney. For a boy Nolan and Bennett. They've all become more popular, and I think I'm just over them. They'll all fine, but they just don't do it for me any more.
i freakin love Cecilia but can't use it because my neice is Amelia.
I think they are different enough for cousin names. Especially if one of both girls had nicknames. Too close for siblings, but I think fine for cousins.
A friend lost a son named Evan. It knocks a few names off my list. And makes me extra paranoid - third little one I know to die of what seemed like the common cold.
I used to love the name Addison for a girl - this was before Grey's Anatomy and I had never even heard it as a name at the time. Now it's way to popular. Loved Chason for a boy. Don't remember where I heard that originally, but now that I'm actually having a boy, I just can't do it. Seems too much like a made-up name. There are also several names that I associate with people I know that, although I like the name, just can't use them. I wanted to use a name that doesn't make me think of any particular person (other than my son, of course!)
I always wanted to have a daughter named MaryAnne, but DH had a girlfriend in high school Marianne, so it was out. Our daughter is Marie Stella, and I can't picture her as a MaryAnne at all. I loved MaryAnne from babysitters club, she was quiet and shy. Dd is outgoing and very bubbly.
DH and I both love Emmett for a boy, but we refuse to use any name with an "E". A couple of close friends recently had babies - both boys - only a couple of months apart - and named them each with E names (actually they are both "El" names making it even more confusing.) Anyway, so since we are also having a boy, jokes have been made about how they will be best buds and we're building a "boyband" and all this - so yeah, you couldn't PAY us to name our kid with an "E" name too.
Additionally, DH has crossed Henry off of the top of his list, once he found out how popular it is right now - especially among the hipster crowds.

The only name I can think of that I used to like, but am now over is Sinjin. For a girl.
I also used to love my grandpas name bert, but i now think his name should fade into obscurity...
