Newborn photo shoot, please PIP yours!

A good friend and amazing photographer is doing my newborn photo shoot. I'm looking for ideas on poses and props. I would love to see your favorites! Also when did you have them done? I know most full term babies get them in the first 10 days but my photographer said depending on how early they are we might want to wait 14 days.

I would think based on your ticker that you would be okay doing them in the 10 to 14 day range. My boys were born at 37 weeks 5 days and they had theirs done 10 days after they were born.

My boys were three weeks old when we had it done. They were born at 33w2d and spent time in the nicu.

My twins were in the NICU for three months, so I can't say the best time to get the pictures taken, but ours were done about two weeks after their due date. I have a few of the newborn shoot below.

Mine were born 33w5d and I didn't get them done until they were around a month...WAY too long, I know. Though I did have a friend come to the NICU and take some pictures there as well. So glad she did that, those days are a blur.

I'm so jealous of these adorable newborn pics! My girls were such light sleepers, they woke up when we tried to position them! No cute pics... Always one sleeping and the other screaming!

I had the babies at 37w2d and we had their pictures taken at 15 days. Colt was awake most of the time so I know he would have done better a few days earlier.

I'm jealous. With our DD (now 3), we relied on our hospital's pictures... most hospitals in our area do really adorable little photo shoots of the newborns... but when we got them they were terrible. Apparently, our hospital's idea of a newborn photo shoot was to plonk her on a broken hospital scale and take 4 pictures with a webcam. Even the 5x7 prints came out a little blurry and a lot pixilated. DH is contracting someone else he knows to take better pictures of the twins when they get here. Ugh.

I've seen a lot of cute pictures of babies in little baskets. Someone on here had pictures posted a while back, and they had their little ones laying on their bellies with knees curled up under them, heads turned toward the camera, one on each level of a little doll bunk bed. Of course, I imagine the little ones can't be wiggly at all to make that work without them falling off. We have a little doll cradle that I've had since I was a kid... if they'll both fit, maybe we'll have them cuddle up together in that. We need some sort if idea on how to get a good picture of our toddler with them, too. She's a bit too little to hold them (both at the same time at least). If they look very similar, I'd try to figure out some sort of way to designate which baby is which in the pictures.

My boys were born 37w3d. These were taken when they were 8 days old by a very good friend. It was not easy trying to get them both to cooperate, but she did a great job

We couldn't get them on their stomachs for a pose, but that's Ok. We did try! Here are two of the pics she shared.

Just to add my two cents about newborn photography... my advice is don't get too caught up in the specifics like certain props or poses. If you trust your photographer, just give him/her a general idea of what you'd like and let them do their thing. I promise that you will be more than happy with the results! Your newborns may or may not cooperate and it's important to be prepared for that. I had some really specific ideas that I pinned on Pinterest and I was disappointed that we couldn't make some of the things happen, but she captured shots that I never could have dreamed! Anyway, that's just my two cents!

My babies were born at 35W 5D and we had their photos done at 9 days old. A professional photographer should def be able to take care of all the details and props for you!!

I'm a professional maternity and newborn photographer and I always recommend under two weeks if possible. At that time they still retain the natural curve from being coiled up in the womb and are easier to wrap and pose. All they do at the stage is sleep!
