Scary day, on bedrest.

Went to a perinatal yesterday and my cervix measured between 1.8-2 cm. Exactly a week prior it was at 3 cm. The entire day was scary & emotional, as the perinatal did not mince words when telling me what could happen and what would happen if these babies were to be born anytime soon (he basically said they wouldn't have a chance). He then told me to head straight to the hospital and go to L&D to make sure I'm not having contractions. I bawled the entire way there alone & scared. He also told me they no longer recommend cerclages for pregnancies of twins or more so that was not an option (new study came out). Basically he said all I can do is hope it works out. Finally after a few hours in L&D and (thank God) no contractions, my OB came and made me feel much better. She agreed a cerclage is not an option but to go on strict bedrest and that we can try progesterone suppositories although they were also recently not proven to really help for multiples in the same study but that it can't hurt to try. I'm so nervous & worried and I just don't know what to expect. Has anyone else had experience like this before? I could really use some positive stories to keep my hopes up. I don't know what I'll do if something bad were to happen at this point.

Try to relax and think positive thoughts as much as you can. By doing so, you are helping your babies as much as you can. It's going to be alright. Hugs and positive thoughts sent your way!

It sounds like you have a good relationship with your OB. I would follow her advice and try to relax. Bed rest can't be fun. Did they say how long you need to be on it?

No good experience unfortunately, but my thoughts are with you that those babies stay put for awhile longer! Thankfully you're not bleeding and they've put you on bed rest. Just try and take it easy and don't think about it (easier said than done). *hugs*

No experience personally but someone I know was carrying twins and did go on bed rest in the second trimester, which was lifted and then put back on in the middle of the third trimester. Her babies are now four and healthy fun boys! Thoughts and prayers for you and those babies!

No experience either but wishing you all the best and that bed rest helps keep things at bay. I am also pregnant with twins (21 weeks) and worry on a regular basis that my cervix is going to thin out and I am going to go into PTL. Keep us posted! Will be thinking of you.

Good luck! It's good that you aren't having contractions. Try to take it easy as possible. I know bedrest can be miserable, but try to keep your eye on the prize.

I know first hand that the shots do help to thicken the cervix back out as I have had the same issues, but not familiar with the twin aspect. Wouldn't hurt to try! Just take it easy for those precious babies.
