The story and circumstances are so crazy, thabt I immediately want to think it had to be hijacked/terror related. But then usually terrorists want to make a statement and inflict fear on the general public, so maybe not?? I don't know, there are so many scenarios, yet none of it makes any sense. It's all just really sad.
The fact that no group has taken credit yet really makes me doubt the terror idea, too.
The transmitter was turned off just a few minutes after the pilot said his last "goodnight " words. That's not weird?? Like what happened in those 2 minutes?
Guys the cell phone thing is not as suspicious as it seems at first. It's just a normal function of the network attempting to locate the phone. Here's an article from NPR about it.
Also, the ocean is huge. Yes, this plane is also huge but it is still nothing compared to the body of water it most likely crashed into.
I agree with a pp on the passports-- considering the number of people I know in my own personal life who have had their passports stolen from them I assume that people using fake passports for non-terror related travel is more common than we think.
None of this seems like a conspiracy to me, just a tragic thing that happened. We have become accustomed to having ALL THE DATA. Sometimes communication systems fail. It would be a lot easier for me to get on an airplane the next time I need to if I can say, "Oh, that Malaysian plane crash was a terrorist/conspiracy/space aliens." It's a lot harder to get on an airplane knowing that sometimes, even when everything is normal, and the bad guys are not after you, shit gets effed up and your plane crashes.
My conspiracy theory involved Russia wanting to divert attention from the situation in Crimea. I don't actually believe it, but that is the biggest thing I can think of going down that might want media looking the other way.
Here is the latest I read: The plane pinged satellites for hours after transponders were shut off, which is how they have a better idea of where it might have gone down: the last place it 'pinged' was over water (though the article does suggest someone could have disabled that system from the plane)
That's what I thought at first too, but it says image captured at 3:16 am.
I think the theoretically present escape rafts are easier to see at night because they light up.
Thanks though!
you can't see clouds and whitecaps at night, or at least as clearly as I saw them on the images... lol I'm guessing 3:16 was the time from wherever the satelite company is based.
I didn't see any clouds and thought about the time difference too... I could barely make out the white caps.
It could totally be water depth and it could totally be night photos--if they captured photos at different times of day/multiple times we could be looking at the exact same "tile" at two different times--
I think with how far they've had to extend the search, I might be done on that website anyway--that story just keeps getting crazier and my brain is starting to write different scripts/stories/novels for where this is all going/coming from... so I should probably step away.
So crazy. That northern route poses the possibility that it landed seeing as it's over a ton of land. Also curious that the area to the both borders Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan and the two men with stolen passports were Iranian no? Could be mistaken. And last known contact was just after 8am local time which is quite a few hours after takeoff...I seriously hope, if it crashed, that people were peacefully sleeping be that it was a red eye. Feel for those families.
Those are two totally different countries than Iran. Plus, Interpol says that in 2013 alone stolen passports were used to travel literally over a BILLION times so the likelihood that these two are involved is slim to none. Being from Iran doesn't make you a likely terrorist

I don't even know what to hope for anymore because the idea that anyone on board is alive and could be saved seems impossible, but I can't bring myself to hope that they died peacefully if I'm not 100% sure they've died. There are so many places in the scope of time and mileage where the plane could be, it's endless. I agree @reverey that they need to exhaust every single possibility including every person on board from captain to passengers, as well as anyone who missed the flight, never checked in, out baggage on the plane, sold tickets, just everyone.
@reverey I read something not long ago, that officials in Malaysia are insinuating it was the pilot in some kind of political protest (an activisit he supported was sentenced to years in jail the day before)... But comments on the story implied that the government could be scapegoating him.
CNN said the objects appear to be bobbing in the water, so that's good...they won't have to dive down right away to determine if it is debris from the plane. @reverey I'm glad to find someone as obsessed with this case as I am lol

Thanks though! EDT: <<< totally meant this sincerely, not sarcastically--I even have this problem out loud sometimes! I hope no one misunderstood....
