Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Moms of Circumsized Boys

Are any of your boys having a problem with penile adhesion after the circumcision?  We are pushing the skin back with each diaper change, but no matter how often we do it, the pediatrician has to do a painful procedure during each well visit to free the top of his penis from the fatty skin underneath.  He tells us to prevent it we need to push the skin down at every diaper change, but we already are.  I'm starting to wonder if the circumcision was done wrong and if my son will have problems in the future.  Any feedback about this would be appreciated.  Is anyone else dealing with it too?

  • We had this with our son. He is now 17 months and it pretty much corrects itself when he tries to play with himself during bath time or diaper changes.  Here is a good article on it. Most children out grow it.

  • We're dealing with this...part of our issue is that it swelled up after the procedure and is still swollen. I'm calling again on Monday to our pedi because I can't get it back all the way again. We also pull it back every diaper change and put Vaseline or antibiotic ointment on it. Our pedi mentioned he just may need a touch up later in life. Good luck!

  • We pull it back with just about every diaper change and then do a dap of vasoline every few diaper changes. You just want to make sure that you can see the purplish/red ring. Our Pedi said it's common and it usually stops happening after a year.
  • As with the previous posts, every time you pull the skin back, use Vaseline or another ointment that is safe to use.  Our Pedi had to pull the skin back last visit and said this happens with 99% of babies who were circumcised.  Once we started with pulling back every diaper change and using Vaseline we have had no issues.  The Dr. said we need to do that for about 3 weeks and after that its all good.
  • I had to check my LO's circumcision because his pedi never told me to push back the skin. His pedi has checked his circumcision every visit and never said anything, but I noticed yesterday it's reattached. I'm not going to freak out over this cause its just a little, but definitely will ask about it at his 6 month checkup. I did read a bit online that says this usually resolves itself within a year.

  • My DS has a huge fat pad so after his circumcision the head retracted and the foreskin healed over (he can still irinate fine). There was nothing we could do, it was healed in a week. He had to see a pediatric urologist and will need surgery when he's around a year old. Poor guy!

@roo1oo your pedi will fix it when you go in for the 6th month check up. Your LO will cry but he will be fine! Just keep doing it so it doesn't get more stuck! It happened to us too!
  • Thanks so much for the advice, everyone!!!
