Airport travel with LO

In a couple of weeks I am traveling with my 20 month old.  It is only going to be a two hour flight, but I am not sure how to handle the carseat situation.  I am bringing a carseat cause I am renting a car at my destination and don't want to count on the car rental agency not having one available.  So I am putting it in a travel bag, but do I gate check it or not?  Can I gate check the carseat bag and umbrella stroller?

Also, what about taking snacks/food/water through security?

    Baby items are free to check and you can either check them at the gate OR you can check them when you get your boarding pass. It is easier to do that way. They have giant bags for carseats and such.

    Snacks and such are fine. I remember last time I travelled with LO, when I had a bottle with water in it, they "tested" it and then said it was okay after they brought it back. Not sure if they still do that or if you put it in a sippy they would do it, but you can try. If not, you will just have to buy water at the gift shop and put it in LO's sippy, or whatever LO drinks out of.

    You should be able to gate check an umbrella stroller. Ideally, you want to gate check the car seat too, so you know it won't be structurally compromised by it being thrown around by baggage handlers. But you'll want to check with the airline to make sure they're okay with that; I've flown different airlines with different regulations on car seats.

    I haven't had any trouble taking snacks and water through security - they've always just tested the liquid - except once in Japan where they made me drink some of it.

    I recently flew with my kid and you can gate check the seat and umbrella. I would ask at check in to double check but I didn't have a problem. I also brought a portable dvd player and her favorite show. That helped a lot! I also took a few new books and that was exciting for her. I also packed popcorn and a lolipop. They both ate up a good bit of time. I was allowed a sippy full of water and a water bottle through tsa. They did test it but that was ok with me.

    I checked the car seat at the counter. Waaaay easier than messing with carrying that huge thing through the airport! I bought a car seat cover that has some padding on Amazon - it's a JL Childress I think? No issues with gate checking the umbrella stroller.

    I took a sippy of milk with an ice pack and a sippy of water through security on my flight to and from with no issues. I just gave security a heads up and pulled them out to be screened separately.
