I gained HOW MUCH?!?!?

Went to the dr. Yesterday..........8 lbs in 3 weeks.....how is that even possible!?!? And I'm not super swelled anywhere as far as water retention goes, now did I eat a bunch of salty snacks. Please tell me I'm not the only one that is not believing the scale. Ridiculous!

  • Were you better hydrated than the last time you were weighed? Were you wearing heavy clothes and/or shoes? There's so much that can make your weight vary.

  • That was supposed to say nor did I eat salty snacks not now lol. I was wearing the same amount of clothing as always, always take off my boots, and I have my appointment at same time of day each time...and yes, I made sure I pooped like...an hour before :). I'm used to seeing the scale go up and expect it to....just not like that. It was a shocker.....all my hubby did was laugh
  • If I remember correctly one of my pregnancy books (maybe what to expect... but not sure) said its not unusual to gain 2-3 lbs per week in the third tri. so 8lbs over 3 weeks wouldnt be that far off based on that general rule. But again as others have said, as long as your doctor isn't worried/concerned your should be fine.

Thanks...that makes me feel a lil better. I just don't remember this from the last one. I'm not freaked out or not expecting weight gain...duh I'm pregnant....just a little shocked by this one.

Oh, I'm not upset. I've come to terms with my crazy belly. I do think posts like this, ones that throw out a tiny amount of weight gain or a picture of a tiny pregnant lady and complain about it, can really do damage to people who are genuinely struggling with weight gain, either emotionally of physically.

I agree. You're tiny (besides that adorable belly) so I know it wasn't a personal comment. You're just the nicest person in the world, so I would feel awful if i posted this thread and got your comment.

  • Meh, I had gone up 2 lbs since my last appointment but this one was an afternoon appointment so I had literally just destroyed a sandwich and guzzled down a huge gatorade so that I would be able to pee when I got there. I wouldn't worry about the 8 pounds. Your weight fluctuates every day annnnd we're all super pregnant here so weight gain is expected.
Good luck with your final weeks!! Embrace the weight gain!

  • Some weeks I gain less. Some weeks I gain more. Really not concerned as long as the dr isn't.

I obviously had no intent of offending anyone or making them feel bad. Btw I am one of those with the body image problem. I've been obsessed with it and it wears mentally on me constantly. The whole image of tiny cute pregnant lady...not me. However if someone wants to feel bad then go look at how great all the ladies on this board look on that thread. Can't say I wasn't insanely jealous looking through them. I was disappointed because I've been doing so good with my food choices lately. I was actually going more for comraderie between ladies that have been surprised by what the scale said or if it seemed like there was a huge gain when there should. to have been. Sorry for offending anyone that I did. Was not the intent. Oh, I'm not upset. I've come to terms with my crazy belly. • @nstecklein The only thing that matters is that you're staying healthy and making choices that impact your health in a positive way. Try not to be so surprised or upset when you learn that your body is going through a lot of rapid changes during pregnancy - that's part of the deal. I know it's hard to deal with sometimes - I'm at my heaviest right now and it's hard grasping the concept of the dreaded scale and how quickly weight seems to come on. But this whole weight gain thing is relative! Everyone's experience is different. If your doctor isn't concerned, you don't have any reason to be. When you have the baby, make time to exercise if you're concerned about the weight coming off. One of my biggest inspirations is my own mother's story. She gained 80 lbs with my older brother, but with determination, she worked her ass off postpartum and got back into her size 2 jeans and wore a bikini until she was 50 years old. I know it's shocking when weight gain comes on quickly, because I've been there, but you are growing a human being. If you want to worry about the weight, worry about it after your human being is out of your body.

I just want to hug you. For not being snarky first off, th amazing story about your mother ....wow! And the worry about the weight after baby comes out.... That hit home. It's so hard because it seems like everyone that is not pregnant is so judgy about how much you gain or dont

This was me in the first trimester. I was SOOOOO glad to get over that
  • yeah, thats not even cause for concern...trying having 2 weeks in a month where you gained 7-8lbs in a week just from swelling...talk about a freak out...
