@BlackRoses -- I like your response, then you could include a link to an article talking about the recent outbreak in NYC.

    www.cbsnews.com/news/measles-outbreak-in-new-york-city-health-officials-warn/
The thing is, he posted that as a response to someone else who posted that exact article!  I think I need to just take @nobadwriting 's advice and just let him stew in his crazy.  And make sure my pediatrician is ok with my kid hanging out with his kids ahead of time.
So, a previously eradicated disease has an outbreak, and he think it's still a reason not to vaccinate?

    Well, okay then.

Why is left side better than right? I agree that I've been prone to laying on my back now though, as I find it the most comfortable - which is weird, because I've always been a side sleeper.

Also, I think your avatar has changed a couple dozen times. Am I losing it or am I right?

Left is better when pregnant as it puts less pressure on your major blood vessels that help bring blood to & from your heart. It's more important further into pregnancy.

So one of my FB friends is anti-vax and posts about it all the time.  I know I should just block him, but I'm always so tempted to go off on him.  But, I don't think I have enough medically backed knowledge about the subject to get into a full scale debate with him.  I know I should do some research and fire back, but I don't have the energy.

    Here's a sample:
Him: "So if you do the math, in the US you have about a 3.5 billion to 1 chance of catching the measles and dying from it.  Stop the madness"
And I really want to respond with something along the lines of, "That's thanks to all the people who have gotten their vaccines and stopped the spread of the disease, your welcome"
There have now been 2 confirmed cases in my city of kids with measles. The one who originally contracted it had been to the Philippines with his/her family and is totally unvaccinated. Guess what? When s/he started getting sick they went to 3 clinics, the children's hospital and a regular hospital. Now one of his/her unvaccinated classmates has contracted it. I feel bad for the child but TAKE THAT stupid parents who think they know science & medicine better than scientists and doctors.
This is precisely why I vaccinate my kids. When I was 8 my family actually moved to the Philippines within the first couple of months there my sister got measles (and it's not like my mom was anti-vax either). It was hard to watch. I remember us getting shots and boosters frequently especially when returning to the States.
not vaccinating is fine if you are going to live in a bubble your whole life, but with our ability to go anywhere today and people coming here from all over, it's just not possible.

  • But really, it's not dangerous to sleep on your right side. Let's not fear monger here.
Really. I just want to sleep. Don't limit my options more than already!

  • Everyone wants to know the name we have chosen for LO and I have no problem sharing it. Preston. What makes me mad Is when they ask the middle name and I tell them James (after H) and their immediate response is aww little PJ!

Wtf?! No, his name is Preston. We have absolutely no plans to call him PJ and I don't want anyone else calling him that either.
  • Also, my parents had to put down the family dog yesterday and while I'm really upset and sad about it, I'm trying not to dwell on it too much because I know if I let it get to me, I'll be bawling my eyes out for a few hours straight. :(

    I'm really sorry, that's so hard :(

Love this response.  What a surprise?  Kids aren't vaccinated and they get vaccine-preventable diseases!  If it wasn't for all of us who do vaccinate, all these non-vaccinated kids would be in a lot more danger from these diseases.  They are basically taking advantage of all the vaccinated kids to protect their kids.

It would be REALLY hard for me not to comment back on that type of stuff...I'd probably have to unsubscribe from his feed.

I love in Oregon, which is unfortunately one of (if not THE) least vaccinated state in the US. I cringe whenever I see friends posting anti-vac stuff. I also make a mental note to stay away from their kids until my kid gets all his/ her vaccines.

  • I ate a tuna melt with bacon for dinner last night. Mmmmm, mercury and nitrates.
  • I thought of another: we had another ultrasound yesterday and my OB told us last time that he'd probably be able to tell is the sex at the appointment. Unfortunately the baby's cord was between his/her legs, so he couldn't tell. I was way more disappointed then I thought I would be (I originally wanted to be team green). When we got home I spent like 20 minutes online looking for an elective ultrasound place in our area. I didn't find any and gave up. Today I'm totally fine with waiting a few more weeks to find out.

I didn't say it was dangerous or forbidden to right side sleep. It's just better to left side sleep. For reasons stated above. Which makes me feel guilty but not enough to be uncomfortable. And my avatar (is that my picture) changes on it's own. I think? I notice this too. I don't have a computer to upload a real picture on it, nor do I care to. I see no point. I just let my picture do whatever it does.

I want to go with Declan James, and DJ was the first thing my mom mentioned. Yeah, No. Not happening.
DH's favorite boy name is Oliver, and we are using James as a mn after my dad if LO is a boy. I'm trying to ignore the fact that he would be "OJ".

  • Another FFFC: I have never had Jimmy Johns. I saw the post above and we were talking about it at work earlier. We don't have one that's close. H and I are going to the beach this weekend so on our trip we might have to stop for lunch so I can see what all the fuss is about.

  • I can't read any more dog posts. I love dogs, I have a strong opinion about owners commitment to their animals. If your dog is tearing apart your house or freaking out at guests we can't help you - get a trainer. No, you shouldn't commit to a puppy when you'll have a newborn in your house in a few months. Puppies are in the puppy stage for 2-3 years and need a strong training commitment to help them learn to be good dog citizens.

    Then don't read them??

I've had Jimmy Johns, there's one across the street from my work, and I don't get all the fussy.  Maybe because I don't really like sandwiches, but I can take it or leave it.

My confession: I hate Jimmy Johns.  I went there once and wasn't impressed, but then last month everyone on this board was raving about their sandwiches, so I went back and tried it again.  Blah, I couldn't finish it at all.  It was tasteless and they put very little toppings in the sandwich (and I ordered the larger one with more stuff in it - is it called gourmet?).

i ususally love me some Scandal, but these last few episodes are so over the top & the acting is so melodramatic.  Almost every single scene has these intense over-acted exchanges.  I still like the plot, but they need to tone it down.  And all their creative camera angles & horrible clothing trying to disguise Kerry Washington's big old PG belly are annoying too.
I totally agree!! Like when they hide her belly behind a big ol' lamp shade or her big ol' Prada bag is in the foreground!!!

I'm not a fan of their regular subs, but I pay the extra to get it on whole wheat bread and that makes it 100x better. I'm just not a fan of their usual bread.
I don't love Jimmy Johns, but I do love how fast their delivery is. I agree with PP, get the whole wheat bread.
