I myself am newly pregnant with our first so I have not experienced it myself, but I work at Abbott northwestern and at children's In Minneapolis. I have been through the mother baby center and met some of the nursing staff and it seems great! Very new and accommodating rooms.
I think it was good, but it was my first baby.
They have very good lactation consultants, so if you chose to breastfeed and think you might be having problems, get in to see one before you leave the hospital if possible. Although you can always go back and see them later...
You can get you prescription for a breast pump filled right there, but I am pretty sure that they only carry the really ugly Medela pump. I was told that there was a shortage of pumps and that was all that was available. Not true, and I am so mad! I found out later that I could have even gone to Target with a prescription and gotten the pump I wanted.
One other thing: ask for more supplies such as the oh so lovey mesh panties before you leave. I definitely could have used more.
We had a very good experience in November - I had a water birth, and really loved the big tub and the rooms were very nice as well with big TVs and nice sized bathrooms. Overall I was really impressed and the nurses were great. My husband also said the couch that he slept on was actually pretty comfortable.
I was transferred to Mother Baby from Ridgeview in Waconia when my daughter needed heart surgery within 24 hours after birth at Children's. Loved the food. Everything else was ok.
I had a fairly good experience there when I had my son in September. I went in two weeks overdue and did end up with a csection. The staff was great and the rooms were comfortable. The only thing that really upset me was that there were so many visits from staff at the hospital. I realize the nurses needed to check on me frequently, but there were photographers, hospital PR people, lactation consultants, cleaning people. I would have preferred if my one nurse just asked if I needed any of these services. I was completely exhausted when I left the hospital after 2 days (also, felt I should have stayed 3.) Besides that complaint I would definitely deliver there again. Next time I will know to lay down the ground rules from the beginning!
