s/o LinkedIn

I don't partake in social media. I have a dormant facebook account, but that's it. I don't anticipate using it in the future. With that in mind, how necessary is it to have a LinkedIn account for somebody just on their beginning path to a career?

Re: s/o LinkedIn

  • I think it depends on what career field you are in. For me it has mostly been useful in recruiters seeing my profile and reaching out to me.

  • I'm not big in social media (no facebook either), but I do have a linkedin account. I would recommend getting on and start building your network, because you don't want to be scrambling when you go to look for a new job. The stats on number of job offers coming from linkedin is significant enough to invest a little time into it.

  • I think Linkedin is great and people do not use it like other social media at all.
Plus if you really use it, there are tons of other features, you can join professional groups and get great information/contacts, you can follow different groups and 'influencers' and access articles & different things that you probably wouldn't see elsewhere unless you're really into followging blogs & whatnot. If you have a tablet, the app is really nice & you can easily flip through all the different features. I find great stuff on there all the time, in my field & in others that are still applicable.
  • It's a great career networking tool and worth having

  • From the sounds of it, I guess I should get one. I might succumb.
