Five pages and I'm disappointed!
I looked like death after giving birth to my son and the pictures show it. I still won't be bringing makeup though bc I'm out in 4 hours after delivery and I can always throw some on if If feel like it when I get home.
Where are you that you're released 4 hours after birth? That seems very short. Does a nurse come to your home to check up on you a day or so later to make sure the baby and you are still doing ok?
At the birth center I am delivering at, moms and babies can leave as early as 4 hours after birth (assuming everything looks good). A next day check-up is required for mom at the birthing center and for baby at the pediatrician's office- which would be the same as the pediatrician hospital visit.
I want my baby ASAP. I realize that is frowned upon as babies should cook 40 weeks but.. I would be ok with him coming at 37 for sure.
This was going to be my UO as well, but I was too chicken to post it. I think it's because I've had two babies born at 36 weeks and they have been able to come home with us with no NICU time that I would most definitely be ok with this one coming early too.
My UO (and I know it is completely irrational) is that I feel weird about breastfeeding a boy baby and didn't have those feelings about breastfeeding DD. I'm still going to do it, but I'm sure it's a UO to feel differently about breastfeeding depending on the sex of the baby.
If it makes you feel any better, I've heard this from other people too. I've also heard of dads that are not comfortable about changing a little girl's diaper. I think both 'fears' go away when the baby is here. They're so gender neutral when they're tiny.
That's what I think. I'm sure I will feel completely fine about it once he's here.
Someone called for abortion. Okay, so I'm getting really fucking tired of seeing the "Defund Planned Parenthood" memes floating around my Facebook and I'm about to go PSA on everyone when I calm down. I'm so ticked about it right now that I can't stop stammering long enough to start arguing as to why this is so stupid - maybe because it's common sense. If I hadn't had access to Planned Parenthood when I was a poor college student with no health insurance, I may have been pregnant a loooong time ago. They were the only reason I was able to get my yearly exams as well. Defunding Planned Parenthood would just be targeting low-income women and it disgusts me.
edit - oh, and I'm so mad I couldn't even make this relate to abortion. Christian Conservatives want to defund PP because they're the largest abortion provider in the US, even though, as far as I know, there's a law that bars federal funds to pay for abortion services.
Ragey ragey ragey! This pissed me off. This info I'm about to spew is a few years old so it might not be accurate now but, PP actually used private donated funds for their D&Cs not public funding.
Apparently poor people are not allowed to have access to health services either.
Like gluten free? Does your pet have a gluten allergy ( probably not). Then your wasting your money.
Or raw food diets that breeders are pushing on people who buy their puppies. There's a reason we cook our food. Parasites, bacteria... Why exposé yourself, your family and your pet to that?!?
And more than likely it's not a balanced meal the way most people are doing it. ( there are websites to help properly balance a raw diet or prepackaged ones, but most people I see are just feeding whole raw chicken and other meats they get from the butcher.)
There are lots of expensive foods out there and there are a lot of foods that use corn and those work too.
So feed a balanced food that gives your dog a shiny coat and normal bowel movements. Change the food if the dog has problems. ( but it's unlikely a gluten allergy...)
I'm pretty sure they still make caboodles! I really want one now!
I have several vintage ones I purchased of etsy, I use them for art supply storage. They make a great gift for husbands too, lol, what man wouldn't want a peach and mint tackle box for those fishing trips with the guys?
They still make them, but the 80s' and 90's ones were the best!

I know. He'd been raised that way and ate that way his whole life. You almost would have to be. I don't see just deciding to eat raw chicken one day working out out for most people. He kept going on and on about the benefits of raw milk. I don't think raw milk is legal in California. I think he was from Boston of something.
A lot of people are big into the raw milk thing. You can get it from small local dairies, although I can't speak to the legality of it across the country. But taking it to all raw foods is a bit much for me.
I actually prefer unpasteurized cider and milk, but being from NH I actually know the farmers who raise the cows/grow the apples. Raw chicken? Hell no.

I've said this before but judging or side eyeing or whatever isn't the same as caring about what someone does. Everyone judges something or someone, probably more often than we realize, doesn't mean we actually care about said person or action.
I agree, because I am a huge whore for semantics. Caring (to me) suggests you're somehow invested in the outcome of the other person's situation, though not necessarily out of the goodness of your heart. You could "care" because you want the best for someone, or you could "care" because you have an agenda. Judging (to me) is caring's self-centered cousin. You aren't invested in the actual outcome, and it serves no real purpose except to reaffirm your own beliefs (hence why it's often done silently). I definitely do both.

I'd probably try raw milk from my own goats... But not while pregnant. And I do eat sushi... And sometimes medium steak...
But completely raw meat? No way. Especially pork or chicken.
dog breeders can be crazy and make people promise to feed these crazy raw diets when they buy a puppy...
Then the puppy has parasites and chronic diarrhea and they feel guilty wanting to try "gasp" a commercial diet.
I don't get why people wish their loved ones a "happy birthday" on FB if they're umm dead.
And I wear make up. All the time. Having a baby won't change that. I like to live in color, but I really don't care or won't judge someone that doesn't.
What makes any difference between going to their grave site or fb site then? They can't respond either way..
Seriously though, many people don't quit caring because someone has passed away. I think it's a petty thing to point out and you don't need to understand. That's how some people cope.
This. I have a very good friend who took his own life a year ago. People (including myself) stop by his page and comment often, even on his birthday. Yeah, no shit he won't read them but it's more for the friends and family who are grieving. I think it depends on how close you were to the person that passed because I do find it a way to cope.
I hate when people complain about others use of Facebook. If it bugs you so much that Bob posts certain things then just delete his ass or figure out the hiding features. Isn't technology great?
And also with the make up and hair - I can't leave the house without doing mine. But I just don't see it being a priority in the hospital for me so it's not a priority to pack. Who knows though, I've never had a baby before. Maybe I'll feel differently next time.
Yes technology. Like the way I can complain and express my UO Worhout having to hurt feelings on FB or just vent great indeed.
I grew up with raw milk, raw eggs, raw beef and raw veal. In Italy, where food standards are a leeeetle different, it's very much normal. One of the foods I miss the most in pregnancy is definitely carpaccio, I could eat pounds of the stuff.
Also, my favorite treat is braised rabbit kidneys, so I might just be weird about food in general.

Well, 2 things. First off, it's not really a birthday if they've passed away Bc with birthdays you're celebrating a year of life. Secondly, yes, people have different ways of coping it's just weird for me to see birthday posts to someone who doesn't have a FB and isn't alive to see the birthday wishes.
I get what you're saying with "celebrating a year of life" - but just because someone has passed away doesn't mean they no longer have a birthday. We honor people we've lost by remembering dates like that.
I get honoring their memory. I just don't see the point of doing it, publicly.
I'll weigh in on makeup! I prob won't bother for the birth, because I've barely bothered since I got pregnant. Which I feel bad about, because I have all this awesome makeup wasting away. I love makeup but don't use it daily or even often. It's like dress-up to me. I love it and spend way too much money for products that make me happy and make me feel pretty, but wear it seldom and usually feel pretty anyway. Last year I was all about it, this year can't be bothered. I go in cycles and think it shouldn't be overthought. Makeup is fun! It shouldn't be the hinge on which our self-esteem hangs, (if I ever felt like I couldn't hit the grocery without some on I'd probably start rethinking some things) but it also shouldn't be a decisive issue between women.
Also, I haven't worn any in months, but I do a killer smoky eye. I'll come and do all your makeups for the hospital!
This!!!
@Biggerinreallife can you come all the way here and do mine please! I have never mastered the smokey eye, I just look like I fell into a fireplace!

There is a Kangaroo Korp at our local hospital that does this. I know one of the volunteers and she is an amazing woman. Of course, this can only happen when the babies are doing well enough to be held. Parents are always the first choice, but It is wonderful in cases where the parents can't be there all the time.

im a baby cuddler! This more applies to the parents who cant be at the bedside 24/7. Volunteers are great for soothing a fussy baby. Sometimes all the want is to be held and rocked. Would you rather your baby lay in its crib crying? Our hospital volunteers are amazing and literally save my day many times!
I know with the dairy I work at, we cannot dispense raw milk because technically the milk from the farm belongs to the co-op we ship to, so they are responsible for any problems with our farms milk. So I think each co-op has it's own rules, farms that don't ship to co-ops must have some sort of state law to report to about it. Not sure though I want to try raw milk (I've heard it's like a milkshake!) but not while pregnant, definitely from a farm I know and trust, and in a small amount because the human body can't safely go back and forth from pasteurized to unpasteurized. It would make you very sick to all of a sudden switch from one to the other.
Why do my boobs look so good? Then I peed on a stick...
I guess my (very) UO is that I don't understand make up, period.
When men en-mass will feel the need to paint their faces I'll buy that it's not a societal imposition aimed solely at women.
OK, so I posted the original make up post, I would like to add that I actually love make up, and wear it occasionally because it makes me feel good - hence will probably have some lippy and mascara in my handbag when we go in.
I don't think that its a societal imposition, because I do not feel that I HAVE to wear it. I feel that make up is completely my choice, as is how much and often I wear it.
Angel baby June 2013, DD born 22 April 2014, BFP 10 Sept 2015 - Due 22 May 2016
1. I wear makeup about 5 times a year, if that, so there is no way I will be hauling it to the hospital. That said, when I had DS, I had long hair that I was able to braid and it still looked decent after I gave birth. This time I have been growing out a pixie cut, it is now at the awkward stage where it falls into my face, and I can't really do anything with it. I want to keep growing it, but I'm thinking about cutting it again so I don't have to deal with it bugging me while I'm in labor and taking care of a newborn.
2. I had an excess of frozen milk that DS wasn't going to use, so I happily donated it on our local Milk Sharing site. I felt good being able to do that and knowing that a baby was benefiting from my milk. I also plan to pump extra to donate this time to our local milk bank. However, I would rather feed my child formula than actually use milk from one of those informal milk donation sites. Yes, I realize this might make me sound hypocritical, and I don't judge the women who use get milk for their LO's that way.
3. DS is not circumcised. When my brother saw me change his diaper for the first time, he asked why we didn't get him circumcised. I told him our reasoning, and added on that there were so many nerves in the foreskin that sex is supposed to be more pleasurable for intact men. (I honestly don't know where I heard this, but I know I read or saw it somewhere sometime, so it must be true, right?) Anyway, my brother turns to my Mom and asks for his foreskin back!
I love you Twirple!
For those who are getting treatments / massage / facials / haircuts what have you before LO is due, I'm so down with that! I will get my hair cut in my last week of work for the same reason, and I think treatments are a necessity to make us feel human in our last couple of weeks of pregnancy!! Personally I don't think they should be considered a luxury, at this point they are a necessity!

I've been saying for the last 6 months I'd be happy if she came at 38/39 weeks! My mum is coming up the day after she is due and I would really really like to have a week without her... Not that I don't get on with mum, it would just be nice to have that time to just the 3 of us!

No, I wouldn't want my baby laying there crying, but I guess I would want to be asked first. It would freak me out that my baby was being held by someone I didn't know. But on the other hand nurses holding him wouldn't freak me out at all. I just think it's a strange concept...
Ok, back to the donated breast milk thing, sorry. What sorta grosses me out is that breast milk tastes like the foods you eat. Everything you digest gets passed through your Breast milk. This makes it REALLY personal for me. Granted, I'm a vegetarian and clearly have aversions to certain foods so I just look at it differently. That being said, I totally appreciate the use of donated BM and think it's a very good thing when you do have the choice to use it. I just hope to supply my own, not someone's oniony, chili cheese dog flavored kind. I didn't even know donated milk was even a thing till recently though so maybe I'm just getting used to the idea, who knows

This is more an annoyance vs a UO but anyway. It drives me nuts when I'm behind someone in a check out line and they don't get any sort of method of payment out until the last item is scanned. WHAT are they waiting for? Not even a wallet out.
Ugh TP especially to those who not only wait, but then pull out a checkbook. You could at least be filling out the date/store/signature before you get the total. But really IMO, checks have a time and place, and groceries are not something you should be writing checks for.

When I was in L&D clinicals, my favorite thing to do was hangout in the nursery and hold the babies. We had some twins that were there for like a week because they were taken away from their druggy mother. If they would have let me, I would have cuddled and held those sweet babies my entire 12 hour shift!
