I think the number of check-ins is getting to be a bit ridiculous.
Why do we still need to check in every weekday? Why do we need checkins that are redundant? If all the check-ins happen, the entire board is going to be check-ins.
It's ridiculous. We don't need a weekly check-in for every little thing. What, are we going to end up with "moms who run fast", "moms who run slow", moms who walk", "moms who stay at home", "'moms who work part time", "moms who work full time" and on and on and on?
I'm convinced that standard c-section post-op restrictions were written by lawyers, not doctors. I'm ignoring quite a few of them. Really, take my temperature every 2 hours and chart it? For the first month? Um, nah.
This will definitely get me at least side-eyed, but I think the new guidelines to keep a child rear-facing in the car until 2 are absolutely ridiculous. When are we going to stop piling rules and restrictions on top of each other? It seems to get more restrictive every year.
The second part is wrong. Rearfacing regulations aren't ridiculous. I'll share info later.

I don't even understand how a 2+ old is supposed to fit facing rear. We moved both DDs at 1 year (old recs) so I've never had to deal with this. But how do the kids sit? Indian style in their seats? Where do their legs go? Stupid question?
You don't HAVE to keep the child-rearfacing till two. As far as I know there are no laws saying you have to rearface till two in most countries. Switzerland is an exception. The American Academy of Pediatrics made the recommendation, but you don't need to follow it.
It's kind of like the vaccine schedule. They recommend it and it's based on lots of research, but if you want to ignore it you're welcome to do so.
It's addressed in many of those articles, but older kids just cross their legs or let them hang to the side. It's not that tricky, really. DS rearfaced until three months ago and I only turned him because I couldn't get my bump in there anymore.
I plan on holding my baby as much as he wants, sleeping with him for as long as he wants, and nursing or rocking him to sleep whenever he wants. He's my last baby, and I know it won't last forever. People need to stop telling me I should do otherwise.

We kept DD rear facing until she was 2.5. There's huge value in it. The force of impact is reduced by 50% on a child who's sitting rear facing compared to a forward facing child. I've felt like hell after even a minor car accident. I can't tell you how grateful I was that we hadn't turned her yet.
I don't understand the rush to turn them. DD is flipping tall. She's the youngest AND tallest kid in her school and she had no trouble staying rear facing until she'd reached the limitations for that with her seat, and at that point we turned her around. She'd still be rear facing now if it was appropriate with her seat.
And yes, she just sat with her legs bent. Can we not say 'Indian style', though? WTF is that about?
Def didn't mean to offend. I didn't know another way to say it where everyone would know what I was talking about.
I also wasn't questioning the legitimacy of the regulations, I was more asking about the logistics about it from people who had actually done it....since like I said, I had not.
Bent legs never bothered DS1. Even if it were a little uncomfortable, I'd rather that than risk turning him FF. Just because a kid is tall doesn't mean their skeletal structure and muscles are developed to the point of being able to withstand a crash while FF.
I think the ratio for infants to caregivers in the US is reprehensible - I'm told it's 1:6 in most places. I think 1:3 (the ratio in my province) is the absolute maximum I'd be comfortable supporting, and even then I wish it was less.
Im getting tired of reading all the dramatic "omg I'm the worst mother ever" and all they did was clip their baby's skin while clipping their nails... That is definitely not bad mom status.
Our baby boy passed to SIDS on 12/6/12
A gift from Heaven...Our LittleRAINBOWarrived 1/31/14!

1:6?! That's crazy.
Both states in which I've worked in daycare, the ratio has been 1:4 for infants.
@TyrannosaurusLex Yikes - I would want no part of your older ratios! God bless.
Haha I feel the same way, infants and toddlers are my favourite programs! I like preschool too but not with those numbers.
One reason I love DS's daycare so much is that it's on a college campus. So they have professional staff to hit the ratios, and then college students there as student teachers. It ends up being about 1:3 (though the college students don't officially count and must be "supervised"). It still means DS always has someone to read him a book.
When it rains for a few days in a row in always tempted to bring his teacher a beer at pick up time. Because preschoolers indoors for days would make me insane.
I know car stickers are an over used UO but I think it's nuts when parents let their kids put their own stickers (like regular stickers) all over the inside passenger window where the kid sits.
I hate that. So much. It looks dumb and it has to block their vision.
My UO? I don't believe in using birth control. (For myself. Not others.) Condoms, yes. Pullout method, sure. But I absolutely cannot/will not bring myself to be on a pill, patch, shot, IUD. I hate the thought of it and it terrifies me. No one understands why I'm not willing to be on some sort of birth control. And I could have TP the doctor at the hospital who said, "Sex can be resumed once you are on some type of birth control." Who the F are you, doc? What if I'm not interested in it? It's just not for me.
Edited to say that I'm not interested in going all "Michelle Duggar" here. I don't need 19 kids. Haha. I'm most certainly content with just having two for now.
1. I hate white shoes. I don't know why but they all remind me of like 1980, especially white heels. The only exception (that I can think of right now) is the little soft soled baby shoes. because cute!
2. I've noticed that after asking how old DD is, a lot of people look directly to my stomach. why is this necessary?? I guess it's not a UO but I'll forget it by the time the next TP Tuesday comes around.
On the same vein as check-ins, I'm not a fan of the posts for questions on bf and ff. I feel like most don't check in there and we don't get responses. I posted a question a while back and got one response and i know if I had started a thread I would have had more answers, but I didn't want to ruffle feathers so I didn't.
My UO: I don't mind the choice of Ben Affleck as Batman. A lot of people are hating on him, but I have hope that he will do a good job. Generally I like him as an actor.
Also, I did not like Pierce Brosnan as 007. Sean Connery on the other hand...
Oh!!! I have one! I HATED the most recent James Bond film (Skyfall). The villain didn't show up till the film was half over AND he made me think of rotten cookie dough! I can't explain why, just that his demeanor made me sick! I mean, the actor did a GREAT job, obviously, because I'm supposed to hate him, but the character was just so awful in my opinion that I just can't watch it again.

Yep. 1:6 here. And my caregiver is an elderly woman with hip problems. I have trouble chasing one around!

@megash113 That was me both times. Hated every minute of it. No warm fuzziness for me. It felt wierd and let down felt like intense itching. I'm all set with that.

I didn't expect this when he was first cast but Daniel Craig is without a doubt my favourite Bond.
I like the smell of stale milk (formula) on DDs breath when she burps. It is just such a baby smell and I don't know why, but I really like it!
I felt the same way when I started FF DS1. I would tell DH all the time that I loved the way his breath smelled and it would make DH sick. It smelled so sweet to me though.
On the same vein as check-ins, I'm not a fan of the posts for questions on bf and ff. I feel like most don't check in there and we don't get responses. @keags5496 I saw your question! If I had an answer, I would have given it! I hate when questions go unanswered
And I agree about the daily check-ins. I know DS is a special snowflake, but I can't see what he would really have in common, developmentally, with other babies born on Mondays. It makes no sense to me
My UO is that I think it's obnoxious that parents don't do some reading up (I'm not saying read every book ever, but for goodness sakes, some!) on the growth and development of their child. You are raising a tiny human whose psychology and development is different than an adults. Figure out how their brain works so that you can communicate with them better.
This! I just sat through a breast feeding support group that was monopolized by a 20 y.o. FTM with a 2.5 w old LO. She had clearly never read anything about breast feeding, or baby development in general. She was complaining about how her LO wanted to cuddle with her at 5AM and she couldn't understand why he couldn't just go back to sleep. She was also worried about spoiling him by picking him up every time he cried. She said he had to lay in his crib, even if he was awake, so she could get stuff done. X_X X_X X_X
One more UO over here: I absolutely hate the "Baby on Board!" signs people put on cars. I understand that, at one time, they may have been intended to help rescue personnel know a baby is in the car in the case of an accident. However, I don't think that's why most people have them now--it's not a safety thing, it's a "look! I have a baby!" thing. Honestly, do you think I'd just rear end another car carelessly, but, because you have a baby, I'll be a better driver?
Totally agree! I WAS going to ram your mini van, but I guess now I won't.

We gave K's teachers bottles of their favorite vodka for Christmas. Yup, we are the favorites.

Both states in which I've worked in daycare, the ratio has been 1:4 for infants.
I am pretty sure that it is 1:4 in California, at least that is what is it at KinderCare.
ETA: I don't have much experience at all (actually, I have none), but I can't imagine taking care of 4 infants at one time!
It's 1:4 for Illinois as well but it is nearly impossible! I work in the infant room and always have a co-teacher even if we have 3 babies. When 3 babies are all hungry or upset at once, how can one person take care of them properly? It just doesn't work. I agree that all ratios should be adjusted to more reasonable standards. Our ratios are:
Infants (6 weeks to 14 months) 1:4 -Toddlers (15 months to 23 months) 1:5 -Two years 1:8 -Three and 4 years 1:10 -Five years/ school-age 1:20
Luckily my center is small and if we have 8 two year olds we will have 2 staff for sure and another floater to check in on them. It is absurd to think one person can take care of 8 alone.

@keags5496, I agree about the BF and FF threads! I try to check the BFing one every once in awhile just in case someone has asked something I might accidentally have experienced myself. But it's not a very efficient way of asking/answering questions.
I would almost advocate letting the running posts die and having people ask a zillion feeding questions, for 3 reasons:
1. It sometimes doesn't make sense to segregate BF and FF questions. Sometimes it's just a question about feeding, and people may have experience or opinions regardless of how they feed right now.
2. Almost 700 posts in the BF thread, a whole bunch in the FF thread too. Ain't nobody got time for that.
3. Feeding is an important topic really. It's a huge source of stress if you feel like you are all alone or don't know what you're doing or don't have support. This is not weird-ass baby name polls or throwing your own shower; so what if we have a bunch of separate posts?
Agreed. With all outside little ones now, feeding is a HUGE part of our days. For me personally, most of my current questions revolve around pumping right now, so I wasn't sure if they should be asked in the BF thread, but I'm not EPing either. I know there has been some confusion when deciding who belongs where in regards to feeding. I didn't want to post in the wrong place so started a new thread. I'm not sure we need to be broken up in groups (EBF, EP, FF - I don't fit into any of those, I exclusively use breast milk at this point, but it's from both the boob and bottle when pumped).
I defense of the Wednesday Ticker Change, I do it because this is a group of ladies have gotten to know each other and want to continue to see how each other are doing. We know our kids are at different stages. It is just a way for us to keep in touch.
ETA Oh, and Daniel Craig even tops Sean Connery as bond in my eyes, too!
@OTMFL I totally agree with you about the Wednesday group, that's why I have continued to post there. I enjoy reading about how everyone's week has been going because I feel like I have gotten to know everyone in that group better by posting there. I don't know if I will be posting in the Saturday group (when LO was born) because I haven't been involved in that one.
I was late joining this group, but I feel the same way. It's like a precursor to a social group but without the intent to leave people out.
@bribbon, I agree! I am pumping and FF but there's no way I'm combing through those threads to find the two people in the same boat, or ask a question and wait six days for it to be answered.
My UO for today: I wish more posts on F14 were about something other than babies. I know this makes no sense, because it's a BMB, but I am living baby 24 hours a day and am craving other topics.
We took DS on multiple 8+ hour car rides from age 8 months to 2 years, 10 months (when we moved closer to family). He never complained about being sore or tired in the car. He'd leap out and run around at stops without an issue and he'd fall asleep or play quietly in the car seat. He'd have told us if his legs hurt.
The only time he'd complain about his legs in the car was after he sprained both knees-- and he complained about them all the time so it wasn't the car.
It bothers me that there is a newborn questions thread and a dumb questions thread. I never know which to post in since all of my dumb questions are about my newborn.
Also, the ratio here in Georgia is 1:6, I believe.

Agreed! Let's let the giant posts die off.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Those posts seriously overwhelm me, and my version of TB doesn't "bump" stuff to the top when someone comments- is that just me? Also- by the time my LO was born (26th) there was a gazillion pages and I felt weird asking a question without reading to see if it had already been asked. ANYWAY.. I'm glad to know I won't be flamed if I have a question and make a thread.
@megash113 I agree!! I feel like when people ask if I'm nursing and I say no, they just stare and wait for me to explain. I felt like I needed a reason to quit, which is just stupid. even here I feel like I need to explain why I stopped and I honestly feel like a lot of LC's I dealt with caused those feelings. I get that they want to be empowering and I'm all for that, but they need to learn how to do it without being bullies.
I still haven't seen Frozen, but I finally heard "Let It Go" last week, and I don't think it's that great of a song. Not for all the hype it got, anyways.
I was greatly disappointed by Frozen. I don't think it lived up to the hype AT ALL. It was cute and made me giggle, but to be number one at the theater for weeks and weeks and be raved about so much? I must be missing something...
