  • I've been sick for 3 weeks and it's awful...I'm sorry that you are feeling crappy!  My OB okayed plain Sudafed (little red pills behind the counter)- 2 pills every 4-6 hours and plain Tylenol - 2 pills every 4-6 hours.  The Tylenol does nothing for me, but the Sudafed helps with the pressure a little bit.  He also okayed Afrin if I am desperate, but be careful of the rebound congestion!

Just a little advice, if you get a lot worse or if it last a really long time, go to the OB/doctors.  I tried to suck it up for too long and my allergies/sinus infection got so bad that they were forced to put me on an antibiotic and course of steroids yesterday.  They assured me that it was safe, and I got a lecture for letting it go without meds for so long.  I thought I was being a good pregnant lady by trying to deal with it med free, but I just ended up torturing myself and getting even sicker.  Thankfully I am on the mend now.

    Feel better soon!!!

  • I had a terrible sinus infection last week and after 5 days I finally went to the doctor. Started antibiotics and felt a million times better in 2 days.

I've been the same! Been doing nasal irrigation, steaming my face, nasonex, sudafed, prescribed antibiotics and vitamin C. I've been trying but to use as much of the actual meds because I just don't like taking too many when I'm pregnant. So, I've mostly been sticking with the home remedies and antibiotics. Seems to be working at bit.

ETA: I got sick on Monday so, I'm sure I'm in for a few more days of sick fun.
  • I'd been trying to do natural home remedies.  I don't really like to take meds when I'm pregnant.  But nothing was working and I didn't want it to drag on too long.  I finally broke down and took some Sudafed and that helped so much.  Really relieved the pressure and helped things drain out.

I used thermaflu, a nasal rinse, and took a lot of hot, steamy showers. I'd call your ob though just to play it safe.
  • I was sick last week, you have my sympathies! This is the guidelines from my OB... Mild headaches, aches or pains Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Regular or extra strength Call if severe and/or persistent headaches. Nasal congestion, sinusitis, allergies/cold symptoms Sudafed, Ocean Nasal Spray, Benadryl Call if no improvement in 2-3 days or condition worsens. Cough Robitussin (plain, no alcohol) Persistent cough Sore throat, minor irritation Throat lozenges, Cepacol lozenges, Chloroseptic, salt water gargles Severe or persistent sore throat
  • I had an AWFUL sinus infection back in January that landed me in the ER. I got super dehydrated and my face swelled up because my sinuses were so infected/compacted. I got a lecture also, as a PP mentioned, for not bringing it up sooner. I thought it was a silly cold and didn't want to make a big deal.

That is exactly what happened to me, my face got super swollen and I got a red blotchy rash all over my cheeks!  Lesson learned!

    Try vicks for the congestion/stuffiness

    ^This.

The nasal saline spray is epic. I never have mastered the Netti Pot.
