You handled it very well. Abby sounds like an utter delight.
I feel like people think they have carte Blanche when it comes to kids. Since B got his helmet, I have been asked if the baby is dying, if I thought a helmet would help random dude's bunny with a neurological issue and most heartbreaking a mom told her daughter not to look at the disabled baby. There's nothing wrong with our kids. Some adults have major issues though.
Huge throat punches. I'm so sorry you experienced that!
I really hope that was just an especially idiotic moment for that lady and that she realized how insensitive her comment/question was later. I can't imagine making those kinds of assumptions (out loud, especially) about another child, and then to compare with her children? Wow..
I'm sorry that she said those things to you. It's evident from the other mothers' reactions that they never thought such a thing. I bet they were appalled too!
ETA: also, even if your child had "something wrong with her" (as she so eloquently put it), what's with the judgement? Will she not encourage her children to embrace differences and withhold judgement based on such shallow shit? Ughh.. So many kinds of fucked up...
Ew! Sorry you had to deal with that Prim! People never cease to amaze me. Your daughter is perfectly fine, but what if she did have some sort of disability. Is that seriously how she would approach it? What ever happened to tact? I'm so mad for you.
This makes me so sad!!!!!! It is ridiculous that people feel the need to call out others in order to elevate themselves because they are THAT insecure. Kudos to you, Prim, for handling the situation with such grace.
WTF! What is wrong with people. I'm sorry you had to deal with that lady. You held it together better than i would have. Abby is doing great, don't let anyone make you feel otherwise.
Lurking from A13... Some people have no class! As a pediatric SLP, specializing in early intervention, I can assure you that learning to talk has very little to do with intelligence. Every child develops at their own pace and just because they do it early doesn't mean they do it better down the road. Furthermore, what if your child did have a disability?! How rude and inconsiderate to address someone that way.
i'm really late to the party but I would have lost my shit. What is wrong with people?!? Good for you for keeping your cool- people like this is the exact reason we walked by the playground the other day and kept on walking. Your daughter is strong and amazing!!
