Looking for Lovenox buddies!

Re: Looking for Lovenox buddies!

  • They said because of the location and size of my clot that the Heparin isn't strong enough. I'm terrified. I am more terrified of going under general anesthesia if I need a c section!
  • Loading the player...
  • I don't have an active clot and discussed going to heparin or staying on lovenox. My MFM said I could have an epi it would just depend on timing as the anesthesiologist would do one 6 hours after my last heparin dose or 12 hrs after my last lovenox dose. But I was just scheduled for an induction on Friday 2/28 and I have to stop my injections 24 hours prior. Are they not suggesting you stop the shots through labor and delivery?
  • Well, it depends on the timing for me as well. I may be able to get IV heparin after 12 hours of taking the last dose. I just don't know if this is right. I just worry all the time.
  • I plan to let the obs work it out when the time comes :)
  • Don't worry mama! I have two healthy boys (Lovanox/heparin babies) and had two complication free pregnancies/births. Hang in there!
  • Are any of you getting regular blood tests for clotting factor?

Hi Ladies, I'm new here and take Lovenox along with baby aspirin. I'm on 40 mg and started the injections last Monday at 4 weeks. I had 2 miscarriages, so my Dr did blood tests and that's when we found out I have anticardiolipid antibodies. My IgG was 27. Hopefully this is going to get us the baby we've been trying for.

  • Has anyone here seen the new research showing increased risks for blood clots after delivery stretch to 12 weeks not just 6?  I am planning to talk to my doctor on Friday, but I was curious if anyone has been told they will stay on Lovenox for 12 weeks after delivery versus the standard 6.

I've heard about the change to 12 weeks after delivery. That's what my hematologists has changed his recommendation to once I brought the study up to him. He had already heard of it as well. https://news.yahoo.com/high-risk-blood-clots-even-12-weeks-pregnancy-163940326.html

  • My husband pointed me to it last week. Havnt brought it up yet, still far away from delivery :)
  • Hey ladies! Looks like everyone has been busy on here lately. :) Welcome to all the new members! I will have to ask my doctor about this new 12 week period, definitely want to be more safe than sorry. I just went Tuesday for my 10 week check up. All looks great with baby and we even got to see baby wave to us! I had to get more Zofran for my nausea though.. It has been kicking my butt. When did it stop for all of you?
  • I got lucky, I have had no morning sickness in my 19 weeks :)
  • I think mine stopped around 16 or 17 weeks? Unisom really helped me.

  • @Ylvelill I envy you lol. It has been terrible for me. I forgot what it feels like not to feel sick!

@megmegs Is that the over the counter one? I started doubling up on the Zofran since my Dr. said I could take 8mg at once. I haven't puked since my appointment but I still feel like it wants to come up my throat!
  • Yup, just the over the counter unisom sleeptabs.

  • Thanks megmegs, I should give that a try! I am hoping it clears up on it's own soon though.

On another note, I have my NT scan on the 24th this month. What are the chances they will be able to tell gender? I am soooooo curious!
  • An update regarding the 6 week versus 12 week blood clot risk...According to my doctor there is still an elevated risk between 6 and 12 weeks, but it is not much more than the general population and there are more risks with staying on the Lovenox longer (bone density issues, bleeding, etc).  In my case, he wants me on it for 6 weeks and that's it.  Still a very interesting question to ask!!  I am sure different doctors will have different opinions and it will depend on the reason for the Lovenox in the first place.
  • @princessbritt17 - Are they keeping you on Lovenox postpartum? My OB had mentioned that Lovenox wasn't confirmed to be safe if you're breastfeeding, so they were going to switch me to warfarin after birth.

  • Hi all
I haven't been on for a bit because we were busy getting this little guy in to the world. Meet Benjamin Elling DeMoss! He was born on Sunday and is doing great. I was able to have the epidural and was switched back to lovenox for 6 weeks post as the MFM said there was no problem with breast feeding.
  • He's adorable, big congrats!!!

  • To clarify, I didn't mean to imply that lovenox was unsafe for breastfeeding, they just haven't done any research on whether it passes to breast milk (according to the literature that comes with the lovenox). The warfarin paperwork says that it doesn't pass into breast milk, but that study was based on a whopping 15 people.

  • Beautiful!!! Congrats!!!
  • Aww so cute!!!
  • He is beautiful, Congrats!  Yes, I will be staying on Lovenox.  I figure if a specialist tells me it is OK I have to believe them!  Thanks for the info though, I will be sure to specifically ask the question on my next visit!
  • Congratulations! He is so precious!!!
  • Hi everyone! Just found this thread! I'm on 80mg lovenox 2xs a day because I got a spontaneous clot at 8 weeks. No answers with testing..just lucky lol! My MFM has me injecting into stomach and thighs so I have wider variety of areas. Getting less bruising now which is nice. I'm 24 weeks now and we had unrelated scares but little man is doing well.
  • Hey everyone! This is my first post as I am new here along with new to lovenox.

I got pregnant last summer and it ended at 21 weeks due to a blood clot in the placenta. I have no history of clotting or family history so it was a complete shocker.

About 6-7 weeks after we lost the baby the parental doctor had me come in to do testing for antiphospholipid syndrome, the test came back positive but she said the results could be reading from the last pregnancy still and to properly diagnose me she needs 2 positive tests. So 12 weeks later she scheduled me to come back and test again. I did the test and then 3 days later found out I was 4 weeks pregnant!

Doctor said my results came back normal, but seeing I was 4 weeks pregnant it means she can't use the findings to give me an accurate dosage. They started me on low dose of baby asprin as soon as I told them I was pregnant.

Yesterday we had our first ultrasound at 6weeks 5 days and everything looked normal and measured great, she told me afterwards given my history with my last pregnancy she doesn't want to chance it so she put me on 40mg of lovenox 2x a day. The nurse showed me how to inject myself and told me to do the sides of my belly and to avoid the middle. I asked her "how in the heck am I suppose to do this when I get a huge belly?" And laughed and told me "better get creative" - so needless to say I am not looking forward to that ;-)

Doctor did say she wants me to take an extra 600mg of calcium on top of my prenatal and baby asprin, anyone else having to do this? She also said something about possibly omega/fish oil but never told me to do anything with that.

I go back on march 28th to do a follow up ultrasound to make sure baby is on track. She also did tell me she will induce me at 38 weeks or 39 if I ask her to wait. My EDD is 10/29.

I will be kept on lovenox for 6 weeks after baby is here and then she wants me to do screening to confirm antiphospholipid syndrome.

Maybe this is just me being biased but if my results came back normal + at 4 weeks preggo that's a good sign right!? I really hope I don't have this and that my last pregnancy it was just a rare blood clot, but who knows! I gotta stay optimistic :)

I am so glad I have some women to talk to and ask questions! Makes me feel so much better!!

I know nothing helpful about the test :) but welcome.

I find the back of my arms as well as my hips to work as alternate injection spots. I learned quickly to stay away from the middle after a painful u/s when the tech kept rolling over one of my bruises :)
  • Thanks for all the congrats! We are getting use to life together and he is the best thing ever :)
  • Just giving a bump ^^^^^^

  • If all goes according to plan I have 152 more pokes to go! I can't wait for this to be over :)
  • Hi Ladies! I am new to the high risk board and to this thread. I just found out I am pregnant with my second LO. DH and I are soooo excited! I was hospitalized with a PE 10 days after DS was born via C-section. It was at this time that I found out I was hetero for FVL. I will be injecting 40mg of lovenox one time a day. I'm so glad to have found other Mamas to be that are in the same boat!

  • @Ylvelill - I'm glad I'm not the only one counting down exact poke numbers (213 and counting!)

  • Hey all! This is my second pregnancy, so second round with Lovenox. It's been a bit of a bumpy road so far...wasn't planning this one, so freaked out quite a bit at first as I wasn't on my prenatals, or folic acid to start. And because of that didn't start lovenox right away. Haven't been given an actual due date yet, because growth hasn't been super consistent yet, but I think I'm about 7 weeks. Have seen a fetal pole and a small heartbeat so hopeful!

Not really enjoying being back on the daily injections, but know it will be worth it in the end!

@alohamel-my first delivery was without an epidural. I was switched to herapin because I did not have an active clot. I was in your same boat where I would have had to go under if I needed a c-section. Just that thought and the conversations I had with my doctor made me determined to have a natural vaginal delivery! You can do it! Positive vibes your way!
