NBR Missing Plane

Can we do this here? What does everyone think about the plane that went missing out of Malaysia? Between the stolen passports, and reports that cell phones are connecting but not get pit go picked up, I don't know what to think anymore. Thoughts?

@MermaidsMagic‌ there are three possibilities: 1. Pilot error--> crash, 2. Mechanical failure --> crash, or 3. Something terror related. If it's terror related, was it the pilot? The dudes who flew on missing passports? Did the plane crash, or did they land it somewhere in a South East Asian jungle? Were they acting alone or as part of a group? The part of me that is a 9/11 witnessing New Yorker has a bajillion questions. I hate not knowing where those poor people are, especially the two infants.

The story and circumstances are so crazy, that I immediately want to think it had to be hijacked/terror related. But then usually terrorists want to make a statement and inflict fear on the general public, so maybe not?? I don't know, there are so many scenarios, yet none of it makes any sense. It's all just really sad.

Part of my brain (the itty bitty conspiracy theorist part) thinks, the chinese took the plane, landed it somewhere and have everyone captive or something. stealing information from either the plane or a vip passenger we don't know about because it's secret squirrel.

Another (another microscopic part of my brain) part of my brain thought something supernatural/paranormal like Lost... but you know it isn't true.

other than that.. the whole thing is just crazy.

I am glued to this story. My mind is still boggled that this whole plane and all of its passengers just vanished. Honestly, my mind goes to terror immediately, but then I wondered - I read somewhere in all of the articles that stolen passports are a huge business. So, how many people fly with them every day with no terroristic intent? Because unless something like this came up we would really never hear about those specific numbers, right?

Obviously, I am hoping for the best, but I just don't know what to think.

I'm obsessed. Like a PP said, I'm a 9-11 witnessing New Yorker. I go to terrorism immediately . Seems pretty unreal that if it crashed there would be NO SIGN.

Didn't hear about cell phone reports before today. That is crazy!

This is crazy to me. I have been followin since the morning after it happened. I think it's even more crazy that not one person I know has talked about it or posted about it on fb. This is crazy. I think it is terrorist. No other explanation.

What I don't get about the two Iranian men with the stolen passports is that they don't think one of them is linked to terrorism (not sure about the other) because his mom was "waiting for him" in Frankfurt.

Uh, what? Maybe he didn't tell her if he had a sinister plan?

I was under the impression that planes cannot turn off their communication - not every single communication. if it went completely dark - I think it blew up / crashed. Perhaps it crashed into some water, because I think they would have found some kind of debris somewhere otherwise. Didn't that Air France flight take 2 years to find ( not sure but I thought it did).

The passports thing is suspicious - but I wonder how often that really happens. If this was a terror attack - it's the worst one ever. Not just because the whole plane went down - but no one knows why, or who, so if they were making a point - what was the point?

My husband was toying with the idea that it was a hit - that perhaps the guys on the plane were sent there to make sure it crashes to kill a specific passenger ( sort of a suicide mission)..... who knows...

They discovered the identities of the two men with stolen passports and have been doing extensive background checks - nothing they can find ties them to any terrorist groups and they both have clean backgrounds. I don't think they cleared anyone because "his mom was waiting for him", rather they see him as having a reason to travel where he was going and nothing else is linking him to anything terror related.

And what I just read stated that several countries, US included, are ruling out terrorism.

So the passport thing is odd...but if it was terrorism, why hasn't a group claimed responsibility? Was it just those two crazy people? I'm thinking crash...

What about the 5 people they said were on the plane, but then got off and their luggage was removed? If these 5 people went as far as to have their luggage on the plane only to change their minds last minute, what made them get off and where are they now? I think this is a little gem of evidence not being shared with the media

Also a side note... From the information we have been given, 239 people were on the plane including the crew. When the news listed all the nationalities of the passengers, that list only adds up to 200. What about the nationalities of the remaining 39?

The whole thing is insane.

My DH also thinks that the plane was hijacked and landed somewhere for information. My Mom suggested North Korea (but was kidding.)

I honestly think it malfunctioned and crashed in the sea. A 777 is HUGE. The jets are HUGE. Maybe there was a mechanical explosion that pretty much disinigrated it? In the past, it has taken days and sometimes weeks to find wreckage. I think it's only a matter of time...

I honestly hope, if it did crash, that the occupants felt no pain.

My understanding was those people didn't show up for the flight at all, so there was no unaccompanied luggage to remove. I could be wrong though. I am reading articles, I haven't watched any news on tv, and some of the articles are kind of hard to follow.

The jet door was a dead end - they haven't found any wreckage.

New info: Apparently the jet was 100 miles off it's normal course....

Now I'm leaning towards terrorism again...

What if America has something to do with it!?

My mother in law is a huge conspiracy theory person and thinks America is out to get everyone. I'm surprised she hasn't suggested this.

My mom thought maybe it was that one guy (I'm horrible with what's going on in the world) from China or somewhere wvwryone is having problems with. That he just sent a missel at it. She also says prolly not because he is the type that would brag about it.

It was still climbing to its highest altitude so I feel we would have found something if it blew up as soon as it went off the grid.

TheresaKraf - would it be possible for someone to "snip a cable" or somehow stop the plane from being visible? Is there something you can do in the cockpit to no longer be traceable to air traffic control or satellites?

@Groxb - Negative. When I am flying sometimes I get told that there's an aircraft that ATC isn't talking to, at my 1 o'clock and 3 miles same altitude and when I look over, it's a flock of birds. It would still show up as a "blip on the radar" as they call it. Something as large as the aircraft would still show on the radar.

Why did they just now release that the plane was hundreds of miles off course? Did they just figure this out or was it just not released until now? FYI I'm getting my info from cnn.com since I'm at work lol

I think if it was terrorists someone would have claimed responsibility.

Why would the pilots have the ability to turn off the transponder, that I definitely don't get. Is there a reason they would ever want to?

I'm interested to know more about the whole invites into the cockpit scenario - Because yesterday morning, the official information website for the missing aircraft set up by the Airlines released a statement regarding the first officer and those allegations. Yet CNN still went with their story. So who is telling the truth or who is covering something up? So many puzzle pieces. They also mentioned that there are about 8 nations involved with the SAR. Yet we are on day 5 and still no trace of wreckage? With 8 nations searching!? I don't like it.

So many people are doing this the site keeps crashing. I read one guy found what looks like a plane but never heard anything past his picture. Either he was a fraud or the people are taking him seriously. My husband told me to do this because I'm totally into this lol

Yep Indian Ocean now. They just showed and talked about some of the people on the plane and I was in tears. So sad. One guy left his ring and something else win his wife and told her to give it to their sons if something were to happen

No way, I disagree. Think about it: You've got 12 or 13 nations using billions in resources searching for a single needle in about 13039429 haystacks. They are pulling boats and planes from military bases in the area, leaving those bases more vulnerable. Perhaps the fact no one has come forward yet is an attempt to get as many people distracted as possible before something bigger happens.
