Re: Which Medela pump do you recommend?

  • I have the pump in style as that was what my insurance pays for. I really don't know anything about the others though.

  • Wait is the advanced and the pump in style advanced different? I had a Pisa with DS and it was great the entire 9 months I pumped which was 3-4 times a day 5 days a week. My insurance doesn't cover one so I'm just going to continue to use it when I need to this time.

  • Ooh, I didn't realize the Advanced and the PISA were the same...... This is info on the website info I'm ordering off of and it makes it seem like they're different:

    Advanced Personal Double Pump

    Product Description:

The Medela Advanced Personal Double pump offers 2-Phase Expression technology which is proven to get more milk in less time when pumping at maximum comfort vacuum in the expression phase.  The one touch let-down button allows moms to toggle between stimulation and expression phases.  Adjustable vacuum settings let mom choose her most comfortable pumping settings.  All in one tan shoulder bag with integrated motor unit and insulated cooler.

    Product Contents:

Includes (4) 150ml breastmilk bottles and solid lids, double pumping kit with (2) 24mm breastshields, (1) A/C adaptor, (3) ice packs and (1) instructions for use in English and Spanish.

If your plan covers the Advanced Double Breast Pump (ADBP) but you want to “upgrade” to a retail Pump in Style or Freestyle pump, SunMED will assist you in obtaining the pump you desire at less than retail cost, and without having to submit the insurance claim yourself.

    Freestyle

    • Innovative: small, lightweight and quiet, to make daily expression as comfortable and natural as possible.
    • Comfortable: individually adjustable vacuum settings, as well as memory function offers the highest degree of comfort.
    • Complete control: a display shows all the relevant information.
Support of milk supply: double pumping can help to increase and sustain milk supply.

  • If you can rent a symphony they are amazing. It's a hospital grade pump and although it's kind of bulky, it is crazy fast to use. My ins covers 100% of a rental so I go that route as opposed to buying.
  • I have the advanced personal double breast pump. Love it. But I don't know anything else.
  • Only thing I saw different between PIS and the advanced was the advanced had a beige/brown tote and the PIS was their black tote retail version yet insurance charged a $50 upcharge for this. I ended up getting the freestyle ($150 upcharge through my insurance), but needed the portability aspect as I will go back to work after 3 or 4 months and often drive to client meetings so never know when and where I will be pumping..
  • Freestyle for the portability factor and no a/c adapter needed if it's charged.

    This exactly

Eta - I rented the symphony first because I had a late preterm baby and I knew I'd have to wait on one from my insurance anyway. I don't see a difference in output, but the advanced double is much louder.
