Cause for concern?

I just wanted too see if any of you ladies have had some of the things happen to you like they happened to me and and maybe if I should be concerned.
Here we go; About 3 weeks ago I had an asthma attack which I haven't had one for a good 21/2 years , so that alone freaked me out. It came on pretty quickly and I wasn't doing any activity at the time , I was actually laying down with my son. Lasted about 5-8 minutes then it was gone. The next day at around the same time I had the asthma attack (which struck me as super weird) I had gotten this horrible sharp pains in my chest, it wasn't on either side it was right in the middle., and I could feel that same sharp pain in my upper back. It was a little hard for me to breathe and was worse when I tried inhaling. But again I wasn't doing anything at all just sitting down. That lasted about 25 min and then was gone. So fast forward to Saturday , I had been having BH all day off and on,at around 7pm I took my DD to the carnival to get out of the house for a little bit. All was well except I started getting a really sharp pain every time I moved in my lower abdomen on my right side, also with more intense BH. We stayed for about 2 hrs and then came home where I used the restroom and it's like I couldn't even tell I went pee, like the amount of blood in my urine was just horrific. That happened 3x in a row that I had to use the bathroom. I was still having BH throughout the night probably 6/HR. Now Sunday I woke up with pains in my abdomen and BH, instead of staying home I went grocery shopping because there was no food in house and my Dh was working. As I'm walking I pretty much feel like passing out but I make it through and get everything I needed( BH still going on) and I go home. I'm sitting on the floor taking the groceries out of the bags and my vision starts getting blurry then about 5min into that I can't anything out of my left eye! Like complete darkness, nothing! That's happened before so I could deal but then my hands started feeling really tingly and started shaking uncontrollably, and then my face gets that same tingly feeling, even my tongue!!!! And that freaked me the hell out ! I have never felt that and idk I just wanted to see if any of you ladies think I should call my OB or go into the hospital or just rest up and let it go? I'm sorry this is so long!
Thanks in  advance for any advice :)

Re: Cause for concern?

  • I'd definitely call your OB and see what they have to say. You should always report extended cramping to your OB as well as any vision and breathing issues.

  • Yes, you should call. 1) blood in urine is NOT normal. Period. It could be a sign of several things, that if untreated could have some horrible issues. 2) My Dr told me to call if I had two or more hours of 6 contraction per hour (or more). 3) any significant vision changes should also be reported.

Why did you have all this for several days and not thing of calling/going in? Didn't your Ob give you a lit of reasons to call/go in?

As for the asthma, pregnancy is weird with chronic conditions from asthma. It could be something, or just be pregnancy.
I tried going in but thanks to their new policy I couldn't be seen because I just recently lost my ID and now that + your insurance card must be brought to every visit or they just won't see you !
  • What does losing your insurance card have anything to do with calling the On-Call on Saturday and Sunday when this happened?
I actually didn't even think about the on-call................ I just kept thinking " Crap it's Sunday"

    Brain Fart!
  • Since you can't go back in time and call or be seen sooner, call NOW!

  • I would have been at L&D awhile ago...
  • I think the blood in the urine was enough cause to call or go to L&D. Add the vision in, and ABSOLUTELY, go to the hospital!

  • Any one of those issues would have told me to seek medical treatment. I'm a bit beside that you have been ignoring all of this. If you can't reach your medical office or get in, then go to the emergency room. Take care of you and your health now. Billing can be sorted out later. Seriously!

  • andplusalso, they should have your insurance information on file regardless if you have to have your card at every visit. If it was as much of an emergency as it sounds like you should have been seen by a doctor
  • I am going into the ER, just have to find a babysitter, thank you ladies for the advice I know I made a mistake at waiting for so long but with you ladies here I know I can count on to give me a push and make me see things clearer :) thank you !
  • Wow. Well, glad to hear you're finally going in at least. In the future, call your doc for any one of these symptoms, no matter the time of day. The on call doc will get back to you and tell you what to do. Don't wait for a push from TB....

  • Are you on your way in already? If not, take your kids with you. Call your husband out of work and have him meet you at the hospital.

  • You seriously have had blood in your urine, tingling in your face, had temporary vision changes, sharp abdominal pain and ongoing BH and you havent gone in???

You realize that some of those symptoms are also symptoms of pre-e, which can be DEADLY for both you and baby, right? Get your behind to L&D or at least the ER immediately, please...insurance be damned!

Even if it isnt pre-e, it could be something that if untreated could lead to PTL and a stay in the NICU...and there can be life long repurcussions for coming this early for your kid.

    Please. Go get checked. Now.

  • I have to agree with the PP's saying MUD - I cannot comprehend that someone would deal with these symptoms for DAYS and not go into the ER.

  • Is this serious? You're having these issues and choose to consult TB instead of your OB? Really???

Glad you're finally getting to the ER but good Lord....just wow.
  • Add me to the MUD train!!  This is just plain crazy.

  • There is no way this is real. I read it now -- twice. It just cannot be possible that a woman would risk her own life and the life of her unborn child by not immediately seeking medical attention for these symptoms. Come on. image

  • I highly doubt your OB would have told you that you were SOL with regards to being seen just because you don't have whatever card you lost.  That's malpractice waiting to happen.

    Second of all..
Can you update please? I am actually concerned. A few weeks ago I had
some of the same symptoms (minus the blood in my urine) and when I didn't feel better by the end of the day I went to L&D. The Midwife basically called me an idiot but I am glad I went (after venting on TheBump about the Midwife making me feel stupid). I really hope you and the baby are OK.

Honestly, if you feel something is not right then call your doctor/midwife. After all, they are there to help you have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

  • I'n just gonna make this super short since I'm typing through tears, and would not like to go into detail at this point in time. I lost the baby, and had a cesarean to remove it. Thank you ladies for the advice and I wish all of you healthy pregnancies and healthy babies . Good night
  • Very sorry for your loss.
