Re: Di Di twin moms...did you see a perinatalogist?

  • Once we found out we were having twins my OB referred us to MFM for the remainder of my pregnancy. We also had Di Di twins.

I saw an MFM at the beginning, for my NT scan. But because my twins are di/di he didn't see the point in seeing me still, even with my loss history. I'll be seeing my OB more often and I'm having ultrasounds every 4 weeks, so I'm definitely getting a lot more and better care b/c they're twins, but there's no need to see the specialist.

ETA: My OB is definitely not treating me the same as she did with DD. When I lost my twins, the OB I saw was awful and acted like twins = singleton which isn't true. You may not need to see an added specialist on top of your OB, but at least make sure your OB treats you as high risk.

Yes, I did. I saw them for the first time for the NT scan at 12w2d and then started seeing them every 3-4 weeks, depending on when my husband was able to get the time off, at 20w2d when we had the anatomy scan. I also saw my regular OBGYN and she is the one that delivered me.

  • Just had my 8 week appointment today and found out that I will be comanaged by a perinatalogist, basically alternating appointments every 2 weeks with my OB and the Peri, starting with my nt scan at 12 weeks.

  • Thanks ladies! After talking with a few people and reading your responses, I am meeting with a different OB on Monday. Hopefully they have better answers that make me feel more comfortable.

  • From what I understand (and we're new to this game, still having graduated from the RE yet!) -- our midwife will refer us to the MFM/high-risk OB for consults starting in the middle of the 2nd tri.   We will continue to meet with the MW until then, and for regular monitoring, but the MFM will do the higher level ultrasounds, fetal echo, and who knows what else.

For us, we had already planned and chosen a MW when we anticipated we would be having a singleton, and I have a relationship with many of the MWs at the practice we'll be with.  They also have hospital privileges at the hospital we will be delivering at --- so it felt like one of the better way for us to get more support in pregnancy, birth and post-partum was to stay with the MW and let them handle the consults as needed.
