Headache Relief?

Over the past week or so I have had headaches that are lasting hours. I try having a snack hoping it helps but I get no relief. I want to avoid any medication, even those deemed safe for Baby. Do you ladies have any suggestions of things I could do to help? The worst is when I get one in the middle of my work day (I'm a 6th grade teacher so they happen frequently).

Re: Headache Relief?

  • Rub your temples?

Beware if you are looking for "natural remedies" such as herbs, essential oils, etc. Some of them are far less safe than just taking Tylenol.

  • I'm a teacher as well and frequently get headaches too. I occasionally take tylenol just to help me get through the rest of the day, and then lay in a dark room with an ice pack on my head when I get home. Good luck!

Make sure you check your blood pressure. Debilitating headaches can be a sign of complications, but not usually until after 20 weeks.

Call your OB both for relief and questions. I'm sure it's a regular migraine/headache but better safe than sorry.

Make sure you're staying hydrated.  Could you be having caffeine withdrawal?  I don't know if you're drinking caffeine, but sometimes having a little can help with headaches.  If you look at OTC medications like excedrin, they add in caffeine because it can help relieve headaches.

  • I haven't been drinking caffeine. I never really did before my pregnancy either. I have an appointment coming up so I will definitely talk to my doctor. I've also messed up my sleep pattern by napping too much so I am trying to battle though. Pregnancy is definitely not rainbows and butterflies lol
  • caffeine is the only thing that takes the edge off for me.
