Hi all,
You may remember my protein count in my 24 hr urine was off the charts, so they had me come in for a NST. Thinking i would go home after the test, DH and I leisurely made our way to the hospital.
Well, baby looked good on the monitor, but my blood pressure was crazy high. They didn't even offer to induce...(this is my fruits and nuts natural childbirth midwife saying I needed to have a c section).
It happened so fast, because my labs for my pre-eclampsia kept having worse and worse results.
At 7:17 pm 3/7, Catherine Marie was born. The c section was my biggest fear, and although I wasn't able to squat in a field of daisies epidural free like I wanted to, I feel really empowered and strong that I faced a fear and me and baby are fine.
That being said, recovery sucks so far. C section was fri night, it is now Sunday morning. I'm finally off of the magnesium sulfate (to prevent seizures), and the catheter is out. But standing up and walking to the bathroom?! OMG. Any other c section Momas please chime in with any advice. They're going to have me walking around as much as possible today, apparently.
Breastfeeding is going ok. Sometimes it's great and sometimes not. My body seems to be in the "holy crap you almost died" recovery phase and my nipples and colostrum aren't really cooperating yet. Her birth weight was 9 lbs 1 oz 23 in long and she's down to 8 lbs 6 oz, so they will probably have me supplement soon (with the little syringe that takes a line to my nipple).
Ok this got way too long but I appreciate all the advice and laughs and commiseration we've had the past few months and hope it will continue. Anyone with any tips on the c section recovery please let me know. Now for all that, pics!
UPDATE:
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am finally home 6 days PP because they couldn't get my high BP regulated enough to discharge me. This was extremely frustrating as my BP throughout pregnancy was perfect. Stupid pre-e.
For those posters scared of a c section, yeah, it was scary. But during it was all mental and me wanting to be strong and get the baby out safely. I walked into the OR and they gave me a spinal to numb. This did not hurt, even for someone like me scared of needles. Just a little sting. They laid me back and I immediately threw up, but they had an air suction machine straw like at the dentist to keep that from being an issue. Then my hubby came in and they had already started to cut me open. I felt a little pressure near my ribs as they were pushing her out, but I didn't even know they had opened me yet! I thought they were still pinch testing to make sure the spinal worked. Baby came out screaming before they even had her body out. She screamed bloody murder and my midwife demanded S2S and as soon as she was on my chest she stopped crying. It was beautiful.
Recovery especially with the mag sulf sucked those first few days, and breastfeeding has been hard.
I am home now though and feel so much better. BP is still acting up but is being controlled with medicine. Pumping is successful, breastfeeding needs work but I'm getting help.
Thanks everyone vas congrats to other new Momas!

Re: Sopranoali has her baby girl (UPDATE)
Yes, c sections suck, but my advice to you (I'm 6 days post CS) is move around as much as possible. I had no choice- my baby was in NICU so if I wanted to touch his face, I had to get up from the wheelchair and walk over to him numerous times per day. I swear that's why I'm feeling so good now. Mine has started getting a little sore again but I think it's bc it's time for my staples to be removed tomorrow and my body is beginning to reject them
As far as the c section goes, stay on top of the pain meds and do the walking. It does get better!

Sorry about all the physical pain you're going through. Walking really is the best thing for recovery.
Also sorry I can't lovetit your post!!!!! Stupid Bump.
I was planning a non-medicated birth center birth and developed preeclampsia. Im typically a complete wuss when it comes to pain, but found that my mental state was incredibly empowering. Set goals, tell yourself you are strong and believe it! That will go a long way. Best wishes!

As for the bfing, your milk will come in eventually too, you're doing great! I think mine came in the last day in the hospital. The whole first day they had to give did formula because I was so out of it. Then they had me pump at every feeding and feed her what I got from that right after. Don't worry much about the weight loss. I have heard that breastfed babies do tend to lose more in those first couple of days. Hang in there - you've got.it
Eta: even though I didn't walk much at the hospital I probably should have pushed myself a LITTLE more.
I had also planned a med-free birth center birth for DD and had a CS at 36w due to HELLP w/ no option for induction - it definitely sucks but you did what's best for yourself and your daughter and I'm sure when you have #2 you'll have a really supportive midwife helping you have your vbac squatting in a field of daisies
