Hi, we had an 8 week ultrasound yesterday and also met with the OB. Our Di Di twins look great I asked if I should set up an appointment with a perinatalogist for the 12 week NT scan or A/S and he doesn't think it is necessary bc these twins are the lowest risk. Did any of you with Di Di twins see a perinatalogist?

Yes, once but one reviews my growth ultrasounds every time it get them and one will do my NST next week. I know my OB is in touch with them frequently.
My OBs don't consider me high risk even though I am 40 and have a history of high blood pressure. I will start going every other week to the OB once I hit 25 weeks and I do get a U/S at every visit but no MFM or peri neonatologist.
Yes. I've had 2 appointments with the MFM and she views my monthly growth scans (quickly before I leave and then more in depth after). They've called me later when theyve wanted to talk about something they saw on the scan.

I saw an MFM for cervical checks and growth ultra sounds as well as NT and anatomy scan. The equipment they had was much more sophisticated than my regular OB's office.

Yes...My OB sends all twins to one...so I saw them for a scan at 10 weeks...and then an intro appointment...my AS was done there, and my growth scans will be done there. I was also told I would have later monitoring done there versus the OB...I only see the doctor once every other month for right now (22 weeks), but if I develop any complications, I will see him more. I see my OB every 4 weeks right now. Definitely do not mind the extra monitoring, and I think the scans at the MFM are better quality than at the OBs office since I have had both done.
Yes, once every 4 weeks. The twins and I have been doing great, 100% healthy with no complications so far. I will still see him regularly for the rest of my pregnancy.
I went to the peri center for my 12 week scan, and for monitoring (NST and fluid checks) weekly at the end. I was on a high-risk schedule with my OB, monthly u/s, etc. Things went well for us, and I felt like I was in good hands. If we had had any concerns, we would have been referred.

I don't really "see" the doctor much but the MFM did my NT scan and I saw them for a level 2 US/consult @ 22 weeks. They also read my 17 week scan and will do the official reads on my growth scans. Otherwise, they just made their recommendations (growth scans, NSTs, etc) to my OB and she'll manage from there unless things drastically change.
No but the mfm reviews all my scans and I've been followed by my reproductive immunologist the whole time.

I have di-di girls and have seen an MFM every two weeks for cervical ultrasounds (with growth scans every four weeks) since 12 weeks. I really only see them for the u/s itself, but I go to u/s exclusively with the MFM, and main appointments with my OB. It seems excessive, but it is standard practice with my OBs.
I have my primary pregnancy care with an OB and have the monthly growth scans/cervical checks with a MFM. They review the scans and then send the OB a report with their findings. I see the OB every 4 wks right now as well as the MFM, although after this last scan they wanted me back in 3 wks instead of 4, so I feel I'm being adequately monitored & cared for. My OB has put in orders with the MFM for scans up to 36 wks. My OB had said at my last appt if the MFM found it necessary, they would do sddn'l thing such as dopplers, etc.

Kind of - same as some PPs. I saw my OB monthly and since they don't do u/s in house, I went to an MFM for those, also monthly.
One MFM told me that there really isn't much reason for di/di to go through all the extra high-risk hoops, but that they do it just to be extra cautious.
I didn't see one specifically, but I did go to an office that is part of the hospital and delivers many of the twins/triplets in our area. An MFM did look at each of our ultrasounds and consult with the OB.
Nope! My OB does not consider me high risk. I am 36 with a prior loss. I get a the regular routing screening. Nothing extra. I am a little confused that I not have a fetal echo when I see that so many other IVF moms are. I guess I am in a constant state of fear that something will be missed! FWIW: I LOVE and trust my OB
Me:35, DH: 39
TTC since March 2011. All bloodword, SA & HSG are normal.
I saw an MFM exclusively, but I delivered with the on-call OB at the hospital. My MFM happened to be on call that day but I didn't see him until after I delivered and he was able to check on me the next day as well. I liked being an MFM patient because I felt like I got a higher level of attention from the nurses/residents, etc. in L&D.

Ob regularly MFM for monthly scans and my OB consulted with her (MFM) for steroid shots, PTL med adjustments, pree, and finally he looked to her for approval before scheduling a csection. I think it's great to have them collaborate with your primary OB a second set of eyes never hurts!!!
Yes, my OB lists me as high risk due to my di/di boys. I have had a VERY uneventful pregnancy but still see an MFM once a month, she did and does cervical checks at every OB appt starting at 12 w. I saw her 2 times a month after 26w, and once a week after 32w. I haven't had any complications but my OB takes twins very seriously (I love her). I will also deliever in the OR when it is time.

My OB and the MFM department work in conjunction with one another. I saw my OB once per month until 24 weeks and now am on a twice per month schedule with them. The MFM dept did the NT scan and A/S and they review my monthly growth scans.
No. However my OB is one if the oldest practicing ones in my area and does a lot of twin and high risk pregnancies. I don't see anybody but him. I get a full growth u/s at every appt and a cervix check. I believe starting after 30 weeks I will have an appt every two weeks with u/s and NSTs. Di/di are the lowest risk but all multiples are considered a risk. If you don't feel comfortable with your OB and their decisions, you might want to look for another IMO

@ashb62, what does a high risk schedule look like for you? I was told I will come back for the 12 week scan and appt, then once a month until 28 weeks when I will go every two weeks, then once a week at the end. He seems very non-concerned about twins and doesn't seem to think I am high-risk at all.

With Di/Di you are still at greater risk for everything a normal pregnancy could be at risk for. I had very few issues with my two singleton pregnancies (just a rare form of OHSS), but my Di/Di twins resulted in both GD and Pre-E. Twins of any kind are a high risk for complications. I would not want to stay with a doctor who didn't want me to see a peri for twins regardless of chorionicity.
*Spontaneous* OHSS diagnosed 08.06.2012 Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013
No I didn't see a MFM. My OB has lots of experience with high risk and twins. After 20 weeks I was seen once every two weeks. Before that anytime I had an issue they got me right in.
I saw someone mention a Fetal Echo...I have no idea what that is. I'm an IVF mom and I never got one!
I really think it depends on how you feel with your OB. If he/she feels confident they handle it and you feel confident than I don't think it's necessary. I really trusted my OB and felt good with everything. I only had two ultrasounds in my 2nd and 3rd trimester.
Oh and for what it's worth, my level 2 scan and consult was not because of the twins but because of my clotting disorder and history- I'd have had it with a singleton too, same for the NSTs.
Yes, though not separately. I was at a high-risk OB practice and they never told me I needed to see one, but there was one in the practice and I saw him in my rotation along with all the OBs.
Oh and ITO schedule, I went every 4 weeks until 28w, then went at 30, then once a week after that. I had a di/di pregnancy with no complications. I got a u/s at every visit throughout. In the third tri I would get a BPP at every visit and a growth scan at every other u/s.
OBs who treat twin pregnancies the same as singleton or say that di-di pregnancies aren't really high-risk make me nervous.
