DD1 did a soccer program when she was 2. It was really cute and mostly skills based. They never actually tried to play a soccer game. She now does a soccer program that comes to daycare once a week. DD2 has been asking if she can also do it. I'm going to check to see how old she needs to be. I do plan to sign DD2 up for dance class in the fall. DD1 started at the same age and loves it. I know DD2 will love it too. They both dance all over the house.

I haven't seen any around here until they turn 3. I was going to sign DS up for soccer next year, I hope he likes it, he already dribbles the ball but his name is Beckham

I'd say go for it, he would just get some energy out anyway!

As long as it's low pressure, go for it! I signed ds1 up last year since my sil's boys were playing and he wants to do everything they do. He had just turned 3, and he was the youngest player out there. Their teams ran from 3-5 years old ( we are from a very small town and there just wasn't that many people per team to make the age gap any less, and he was the only 3 year old signed up). They had practice once a week and games twice a week. The practices included drills and things that were just plainly over his head. He tried, but didn't get the whole idea down. The games were very competitive, and a parent actually got kicked out of the second game for being so unruly and rude to the kids on our team! It was crazy. By the third week, ds1 asked to not go back. He didn't like it and the other kids were quite nasty when he 'messed up a play'. It left a bad taste in my mouth for the whole thing. I didn't take him back. I wasn't too happy about the whole 'allowing him to quit when something is hard' lesson, but it just wasn't a comfortable setting for any of us. I think if they were all the same age, it would be fine. And it should be fun. It sounds like your league is way more laid back and good for the kids. This small town drama league full of hyper competitive kids and power hungry mothers was not for me

I say sign him up if it's just to get to know more people and have fun. Don't expect any real soccer from it and just enjoy :-)

Do it!

We'll be doing soccer in the fall and plan to get him on ice skates this month. He's been begging is to let him skate - kid loves hockey!

My older DD is almost exactly 2 years older. There are some things I can imagine them doing together and some that I can't. Our daycare has a few add-on programs that preschoolers can do - dance, soccer, basketball, martial arts, music. For those classes all the preschoolers (2.5/3 - 5) do them together. For some of them, they have the older ones practice different skills. For others, they all do the same thing. In the Fall I'll sign DD2 up for dance and they will be in the same class. I've looked into a gymnastics class for them that is technically the same class, but the instructor has the older ones practice skills that the younger ones aren't able to do yet. The activities that I don't think they could do together are more team based activities - like soccer.

We've had DD2 on skates. DD1 was taking an ice skating class and DD2 really wanted to do it, so we let her try. After about 5-6 times, she has finally started marching on her own. Before then she always wanted to do it, but then she would then just stand there. We'll probably try a class next fall.

DD will start a swim "class" this summer at or neighborhood pool, a gymnastics class this fall and I'm looking for a dance class because when the music comes on girlfriend is all over!

I think DS will likely do hockey, soccer and baseball while young and then go with whatever he likes. Soccer would be the best weather - baseball it'll be sooo hot and hockey's sooo cold!
