When I was 16 weeks I got the normal blood work done. My doctor called me two weeks later and and asked me to come in that way so she could get a sonogram, I went in and she told me that the blood work showed that I was at high risk of having a baby with down syndrome(I'm 22 years old & no family history of Down syndrome or other chromosomal problems). She took measurements of the baby and referred me to a specialist. Four days later at the specialist they took a sonogram and said it looks normal as far as down syndrome but that there were cysts on the babies brain(which normally go away by 24 weeks) but if not it could be another condition known as trisomy 18. I am getting a blood test done called maternal 21 that is new and 99% accurate, it will teat for trisomy 13, 18 and 21(down syndrome) I'm just really worried about it, I'm so young and healthy I just don't know how or why I'm having these problems. Has anyone else went through this? I go back in a month for another sonogram and will get the test results in about a week
-found out at the specialist that I'm having a girl:) hoping that she's normal and healthy!
Re: High risk for Down syndrome & cysts on babies brain
I am a bit older than you, but also have no history of anything. I hope that you get good results and that your LO is healthy! Congrats on the baby girl!
I say all this so you know that the blood test you had is a much better indicator of your babies health than if the cysts go away or not. Hope that helps!
