What food are you serving....

At your baby shower? I see lots of girls are starting to discuss this. My mom and sister are hosting a Sunday afternoon shower and want to serve bagels and cold salads. Not sure if I like that. What are you ladies planning? Maybe I'll steal a few ideas ;)

  • My Mom is hosting, my friends helping. I think we're having it at a German Beir Garden. This could still change as it's not booked yet, but bring on the giant soft pretzels!
That is the most unique venue for a shower I have ever heard! Props for creativity!

At my first shower they served chips and dips, cupcakes and small snacks because it was at 2. Where I live people don't like to serve an actual meal so they host showers at odd times of day.

  • My mom and best fried are throwing mine, I would never host my own. So, I will eat what they want! But, on the menu so far (that I know of):

    Deviled Eggs
    Mini Quiches
    Fruit kebabs
Mini donuts, blueberry muffins and cookies (cookies are favors, along with tiny honey jars)
Antipasti station- cheeses, cured meats, olives, French bread

It's a brunch shower, so they are also having a mimosa bar.

  • My shower with DD was at 11 AM and we had an assortment of brunch foods: muffins, a really amazing bread braid with eggs and sausage on the inside, finger sandwiches, fruit, OJ and coffee.
  • We are doing a co-ed brunch at a pub-type place, so fruit, eggs, pancakes, etc. and mimosas and Bloody Mary's.
  • I like food. That's all.

My aunt and cousins hosted my family one. We had chips and dips, a veggie tray, mini chicken squares (folded up to be a finger food vs the traditional ones you eat with a fork and knife), fruit pizza, punch and cake.

My friends are hosting one in a few weeks and I have no idea what is planned.

What is your issue with the food being served at yours?

  • We are doing it at a little Irish pub so they'll be catering the food.  I don't remember what else was on the menu but I specifically requested the Ruben sandwich bites.  I will probably eat the whole tray myself.  It's my party and I'll gorge if I want to.  Delish.

  • my sil is hosting at her house and she is getting various platters from costco. they have so many finger food trays and sandwich platters that are tasty, easy to get and set up.

  • We're also having a co-ed BBQ. Pulled pork, smoked chicken, etc.

  • For DD we had a Co-ed shower at a beachside park. Since I'm in Miami and Cuban, we served a whole roast pig stuffed with rice and beans. Plantain chips on the side. Cookies and cupcakes for dessert. A keg, wine and guamosas (guava juice mimosas). It was all delicious!
  • Wow...I'm officially salivating. I thought the bagels and finger foods would be to casual but you ladies have shown me the light. Mine will be at my parents house. I don't want then to spend a fortune and on Long Island, of you aren't serving food people aren't coming! Lol.
  • @Mia081081 Umm, I need a guamosa right now

DH graduates college on 5\10 so we decided to do a BaByQ the next day at our house that will hit both. That way our family members from Iowa will have enough reason to travel and stay overnight. Seriously, I had to give them more of a reason than the shower. My bestie is planning it, but we're having it at my house so that I won't have to transport gifts and because my parents have never been to my house.

  • Shower #1 is hosted by my aunt.  She is planning a sit-down luncheon with tea sandwiches and, knowing my aunt, Swedish pastries.  She is hosting it at my house, but I am trying to avoid knowing the details because I will feel involved and get tired (my aunt is tiring).

Shower #2 is hosted by DH's boss, so I really have no idea.  I would imagine appetizers and drinks.

Shower #3 is hosted by DH's friend and his wife.  They always serve the same three things at their house, which are lentils, paneer (Indian cheese), and potato.  DH is trying to suggest other things since I really can't eat that right now, but I'm pretty sure they'll stick with that.

@babyglo350 personally, bagels and salad sounds good to me, I think if your mom is hosting and you have food aversions she would accommodate you.

  • My mom is hosting, with the help of my sister and H (he offered to help with the cooking, he's incredible in the kitchen!). They're doing a lot of seafood - lobster salad, clam chowder, shrimp, along with roast beef au jus sandwiches, a salad, some other picky things.

  • @babyglo350 where on long island are you? Me too! I am hosting a sprinkle for my bff and doing Italian but I would totally be fine with a bagel spread for my own (or whatever my hosts want to serve really!)...sounds yummy!

  • My shower and showers in my area are like mini weddings as far as the food goes. They are held in locations that also do weddings and they typically come around and ask you what you want - ck, beef, or fish, with potatoes and a veggie. You also get salad and bread. This is probably one of the many reasons sprinkles aren't common in my area, although I've been to one. They served catered sandwiches, sides, cookies and ice cream, but it was at her mom's home.

  • Im so hungry now...

My family & friends are putting together my shower it will be a fresh lunch croissAnt sandwiches and fresh baguette sandwiches pasta salad fruit salad and a fresh salad...along with teas and lemonades cupcakes cookies and meringues for dessert yummm
  • Meat lasagna, veggie lasagna, chilli, chicken salad sandwiches, turkey stew, strawberries with Nutella, fruit salad in the shape of a stroller, blue punch with rubber sucks in it, cupcakes....that's all I know about. My mom was thinking of doing a small shower but my boyfriend's mom had other plans lol
  • I have no idea what will be served...but my home is being used as the location (I have the "party" house - nice outdoor space) so I felt entitled to make one request. I am setting up a Bloody Mary bar! So excited to start infusing vodkas soon - even if my own Mary's will be virgin.
  • My sister and sister-in-law made the most delicious food for my shower with #1. It was during lunch time so there mini pear and bacon pizzas, little quesadillas, mango and macadamia nut salad, the most beautiful fruit salad I've ever seen, cupcakes and more. I would love to go back to that day and eat! I didn't give any input but they did steal some recipes from my food Pinterest page. :)

I'm in western Long Island bordering queens. You know how much we love our bagels lol.

  • In my mind I'm a celebrity so I was envisioning a grand occasion a la kardashian with hot foods in a big venue. Then I realized how bratty I was being and how sweet and loving my mother and sister are by doing all of this for me. Bagels it is! And I can't wait!!! Anyone doing a signature drink? Mine is a sailboat theme...ideas? The gaumosa thing sounds AMAZING.
  • I think my mom said they were planning to do a few different sandwiches on croissants, fruit salad, cake. Nothing too big. My cousin recently had a shower where they had all different soups and garnishes, fresh bread, etc. It was really yummy!

  • My mom is hosting mine at a local restaurant that has a banquet room. She is having them serve a buffet of lemon pepper chicken, roast beef, baked ziti, mashed potatoes, salad, rolls, fruit and cheese trays. And for dessert she ordered gourmet cupcakes instead of one big cake.

I think whatever my mom was serving I'd be happy with cuz I'm just grateful that she's taking the time to throw me a shower!!! I'm her only daughter so she's going all out for my shower. I'm pretty easy going so whatever she decides to do I'll be happy with!!!
  • I'm throwing a shower for my SIL, it's going to be coed with everyone invited (his family, ours and their friends). I had no idea it was going to be this big and unfortunately, my DH and I don't have the budget to throw a big fancy shower (I don't think our family will be contributing monetary wise because of the controversial circumstances surrounding the baby) So, we'll probably just grill; hot dogs and hamburgers. I'm looking for a park to have it at, so I think it'll be appropriate. I'm going to try to make some nice appetizers that I found : double tomato bruschetta, fruit salad with cinnamon chips, devils eggs and a caprese appetizer.
  • I love my aunt. She gives Martha Stewart a run for her money. My whole family can cook. Not me though.

We are having chicken salad sandwiches with Zupa soup ( Olive Garden kind) I'm sure fruit and veggies. All my fav salads they make.

Plus my mom is super crazy about all this and the lady that did my wedding cake (now I'm divorced but my cake was the bomb) is going to make me a big ass cake. I just want cake.

I'm so hungry for cake now. Damn it.

They know me and the foods I like so as long as we have CARBS. this mama will be happy.
  • Mine will be at lunchtime, and the venue offers a menu of hot sandwiches or wraps to choose from, with a choice of a side, as well as soup. I'm a casual person, as are most of my family and friends, so I think this will work out well.
  • Leaning towards a burrito bar!! Of course, the lovely ladies planning my shower have taken my #1 pregnancy craving into account! Love them :)

  • For my hometown baby shower my mom and MIL are planning a brunch theme, egg bake, french toast casserole, fruit salad, muffins, mimosas for all except for me :(  (actually the mimosas were my idea, it just isn't brunch if there arent mimosas, even if I can't partake)

  • I'm having a tea party themed sprinkle. I plan to serve little finger sandwiches and cookies. I will probably also have a fruit salad (fruit has really been my biggest craving this pregnancy) and we will have a selection of teas. I'm hosting my friends baby shower and she wants picnic foods hamburger, hot dog , pasta salad....etc

  • Is a sip and see done in place of a shower? Is it for the 2nd child? Never heard of it but sounds like a good idea.
  • My mom is having it at an Italian restaurant. I think the menu is stuffed shells. lasagna, anti pasto salad, salad and eggplant parm.

Yes I'm doing it in place of a shower. Actually I'm not putting anything on the invite as far as a registry goes. If they want to bring a gift fine, if not that's cool, too. This is for my 2nd child. Since she and my DS will be fairly close in age (about 3 years) I figured I didn't need another shower since I have all the big stuff already. I'm sure people will bring me clothes and other girly things they know I don't already have. I'm not picky. I just want everyone to get together and have a good ol' time.
