What to wear home...

I might suggest taking a couple different sized things. I originally planned on DS wearing an appliquéd/personalized onesie with these blue jeans. But as you can see, he was so small that his jeans were almost as long as him. He ended up wearing an outfit that someone brought to us while in the hospital. Fortunately, my mother was awesome and washed several smaller things for me overnight. She even went to Walmart at 2am to buy a couple of preemie sleepers and then washed them for us after we realized how small he was. If you have someone to wash for you, you could always buy a couple different sized outfits.

This time around, my mom is smocking a dress for DD. Since we had the sizing issues with DS, she plans to use a ribbon tie in the back to make it adjustable. The dress should be a little more forgiving.

WE brought DD home in a Carter's two piece outfit (newborn) and I bought the same type of deal this time around. It's a onesie that says "little sister" and then the coordinating pants.

With DD we were team Green, so I bought one boy and girl and washed them both. Then I save the boy outfit til the next friend had a boy.

I like this idea, but there is no guarantee that my SO will be able to get out to pick up an outfit. He's on shiftwork and he has to pick his vacation in advance, so we can't predict for delivery. He'll most likely have to take a sick day to be with me to deliver, but I have no guarantee of him being able to get any further time than that right away. I'd love to let him do that, it's just dicey.

Thanks, ladies, for the feedback on sizing. I was tossing about it since we're not finding out the sex until delivery so I had visions of a ridiculous number of outfits to cover both sexes and a range of sizes. Still not sure yet how we'll handle this but you've given me some ideas to think about!

DS went home in a sleeper, but it was November, cold and we were discharged in the evening, so "dressing" him at 6pm seemed really silly. This time around, I'm not entirely sure. If we're discharged in the AM, I might be more inclined to dress her in something cute. I'll probably bring one sleeper and one "real" outfit and see what seems best.

All the babies are so cute!! I'll probably just pick a cute sleeper or onesie to bring him home in.

Speaking of what the mamas wear home, has anyone who has gotten a C Section used those compression things afterward and liked them? I was looking into them in case I had a C.

I had a c/s and got a compression band after leaving the hospital (my c/s was unplanned). I have heard of some hospitals giving them to c/s mommas but I wouldn't rely on that.

My going home outfit consisted of yoga pants, a sweatshirt, and flipflops. I highly suggest bringing very roomy shoes/sandals with you to wear home. My feet were so swollen (from all the c/s fluids they pumped into me) that my flip flops barely got on my feet, it was fall and my feet were soooo cold but socks were not happening! For the first 2 weeks or so I had to take the laces out of a pair of shoes so that I could get my feet into them.

Everything I registered for was 3 mo+ (minus basic onesies and a few sleepers). Ive purchased about five newborn outfits that I spent next to nothing on. I plan on returning any newborn sized stuff people buy for me. Besides it will be the dead of summer and im sure we'll be living in onesies!

@zarkarella has inspired me to make my own appliques with a fat quarter of coordinating fabrics.. a four letter name should be easy to do and sew onto a onesie, and then find coordinating pants

This one will be going home in a sleeper just like DS. I don't find any need whatsoever for having a cute-sy outfit for our 5 minute trip to the house.

Seriously, this. Sweats or yoga pants. I wore yoga pants and a nursing cami home with DS.

Wish I could do my own appliques. I would save a ton of money! But... then I would have to spend the money on the machine...
