Re: UO Thursday

  • and again... the biggest issue I have is the lack of insurance effecting who they blame. Maybe that isn't the case in all states but it is here and I hate it.

    I don't think car insurance should be mandatory. I hate that I have to pay every month even though I've never been in a wreck. I get that it covers others if you're at fault but I hate that not having insurance makes you at fault automatically.

    That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

    @rooftop (wasn't sure if you'd go back and look. :) )

    Car insurance isn't mandatory in New Hampshire, HOWEVER... if you get in an accident, and don't have insurance, the state suspends your license and takes away the vehicle registration until you can prove that you can pay for damages. Looking around online they say you have to prove you can pay up to $50,000 (if two or more people are injured) or up to $25,000 for property damage.

    I'd rather pay for insurance ANYDAY. We hit a deer this past winter and it messed up our front end. Our insurance paid for everything except a $50 deductible and put us in a brand new car for almost a month. WELL worth it!

    I'd be fine with that system. I hardly ever drive and when I do it's usually not around other people. If I were to ever get in an accident it would probably be by myself or the other persons fault. Honestly if I just put money aside in a "just in case"  account  it would cost me less than what I piddle away paying the insurance to make excuses as to why a crash isn't covered if I ever did get into one.

    It must be nice to be so gosh darn perfect that you can predict if you were in an accident that it wouldn't be your fault and nobody would be hurt.

    Fuck man...can you tell me what's going to happen to me next week?

    Isn't it the police officer's duty to determine that though? Unless you don't call it in, I guess. I haven't been in any accidents other than the deer, so I'm not sure. Although I recently read an article how Las Vegas is getting rid of cops going to accident calls. They said they spend too much time on them and that people should be able to handle them themselves.

    Either way... I pay $88/month for two vehicles & a motorcycle (Nissan Xterra, Chevy Aveo, Harley Fatboy) and have both comprehensive and collision. I feel like it's BY FAR worth it for us. :)

    eta: @rooftop I figured I'd tag you since you posted that clicky poll! It drives me nuts I don't get notified if someone quotes me.

    I like Ichiban noodles raw, sprinkled with the seasoning. I don't prefer it to the cooked though, but I'll still eat the shit out of it

    TrueBeliever925 if both parties in a crash are insured than the officers figure out fault BUT if one party doesn't have insurance then it is automatically that person's fault even if they are in the right. THAT is what I have an issue with.

    Ahhh gotchya! It should still be fault based on officer's judgement.

    STOP THE PRESSES!!! How the hell do you only pay $88 a month? I pay $200 month for 2 vehicles. Freaking sucks!

    Yeah.. I'm not sure either. I paid $180 for just the two vehicles on Progressive... I switched to Geico and it's $88.58 a month. Both DH and I haven't had tickets in years and years, not sure if that contributes to it. But I have even better deductibles than Progressive too. $50 bucks for $3,000+ worth of damage this past winter. And our rate hasn't gone up at all. I mean our vehicles aren't new so that could be it too. A 2001 and 2004. I think the bike is 2002?

    I need to look into Progressive then. Our vehicles are a 2002 and 2007, both of us had no accidents or tickets before my accident last month. That's crazy how much different the price is, plus your deductible is 10% of mine. I don't know how old you are, but maybe it's because I'm 25 (I know rates are higher the younger you are). I want to shop around for better rates now!
