Well I have 3 kids and it wasn't until this last baby that a hair got wrapped around anything tightly to the point of me kind of panicking. I was home alone and I dealt with it. The time it would take me to even get ready to leave the house and make it to the pedi's office was in my mind to much time to "waste" What I did was let her nurse for a few minutes until she was calm and while she was nursing I used my other hand and removed the hair. It was a few minute job and it was super tight but I was able to do it alone. I see no reason why you couldn't figure out something to do. You could have fed your LO a bottle and rocked him/her to sleep and once asleep and not moving you could have removed it. That still would have taken less time then packing up and going to the pedi's office in my opinion.  I pray you never have a REAL emergency because you have to be able to handle stuff as a parent and sometimes ALONE!!!! Sorry to sound rude but this might be the dumbest thing I have read in quite awhile.

Before you say anything I did read where your baby was screaming/whaling and so was mine. Its all about calming them down.
I guess it was bad then I was nursing her the entire time the pedi was removing it and she still kicked and screamed the entire time. So I highly doubt that would gave worked at home for me alone.

But good for you for getting it off on your own. There are a lot of first time mothers who don't appreciate condescending tones, I'm sure you didnt.
Wait...I thought you had 2 toddlers? I also never heard of this until you asked your question so I googled it and the images look awful. So I hope your LO is ok.

Violetta, you came in here 'new' yesterday guns blazing telling everyone you disliked half the board. Now you want to ask medical questions and want sympathy from these ladies. Makes no sense. If you want sympathy and support then I suggest you post a pic of yourself and your LO or something to show everyone you aren't an AE. Until then why come here for sympathy and support when you dislike most the regs? So my suggestion to post a pic of yourself and your cute LO so then maybe these women will grow to trust you. Just my advice..

You're a trusted reg..totes different. It was just a suggestion. I can't think of any other way for her to be able to ask questions or get support from these ladies after saying she disliked most of them. I'm just trying to helpful in case she posts in the future, she'll probably get similar reactions.

You guys do realize not all hair tourniquets are the same right? What you may have seen or experienced is not exactly what someone else experiences. Some are tighter and some cause greater swelling than others. Some are a quick fix at home, some have to be treated at the pedi. I don't really get what is wrong with some of you. Go eat a sandwich or something.

I'm definitely part of the problem today. I'm bored. And hungry.

  • You can all flame away but if my LO was in extreme pain and was in jeopardy of doing permanent damage (and of course I tried everything else) I would use Nair. It's not ideal but in an emergency I think the pros out way the cons.

I've never used it do I don't know if I'm sensitive to it or not. I'm just thinking if my LO is crying in pain and nothing else was working I would try it. I'm just trying to be honest.
I try to keep my LO away from chemicals... I buy organic and natural products but if I was desperate I would probably use it. Especially before taking the time to pack him up and head to the pedi. I would want to end his pain ASAP. Of course if he's not in any pain I would find another solution.

But when all is said and done I guess it doesn't really matter since there is no Nair in the house.

Edited: I'm not imagining an open wound. I was just imagining cutting off the circulation kind of thing. I would probably reconsider if the skin was broken.
  • Eh its a real thing, OP your attiude yesterday will not make it easy for people to warm up too you. I suggest making anther screen name waiting the three days to post and look through the threads you will see bullshit here is not tolerated very well. While this is a free public forum and you can post whatever the hell you want keep in mind that how people react to your post are totally up to hoow you react to theirs.

  • Real or not, I still find this post to be MUD.

A July 11 baby almost lost a toe (or finger?) to a hair being wrapped around overnight. It was definitely an emergency situation. When it gets tight (and it can happen fast) it's sunk into the flesh so you can't use scissors or tweezers, so those of you suggesting those things clearly have no idea what the actual situation is that she's talking about.  I've heard the Nair thing, too - I agree I'd use it in an emergency, but I'd probably first go to Urgent Care or the pedi to be taken care of if it was that bad. I check Em's fingers and toes obsessively since she loves to grab my hair.

I find Violett/Jaxx/SG/whoever she is to be just as annoying as the rest of you and am irritated at the way she came onto the board, but this is a real thing that many of the initial posters just dismissed with a flip of the hair.  I think the same thing with ChiAmy posts actual questions and gets dismissed just because it's her. I get the ongoing irritation, but valid questions with good answers helps the WHOLE board since someone else might have the same issue going on.

I definitely dismissed it with a flip of the hair. I still sorta kinda think it's MUD since she just bounced on the scene out of nowhere. And I'd never put Nair on my infants skin. It burns my own skin never mind this delicate baby skin.

I apologize for being a total bitch. But I can't take anything seriously from people like this.

If OP wouldn't have come at everyone "sideways" then I would have had no problem answering her questions in a serious manner. But she decided to be disrespectful to people so I didn't take her post seriously. I'm not looking for drama but it does seem like OP is.

I don't know if OP is a lurker turned poster or an AE of another bumpie, although I'm inclined to think the latter since she knows so much about the board. She came in guns blazing and definitely got off on the wrong foot. I agree she was rude and looking for trouble but c'mon she wasn't THAT bad and she didn't escalate anything further today. More so than other boards I've been on, this one tends to form opinions of people quickly and doesn't give second chances. I think that is pretty crappy especially when they post threads like this one.

Hey, I gave two forserious answers!
Also I like sandwiches better than snickers. ;)

I agree that as a board opinions tend to form very quickly and usually they're not great...but seriously, it's been less than 24hrs since she told me that she wouldn't smile if she were my kid either and jumped on Cash and Heaven too. WTF? I didn't respond to this thread in anyway except to say what did she expect?

@ColeRose, are BOAB threads not allowed anymore?
  • I used nair once,it looked like I had a chemical burn and to top it off I had used it because I wanted to look hot for a date that next day. I looked crazy couldn't imagine using it on my baby.

  • Two cents:
I had no idea this was a thing and now I will be inspecting LO's fingers and toes from now on. She constantly rips my hair out and since I have no more pregnancy hormones my hair has been falling out like crazy.

Way to make me nervous, guys.

And FWIW, if a stranger walked up to a friend and said something completely out of line, then walked away all casual, and then came back to hang out, you would give them shit too. Or at least I hope you would. So OP, I normally don't get involved on board drama, but what was said to KateMW the other day... Yea, don't expect warm fuzzies. But your post did make me aware of this, so I guess thanks.

And I am using "you" in general terms.
  • This happened to my oldest LO but I was able to use the scissors to cut it off. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be using nair on the baby though, they have such sensitive skin. If I wasn't able to cut it off myself, I might have taken her to the pedi too. That shit can cause infection or amputation in worse cases.

Sorry your baby was in pain, that's never easy to experience!
