I don't think it's wrong for a parent to be nervous or worried to leave their child with the other parent for an extended period of time e.g. a few days or longer, especially if they are traveling with them. I don't think it means they think that parent is reckless or incompetent. Brought to you by a post on another board where someone said they don't see the issue.
I worry in a vague kind of way, not in a "will he be able to do it" kind of way. That said, if you can't trust your partner to care for his child without you (general you) hovering, that's a big issue.

I've always fully admitted I have issues ;)

  • Just food for thought: I review about 150-200 resumes a week. Rarely are they one page.  It would be nice but it almost never happens.
Does your company prescreen resumes?  Like there is a program that runs through them looking for certain keywords or phrases prior to you looking at them?  My dad was harping about this the other day.  That I need to change my resume for EVERY job I apply for to make sure that I include words and phrases from the job description.  Which I get to a point, but he was saying do it to just get my resume seen.  I think he is paranoid about life.
No. We literally have to read every single fracking one that comes through. Each resume gets a max of 30-60 seconds of time.

You should tailor your resume to the job you are applying for. You don't need to change the whole thing, just make sure you highlight things that are relevant.

Bolded: this may be true with some organizations. We are in the dark ages over here so we have to read them all.

Do you think the majority of them need to be more than one page? I'm genuinely curious because I've read things that say generally people reviewing resumes don't even get to the second page a lot of the time.
Probably not but I don't usually get frustrated if they are two pages. That has become the norm to me.  I can usually tell by going throught the first page if someone is qualified. Unless they put their education info at the end.

Now if you are applying to be a CMA and send me a 5 page resume...no. Just no.
  • I don't like helicopter parenting. There is one kid at Little Gym with L every weekend where both parents go and will not be within 1 foot of their kid at any gicen point. Dude, she is not even off the ground and everything around her is padded. Give her a little freedom to explore and fall. It will make her stronger in the end.

FFTC? I am the parent that sits back while L is scaling a mountain of blocks saying 'she will be fine if she falls' while getting a side eye from the same helicopter parents.

Is there a happy medium to this?  I think DH sits back and tries to parent from the Lay-Z-Boy and it drives me nuts.  I don't have to know where she is every second, but I like to keep an eye on her.  I try really hard not to helicopter, but I know I do sometimes.

I need to find a baby gym for her.  I think she would LOVE it!  Does L like the baby gym?

  • I laugh at parents who have one child and don't let him/her play with certain toys that are too boyish or girlish. I always think to myself that it's going to be hilarious if they end up having a child of the opposite sex and try their damnedest to keep the toys separated so the boy doesn't play with dolls and the girl doesn't play with trucks.

Brought to you by my childhood where my brother loved playing with my Barbie camper. He is straight by the way. Phew! What a miracle.
Like my DS who loves princesses and ponies, while DD loves trucks?

  • It really grinds my gears when DH gets praise for staying home with the girls on his days off while I work. He's a dad, not a babysitter.

Dads shouldn't be on some pedestal for acting like dads.

AMEN! I say this all the time. You're not "watching" your kids. You're parenting them.

  • I didn't trust DH at all to take care of Lilly the first time I left her overnight. In retrospect it was ridiculous but I also had untreated anxiety & panic disorders... so I give myself a pass for being a bitch about it.

UO: Staples are seriously the worst. They suck.

Stop f#%^ing stapling your resume together.
Make it one page, and a staple isn't needed! (I had a convo this morning with a colleague who received a 14-page CV from someone. WTH)

  • I've left DS with DH a few times and while I know he's perfectly capable, he's also less used to it than I am since I handle the majority of our childcare (I SAH part-time).
I'm not concerned enough not to do it but I worry that they're not having a good time.

Of course! I am close to L the first time she tries new things in case she asks for my help, but when it comes to the Gym, she is safe and I am more than confident in her climbing skills. The kid could probably scale a mountain at this point.

I don't sit on my ass to watch my kid, I always (well almost always, kids are quick!) know where my kid is and what she is getting into, but I give her a lot of freedom to roam (in safe environments).

L loves the Little Gym more than anything else we do. On Saturdays when she is being a crab, I tell her she needs to stop crying so we can go see her friends at Little Gym and she instantly changes to an excited little monster. When we park in front of the building she starts squeeling in excitment.

ETA - removed the second set of quotes - TB is being an ass for me today.

Gah! I am the worst at this. I know how to say something. I do it correctly all the time and I will randomly come out with some weird ass version and not know where it came from.

Last summer ordering a bagel I asked for an Asiago bagel with a soft g and eo at the end. It was so random the dude started laughing at me and never let me live it down. The best part of changing clients over the fall was that I don't have to see the bagel guy anymore. ha

  • I don't like most chain Mexican restaurants. A Moe's just opened up near work and it is kind of bland. I make better food at home.

Agreed, because I really love GOOD Mexican food. But I do like Chipotle.

I CANNOT for the life of me pronounce sausage McMuffin with egg. I can say all the words individually, but not together.

Also, there are only toys. Not boy toys or girl toys. Just toys. Unless you operate the toy with your genitals, at which point the toy is not for children.
Agreed. And I hate that there are normal coloured toys and then pink toys. Like Mega Blocks. There are the yellow, blue, red blocks and then the bag with only pink, purple and green! Because clearly we need a girl option for EVERY toy. Fawk.
I don't mind having the different color blocks. I just mind that they put them on opposites of the toy aisles. Put them next to each other on the same aisle, the block and building aisle.

I'm not nervous for their safety but more nervous for myself because I know I will have to resleep train them when I get home. DH tends to have sleeping parties all together while I'm gone then they don't want to sleep in their own beds when I get home.

    Not even baby feet?!

Also, I bought Sawyer the pink Mega Bloks. They are adorable. I love to buy pink toys. She wears Batman shirts from the Boys section, but I like to make her super girly too. Beckett plays with Barbies, pink blocks and has his own doll. I have no concerns that this will turn him gay.

On the potty training topic, there is a point that is "too old" to introduce potty training. If you are waiting for your child to show you signs and he/she is nearing 4, then is the time to push it. (Obviously if there are no health aspects in play).
Not really. Only you know your child and when they are ready. Indigo has just been completely potty trained and he will be 4 in May. I held off because advice I was given by his pedi.
DD1 is 4.5 years old and is completely day trained but not night-trained. She did amazingly for like 2 weeks, and then started peeing the bed nightly.

::open to suggestions on night training....::

  • I am so tired of my sister's back ended comments on my parenting. I'm sure it's payback for my advice over the years while not being a mom. I am just done talking to her about the baby.

I hate pms. I'm over pms as well.

This isn't a UO but I am leaving it here.

Especially younger kids. My cousins are terrible. If I send you a package, I want you to at least acknowledge that you received it.

Agreed. And I didn't even just mean for gifts. Just in GENERAL. If someone says something nice, goes out of their way for you, I don't know. Show your gratitude. Tell people how important and appreciated they are.

  • FFTC/UO? L has been miserable with what I thought was just teething, until DH & I got sore throats and drainage. By the time I figured it out, L had been to DC twice. This morning, 1 of the moms was giving instructions on eye drops for her son.

Pretty sure L passed on whatever it is she had and I only feel a little bad. I might feel worse if she weren't home because everyone else was sick at least once a month, I figure it is her turn to pass something along. moty.
